Whoop whoop

BIWI · 16/09/2020 17:03

@YeaSure

Yea.. This is rasist.

I don't care what others might say or how they justify it.

Keeping others of a different "race" away or banning them from being included based on their "race". Is the textbook definition of racist.

If you were to make a whites only forum, the organiser would be branded as racist immediately. Pathetic, you can't moan yet do this..

Nobody is being excluded and nobody is being banned.

But it's a space on Mumsnet for black posters to post about black issues, so I'm guessing that anyone who is not black wouldn't really have much insight to offer on those posts.

Unless you think somehow you're magically different?

Sexnotgender · 16/09/2020 17:04

@yeOldeTrout

This thread is not kicking off nearly enough for entertainment value .
Have you missed the posters comparing it to apartheid 😂 so embarrassing.
Proudboomer · 16/09/2020 17:04

How do you tell if a poster is black?
Aren’t we all just pixels on a screen

Dearload · 16/09/2020 17:04

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR BLACK WOMEN: WE HAVE A DEDICATED SECTION, WE DON'T HAVE TO JUSTIFY OURSELVES ON THIS THREAD

KarmaStar · 16/09/2020 17:06

Also puzzled,if a white person only board was brought out, there would be an outcry.
Flame me all you like, but living together, working together, being a whole is the aim in this world surely?not the separation of groups of people.
Yes I have been discriminated against but that doesn't want me to move away from people because of the colour of their skin or of mine.

NiceGerbil · 16/09/2020 17:09

Not going to RTFT right now as it was all going THAT'S RACIST TO WHITE PEOPLE within a few posts Hmm

Nice job and congrats, hope the board doesn't get trolled too badly!

BIWI · 16/09/2020 17:10

Here's the thing - black MNetters don't have to post in the section if they don't want to!

Nobody is being forced to post anywhere and neither are they being excluded from anywhere.

Saucery · 16/09/2020 17:10

being a whole is the aim in this world surely?

It is, while accepting that we all have different experiences, some of which are cultural and may be a result of how others treat us based on the colour of our skin.

Anyway, I think Chicken Keepers might be posting about cockerels so you might want to nip over there and tell them off because you only have a hamster.

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 17:12

@Also puzzled,if a white person only board was brought out, there would be an outcry.

It's not a white person only board!
What is so wrong with a separate space to get advice or tips when needed? Just like Scotsnet or wherever.

I mean, posting about kissing your teeth on the main boards would get a load of "what's that then?" etc and a load of waffle.
Or posting about afro hair types as a white person I wouldn't have the first clue how to care for it, and posting on here gets responses like "google might be better for you" - now people can ask on here and actually get people who know answering.

isadorapolly · 16/09/2020 17:12

@OhReallyThen I didn’t say specifically there should be one just called Asians, I thought it would be obvious that there would need to be different sections.

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 17:12

not a black persons only board that should say

SionnachRua · 16/09/2020 17:13

Why would we need a white person board? White is assumed to be the default.

While it's not the same at all I can somewhat relate to it as an Irish person. If you post on here the default assumption is that you are British - sometimes that you are English. A space like Craicnet where Irish people don't constantly have to explain what a press is/school return dates/no, Boris isn't my Prime Minister is quite welcome.

While you have a lovely fluffy notion in your post - Kumbaya, we are all the same etc - the fact remains that people around the world experience life in very different ways. Why shouldn't people be given a space to talk about their experiences without having to explain themselves constantly?

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 17:15

I mean, posting about kissing your teeth on the main boards would get a load of "what's that then?" etc and a load of waffle.

Why shouldn't it be discussed on the main board?

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/09/2020 17:15

As a white person, I wouldn't (hopefully) feel unwelcome on a section for black women but I probably would have little to add to most threads so I probably wouldn't even look - i'm not sure how that is offensive to white/indian/jewish/gay/SN people?

Tellmetruth4 · 16/09/2020 17:15

For other minorities who want a sub board, the process on how to achieve this has been posted within this thread. It seems as though unless you follow the correct process i.e. posting a request in Site Stuff then MN reviewing the amount of interest in creating the group, then you won’t get a sub group. There’s no point raising it within this thread and it’s not PatrickRums job to try and create boards for everyone.

I’m not a Muslim but I can see a need for a board for that group same as with Indians who I believe are the largest minority in the U.K.

Minorities need spaces in which they are not lumped together where they can safely discuss issues which predominantly impact them without others who have no experience of their lives dismissing them or shouting them down to make it about them .

I would be mightily pissed off if I were on a thread about menstruation and PMT and a load of blokes turned up to say I can’t discuss it, it’s not the right time, I’m exaggerating etc, why aren’t I talking about erectile dysfunction instead etc.

Black community must mix sometimes as there are a lot of mixed race children

That's by the by...congratulations!

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 17:19

Why shouldn't it be discussed on the main board?

It can be discussed on the main board, it can still be discussed anywhere - you're missing the point though, that if it's on the main board there's a high chance you'll get a high proportion of people not knowing what you're going on about, whereas in the new section you'll get people who'll know and you'll get proper answers/help/comments/anecdotes!

Tellmetruth4 · 16/09/2020 17:19

The racist posters are making a right show of themselves but hopefully they’ve shown the non racists who were naive to the scale of the issue why racial minority boards are needed. They are practically having breakdowns because a minority got something they requested!

Saucery · 16/09/2020 17:19

@OnceUponAThimble

For a group who fights to be seen as equal, you really are contradicting yourselves imo. I notice that the black community (first generation immigrants) don't mix with white people either. They stick with their own only. And then they wonder why they don't integrate. I personally think that it's sad that you need a forum based on the colour of your skin. But if it's what you want, go for it.
Wow.
Iconical · 16/09/2020 17:19

@wheresthedoobrey

Why not just integrate with everyone else? I'm not being rude, but segregation (and stereotyping) is not the answer surely??

Please bear in mind many people are non white, or of mixed race, but might not identify under the umbrella term Black or Asian... whatever. We're all individuals after all.

I have an English mother, and mixed race biological father (whom I've never met). I look exotic/tanned, but only identify as "English" simply because my English family is all I've ever known. That doesn't stop people attempting to label me at times..... and yes - I've endured my fair share of racist comments!

Oh well. Got my tuppence-worth in!
Peace. xx

You sound similar to me .

It was stated in one of the many now deleted posts about setting up the board that mixed race women were not welcome to participate on the black Mumsnetter board

AuntyPasta · 16/09/2020 17:20

If anyone wondered why posters wanted a section for black mumsnetters this thread should cover it.

Plussizejumpsuit · 16/09/2020 17:21

Great!

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 16/09/2020 17:21

OhReallyThen

If you post your request in Site Stuff a d start a new thread, I'm sure many others will lend their voice to help your cause. I know I will.

The umbrella BAME term is othering and we all have different challenges. I do know how important and needed it is to find a safe space with people like you who understand what you are doing through.

I'm grateful to Patricksrum and all the other posters who supported us in our quest for a Black board. Thank you
