Thanks to the fab PatricksRum for fighting against racism we've got our own board here

Look for black mumsnetters 👍🏿

OP posts:

It is NOT a sub-section where ONLY Black people can post.

If you are white or brown and have something to contribute to the subjects of curry and children's hair types (two current threads) go knock yourself out.

If not, go play in Camping. Or The Litter tray.

Sanitisethat · 16/09/2020 19:13

Honestly, if this is the level of hatred that black people feel towards white people, I'm fucking glad they'll have a separate topic to air their hatred. I don't want to be reading it.

This is hilarious. Have you actually looked at the topic? I just had a quick stroll through and there are a couple of chatty threads asking questions about kids’ hair and one talking about curried goat recipes. It’s hardly a seething hotbed of racial loathing (unlike this thread, ironically).

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 19:13

How is that different from the cafes that were around in the 60s that didn't allow black people in?

That was enforced segregation by white people for negative reasons.
This is black people wanting a voice too, with their own space, just like Scotsnet, LGBT boards etc, for positive reasons

YouJustDoYou · 16/09/2020 19:13

But even their cat thinks they are dicks

Nice way of underhandedly calling white people dicks. Nice move

Nah, just the white people who have no clue of their passive racism, bless them.

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 16/09/2020 19:14

Honestly it’s illuminating, I genuinely hadn’t thought about it as racially segregating. As I said before, there’s plenty I’m not going to understand because it’s not my direct experience and this is definitely one.

I do think though that it’s not really white people’s business or decision either way, but also to PP, both sides could never “win” and if some posters want/need the space and others do how do you decide whose need is greatest?

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 19:15
@Havaiana I'm reading on my phone and unfortunately I didn't see your comment. I've been quite vocal from what I can see, so not sure why you think I'm hiding.

You seem to enjoy picking people out to target. Maybe people are just ignoring you because you're rude.

You're singling out one mn because they write American? Why? That's my point.
@StormzyInaDCup you said I was 'nasty' because I pointed out that the post you quoted was someone who objected to BMN. I asked you what was nasty about my post and you found that rude. Why? Weren't you the one picking on me? Why is me standing up for myself rude and nasty?

And OnceuponaThimble hasn't written American in any of her other posts and as she won't answer we can assume she isn't American. If you can't see what's wrong with her posts then it just proves why BMN is needed.

midgebabe · 16/09/2020 19:15

Yeasure it's racist in the same way that women's sport is sexist

...it's recognising difference not discrimination and mistreatment

Whilst some did apparently suggest that the forum was for solely black people ( I never saw that but so many people have said it without denial so ) , they also took input from white people, have made no effort to actually exclude white people, they just want to be able to discuss the issues not cope with a swathe of racist, derailing or just plain stupid posts

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 19:15

listening and allowing people space doesn’t diminish your whiteness.

Can you explain this whiteness? What is it that all white people have in common? You do realise that white people have a variety of cultures, ethnicities etc right?

Sanitisethat · 16/09/2020 19:15

I didn’t see lots of black posters advocating it, About as many as I’ve seen opposing it. There were far more white people tripping over each other to support it.

But there are lots of black posters on the topic right now, expressing positive views on the fact that it exists.

Why is it better for it not to exist at all for those who want it than for you to just ignore it if you don’t?

EarthlyTent · 16/09/2020 19:15

Having somewhere only black people should use simply because their black

So having somewhere only women should use simple because their (sic) women is totally sexist, right?

OnceUponAThimble · 16/09/2020 19:15

Some of us Quaagars have a vested interest in all things race. Ergo, we are vocal about it. In my case, I do not want my children to go on ANY chat forum and discover that there is a Blacks Only 'safe' space for them. That's my only objection. If it was titled differently, fine, but it's not. Plus it excludes (specifically) white people. I am white.

As to the poster who keeps telling me I'm ignoring her - I'm ignoring you because there's nothing to reply to.

@unmarkedbythat

Did people complain that Scotsnet or Craicnet unfairly excluded English MNers? Does having a board for dog lovers harm those who prefer to keep ferrets as pets? We have one for Style & Beauty, does that constitute some sort of terrible exclusion of people who wish to be neither beautiful nor stylish? Are SEN focussed boards a form of apartheid punishing those who do not have children with SEN? How can we have a FWR board and not one for the men? Etc etc etc.

If a space on MN for black women will not add to your life, no one is going to force you to use it.

Did they officially 'exclude' non-English/Irish/Welsh mnetters?

Or mnetters who didn't own a dog from visiting or commenting on the dog lovers board?

Its the first time I have heard of certain categories of mnetters being excluded from mn boards and it doesn't sit well with me, either, because all the boards should be inclusive to every mnetter.

YouJustDoYou · 16/09/2020 19:18

How is that different from the cafes that were around in the 60s that didn't allow black people in?

Funny how white people are crowing about this in regards to segregation, but have no objections to a separate sections for differently abled people, or LGBT - almost as if they can't fathom that black people might, just might (and i know this may come as a massive shock), similarly to those groups, have their own particular experiences and issues that go along with being a minority within a society that treats them differently 😮 Shocking to find this out, I know! (#sarcasm).

AfolMummy · 16/09/2020 19:18

BadBanana you can still do all those things, just like some parents of SEN post on regular boards. 99% of what I post on MN has nothing to do with my background, but it may be that 1% of the time you need some advice on something that people of the same background would know and instead of sifting through 100 unhelpful comments, you have a place where you can instantly get the advice you need. FWIW if there was an Asian/Indian board I would only visit it the 1% of the time but others may want to visit it more. It's an option not an order.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 19:18

Still not going answer why you parodied an American accent then. Why so afraid?

Its NOT 'Blacks Only" though is it?

Anyone can contribute.

DeeCeeCherry · 16/09/2020 19:19

Great, it's about time. I've no doubt racists will land there too - and I truly hope the board won't be taken up with long threads giving them attention that they do not deserve at all.

I had a peek earlier and saw posts about curry goat recipes, and hair. I feel more encouraged to visit MN now. I haven't as much, as the 'Is this racist' posts dressed up in 100 different sly ways to pretend the premise wasn't racist, were boringly regular.

Black people - African/African Diaspora - are the ones suffering racist attacks and murder, constant microaggressions, discrimination. We don't owe you explanation or justification just because you choose not to see racism as the civil and human rights issue that it is. You aren't forced to visit the new section.

If any other non-Black poster wants a separate board then why waste time moaning? - Go and put the work in, just as PatricksRum did. & Well done to her.

MiddlesexGirl · 16/09/2020 19:20

Asia is massive and calling us asians just encourages the homogenising of us into one 'other'.

In case it hasn't already been said, black is also pretty massive too.

BritWifeinUSA · 16/09/2020 19:20

Would it be available to white parents who have black children?

Sanitisethat · 16/09/2020 19:20

Its the first time I have heard of certain categories of mnetters being excluded from mn boards and it doesn't sit well with me, either, because all the boards should be inclusive to every mnetter.

Nobody is being excluded. If you actually look at the topic you will see a discussion on what the rules should be. A poster who isn’t black asks if they will be able to post and is told they are welcome to if they have a relevant comment to make. It’s literally the same as any other board - there is no difference except in the minds of some posters who are determined to single this one out as though it is unique.

YouJustDoYou · 16/09/2020 19:21

This. We hate it.
