Dividing people up into segregated groups isn't reflecting diversity.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 17:39

It's great that we have it but can't believe it took 20 years!!

TwilightSkies · 16/09/2020 17:39

Can the racist white people moaning on this thread not see how ENTITLED they are? No self-awareness at all!

If a there is a section being set up specifically for black people, why can’t you just scroll on by? Since that thread won’t affect your life in any way?
Why won’t you let black people have just ONE tiny section in this forum without fucking bitching that it isn’t centred around you?
It’s because you feel ENTITLED to encroach upon their space....why is that??

OnceUponAThimble · 16/09/2020 17:40

Sanitise - totally inequitable situations.

Tellmetruth4 · 16/09/2020 17:40

‘I didn’t think you’d actually get it, so we’ll done! I’ll never use it, don’t see why I would segregate myself like that.

Hope you don’t get the tunbleweed though, I imagine most might feel the same.’

I’ve just realised what this reminds me of. It’s like a bad breakup where Partner A has taken Partner B for granted or treated them poorly and Partner B finally has enough and says ‘I’m off’ and Partner A throws a massive strop ‘how dare you leave me, you’ll be nothing without me!!!!!’

Marmite27 · 16/09/2020 17:41

Good work! 👍

duffeldaisy · 16/09/2020 17:41

Great! I'm glad everyone who's black has a place they can chat about everything without the kind of derailing and whataboutery in this thread.
There are separate places for people who have all sorts of experiences of life to talk about - pregnancy, starting school, etc. and I bet they don't get comments saying "Why are you all excluding me here? Sure, I have nothing to add to the conversation because I'm not experiencing anything like it, but still..."

All this is exactly the same as men saying MN is sexist...

Just saying Grin

EarthlyTent · 16/09/2020 17:43

And you with a name like that. For shame

Oh but I wouldn't segregate myself like that! I camp inside hotel rooms to make sure I am fully integrated.

Sanitisethat · 16/09/2020 17:44

Dividing people up into segregated groups isn't reflecting diversity.

Get. A. Grip.

Nobody is being divided up or segregated. It’s embarrassing how many white people are desperate to co-opt the trauma of people who were actually subjected to this treatment as their own.

Any person on mumsnet can still post on any thread. Nobody is restricted to any section. It is simply the case that there now exists a space where issues specifically to do with black experiences can be shared. If you, as a white person, simply cannot live with the idea of not posting in a forum which has nothing to do with you then go right ahead! Share your pointless opinions! But don’t expect them to be any more welcome or valued than the opinions of straight people on the LGBT board, or misogynists on the feminism board, or people who conceived easily on the infertility board.

WhoAmIWhoAreYou · 16/09/2020 17:45

@OnceUponAThimble

Dividing people up into segregated groups isn't reflecting diversity.
Totally agree with this.

How would a black person feel if white people had their own part of the forum?
We'd be called racists etc..

I think there is clearly a divide going on here and I don't understand why MN has allowed this to happen .

excuse me but it's clear white people aren't welcome there.
OnceUponAThimble · 16/09/2020 17:47

I suppose the difference for Craicnet or Scotsnet is the difference in law/politics/schooling etc. within Ireland and the UK. I think I noticed an Aussie chat thread recently for our Aussie friends. It wasn't a sub-forum, just a chat thread. NI doesn't have a subforum.

Discussing the school holidays on MN when you're Scottish would be pointless as they're totally different.
I don't mind differentiating based on jurisdiction, but colour is a step too far for me. It's likely a new black poster may think that he/she can only post on the black forum.

BadBanana · 16/09/2020 17:47

Really? It reminds me of the current trans divide.

Most of us just getting on with our lives, making connections with anyone, not focusing every single issue through the lens of our ‘identity’.

And a small vocal minority desperate to play the victim, using atrocious acts that happen to similar people in other countries as a reason for demanding special treatment in the very tolerant UK, and blaming literally anyone else for all of their problems. Segregating themselves off into a little group and viewing outsiders with derision, and just pissing everyone else off.

That’s what it reminds me of.

Saucery · 16/09/2020 17:48

@OnceUponAThimble

It's because they moan that they're discriminated against and then they decide not to participate with the masses. Well, I don't know, but if I never speak to anyone at the school gates, I can hardly complain when they don't speak to me. I think it's a step backwards. Doesn't affect me. I suspect it will not be frequented often, but it's your choice and I believe in freedom of choice. I just think it's stupid.
I probably wouldn’t speak to you at the school gates tbh. The first time you said ‘they’ this and ‘they’ that, I’d have the measure of you tbh.
StormzyInaDCup · 16/09/2020 17:48

I'm with the pps. Why not a BAME group? And the term is white people, not whites!

OnceUponAThimble · 16/09/2020 17:49

Plus, don't presume that either my children or I am white.

Saucery · 16/09/2020 17:49

My pointless opinions wouldn’t be welcome, why would they be?

This.

Absolutely this.

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 17:50

excuse me but it's clear white people aren't welcome there

This is just such CRAP that keeps getting churned out.
Posters have repeatedly said that white people are welcome, what was said ISN'T welcome from white posters is

  • what about a board for white people?
  • what about me me me
  • minimising racism etc If you're a white person going to do any of that, then yeah, can see why people doing that wouldn't be welcome.

I didn’t. I presumed you othered sections of the community by the use of ‘they’ this and ‘they’ that. So I wouldn’t be interested in bolstering your opinion that that sort of shit was acceptable.
BIWI · 16/09/2020 17:51

@WhoAmIWhoAreYou

I think you'll find that most of MN is made of white posters, therefore this already exists.

I think there is clearly a divide going on here and I don't understand why MN has allowed this to happen

Then you must be very hard of thinking.

Or racist.

Or both ... Hmm

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 17:51

So campaign for one then?
Patricks was successful getting a board set up, maybe you will be too?
Don't know until you ask and all that
