‘Honestly, if this is the level of hatred that black people feel towards white people, I'm fucking glad they'll have a separate topic to air their hatred. I don't want to be reading it.’

I thought your DH was black?

You couldn't make it up🤣

gardenclubgnome · 16/09/2020 19:24

@DoubleDolphin lord alive

Try these books-
Why i am no longer talking to white people about race
Akala
How to argue with a racist.

This is not about exclusion. This is about inclusion of something maybe you don't understand.
I didn't understand it until this year when the world let me express it due to unfortunate visibility of George Floyd murder (That is literally what it took) and I am a woman of colour.

So I get that you may not get it.
But beauty is you don't have to get it.
Just be polite enough not to start bollocks about it.
I need that space well because I am so tired of having to be interrupted by views such as yours and having to spend my entire life up until this year. PRETENDING that it does nto mater.
Well it bloody well does.

In summary you don't understand because you have never had to
( think about that- just for a second) I didn't understand because I live in a society that is full of people like you that didn't think it was polite for me to express myself- I spent my life fitting into white spaces just to fit in. I never have fitted in.

I have never known a white person having had the issue of being treated differently based on (for example) the perception of their skin colour when they walk in a room, a pub a supermarket, a hairdresser, a job interview...( YES IN 2020) Think about that.

CaraDuneRedux · 16/09/2020 19:24

Congrats to PatricksRum for getting this off the ground. Flowers (Need a celebratory fireworks emoji - you can have a Daffodil which looks a bit like a sparkler and a Glitterball as the nearest approximations MN offers).

(Baffled and saddened by the number of people saying horrible things - I thought the feminist section attracted some trolling, but the out-and-out racism some people have brought to bear on this topic is in a whole different league. Sad)

DolphinsAndNemesis · 16/09/2020 19:24

I swear to God, if I read one more post making the strikingly original Hmm point "if you had a board just for white people, there would be outrage," I think my head might explode. Are some people really so ignorant about racism and so lacking in imagination? Do they honestly believe that every experience is equivalent to every other experience?

Racism on MN isn't a dirty little secret. It's loud and proud right here on this thread. I really hope that the racists stay away from the new board. Though I suppose that may be too much to hope for.

PurpleHoodie · 16/09/2020 19:24

And once again. It is NOT a place where you have to be Black to post/contribute.

If you have something to contribute concerning a recipe, or a Black or mixed-raced childs hair, crack on.

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 19:25

Plus it excludes (specifically) white people

No it doesn't.

You will be ignored for daring to question her!

Glad to hear the board was set up!

Sanitisethat

Who set the rules and who gets to decide if it's a relevant comment?

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 19:29

Really? Have you heard of Irish Travellers?

OnceUponAThimble · 16/09/2020 19:30

My DH is not full of hate (hence his marriage to me). He is second generation however, so perhaps more 'white' than you'd like him to be. I never hear anything like the hatred, fear and general distrust I've seen on this thread coming from him. Most of his colleagues and friends are white. Quite the mixture. He doesn't feel the need to tell me that I wouldn't understand him. We talk and we learn from each other.

Hope that answers the question the dog with a bone keeps asking me?

Serin · 16/09/2020 19:31

Congratulations to you all.
Long overdue.
Sending over Gin for your housewarming.

Irish travellers are white so they're not treated differently based on the colour of their skin.
StormzyInaDCup · 16/09/2020 19:32

@EDSGFC very good point.

Are Irish Travellers treated differently by perception of their skin colour?
TheClawww · 16/09/2020 19:33

Does having a separate forum not just further drive a wedge between people though? Very "us" and "them"

Yes white people can post on the board. I’ve just read the T&Cs, people of other races aren’t barred. Repeating a lie (i.e white people are barred) to confuse people and stir trouble is what racists do. If you have a mixed raced child and want to know what products are best, nobody is going to chase you away.

I’ve reviewed the threads and it’s a lot less hostile and racist (in fact it’s not at all, it’s very welcoming and friendly) than this thread.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 19:33

Why are you so afraid to acknowledge me?

So your DH is more 'white and therefore not full of hate? Do you even hear yourself?

Sanitisethat · 16/09/2020 19:33

@EDSGFC I don’t think anyone is setting hard and fast rules - posters are just discussing what they want from it. People on this thread are talking about white people being ‘banned’ and mixed race people not being welcome and white people being excluded etc. I’m just pointing out there’s no evidence of that whatsoever on the topic itself.

There is a thread started by a mixed race poster with plenty of replies, and the thread where posters are discussing the rules they want for the topic shows that white people are welcome if they have things to contribute. I cannot fathom where this idea has come from that it’s some madly hostile space where posters express their hatred of white people and want to drive them out.

I would honestly be hard pressed to imagine what a white person could actually contribute to any of the threads currently running. Perhaps if they were a hairdresser with experience doing black people’s hair they could contribute to the threads about kids’ hair, and I’m sure that would be welcome. Otherwise, it’s hard to see what we would even have to say? Just like I have no idea what I could usefully contribute to craicnet because I’m not Irish.

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 19:33

Irish travellers are white so they're not treated differently based on the colour of their skin.

Are you telling me that if travellers walked into any of the establishments listed that they wouldn't be instantly recognised as travellers and then treated differently?

OnceUponAThimble · 16/09/2020 19:33

Irish travellers are white so they're not treated differently based on the colour of their skin.
Well, if you will insist on segregating yourself.............

MeridaTheBold · 16/09/2020 19:34

I've been here a long, long time. I've never seen so many posters demanding to know people's race and showing a complete lack of understanding as to why they might not want to share that information and why trying to normalise that line of questioning isn't a positive development.
The section is a good idea. The race baiting on these threads isn't.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 19:34

Not based on the colour of their skin, which was your assertion.
Sanitisethat · 16/09/2020 19:35

@OnceUponAThimble are you genuinely suggesting that the reason your husband is less hostile than the other black people you’ve complained about on this thread is because he is ‘more white’?

Have you expressed that view to him? What does he think about it?
