How much do you end up spending on Botox and fillers per year

I am 45 and beginning to look like hell. I know the price of Botox per thing but don’t know how much it ends up costing per year. How much do you end up sending year in year out? I am a Londoner. Thanks.

Lots of substances that are poisonous with irresponsible use are safe when administered by a medical professional. It's such a disingenuous case to make; nobody is so daft as not to understand that. Nobody would recommend taking diamorphine in pregnancy generally, but I had it administered while I was in labour.

And yes, substances can have side effects. A good Botox practitioner will talk this through with you. Some people are unlucky, but it's rare...I don't personally know anyone who had a problem. I've never had any side effects from it, though I have had some nasty ones from antidepressants. You are happy enough to dismiss folliculitis since you've never had it.

If you don't want Botox, by all means don't have it, but stop the moralising and doom mongering. It makes you look wilfully ignorant at best and totally unable to recognise an actual moral issue at worst.

Snoringferret · 17/09/2020 08:37

Looks like Botox can have some pretty nasty side-effects if you're unlucky.

Yes there can be some side effects to Botox but that list is mostly when it's used in different parts of the body than the forehead, when larger dosages are used
and when it's not put in properly.

When you look at the side effects for any drug they look scary, look at the side effects for paracetamol

www.drugs.com/sfx/paracetamol-side-effects.html

The risks to getting a small amount in your forehead are very very low.

Snoringferret · 17/09/2020 08:40

Well said sheba the concern trolling is so tedious.

ShebaShimmyShake · 17/09/2020 08:50

@Snoringferret

Well said sheba the concern trolling is so tedious.
And you, you clearly read the source more closely than the concern troll did.

It's the moralising I can't stand. Botox simply isn't a moral issue. Having it or not having it does not make you a better or worse human. It's a common and minor cosmetic procedure that's way less time and trouble than a cut and colour, and often cheaper depending on the maintenance. I cannot understand why so many people are so up in arms about it.

Making entire character judgements based on nothing more than the fact that someone had a 90-second procedure to smooth out some lines, though, especially ones that weren't actually caused by natural ageing...is that not shallow?

Queenoftheashes · 17/09/2020 09:00

Concern trolls yes! Claiming it’s their civic duty to remind OP this is not mandatory... Those of us who have this done are aware it isn’t mandatory. How patronising to assume otherwise.

ShebaShimmyShake · 17/09/2020 09:09

I wish I could edit that. Even if the lines were caused by natural ageing, it doesn't make any difference. It's still not a moral issue.

remainin · 17/09/2020 09:27

I'm considering it but will probably wait until I can stop wearing a mask.

FranklyImCringeing · 17/09/2020 09:35

@Readandwalk

Well that's a shite rather unintelligent answer. No benifits to being slim.if you haven't earned it so to speak. It doesn't warrant you anything other than a starting place. A starting place without the work needed from internal organs etc.

Jezza

Eh? If you are not overweight, your risk of many diseases decreases hugely. Just being slim makes a difference. Being slim and fit will make more difference, but not being overweight carries health benefits in itself Confused
SurreyHillsGirl · 17/09/2020 09:37

Glitteryone

👏👏👏👏 here’s a big round off applause for everyone who has replied to let the OP know that you’ve never had Botox

What’s the point of you even commenting here?

@FaffingForEngland
Because she asked how much people spent. £0 is an answer

Do you always take everything so literally FaffingForEngland? I don't spend anything on the procedures mentioned but opened the thread as the subject interests me. Not really interested in people who don't spend anything Confused

Some right old weirdos on MN Grin

FranklyImCringeing · 17/09/2020 09:56

Considering the huge number of people who have responded with zero, there must be many "right old weirdos" as you put it, on Mumsnet.

Open a thread on parking issues, MIL's, breastfeeding and you'll see quite a lot of weird MN posts.

IHeartSusanDey · 17/09/2020 10:11

I used to get it twice a year but I hated the restrictive movement. I also developed a vertical line down my forehead. I could see people staring at me and I was paranoid they were thinking I'd had Botox! It definitely didn't give me the confidence I wanted. Plus the bunny lines on my nose were annoying. Such a giveaway.

If it makes people feel good about themselves and confident, of course they should do it. But seeing some of the aggressively defensive comments here, I'm not sure it does.Confused

LadyOfTheCanyon · 17/09/2020 10:11

Bit late to the thread but hey.

I'm 50, spend about £750 a year on Botox and lip fillers. My one terror with fillers was looking 'done.' I emphasised again and again that I just wanted a tiny bit of volume to plump my lips up a bit and avoid the dry chapped look that no amount of drinking water and lip balm was changing. It's done more for my confidence now as when I get up in the morning I don't look like a haggard wreck.

And that's exactly what my Dr has done. I just look "fresher." People who haven't seen me since before lockdown have said I look great. Lipstick goes on beautifully and the Botox has made my eyes look more open and awake. I still have movement in my forehead.

Interestingly she was saying that "preventative" Botox ( which is becoming more prevalent in people in their 20s and 30s) is mainly pointless. Insofar that at whatever stage in life you start to have Botox, it's going to eradicate your lines. So if you start at 20 you're going to have to maintain it indefinitely because as soon as you stop, your lines will start to form. But generally, people don't have significant lines until they reach their 40s, after which point a couple of treatments usually sorts them out. No judgment from me, I just found it interesting, because it's a lot of money to have to keep finding year on year, especially as younger people may be in less of a position to afford it.

I also use retinol, vitamin c and a sunscreen, as I figure the canvas should be as good as it can be!

For people wanting London recs, Cosmetica in Balham is excellent. All the practitioners are doctors and mine very much has a "less is more" approach.

ShebaShimmyShake · 17/09/2020 10:17

What are bunny lines?

ShebaShimmyShake · 17/09/2020 10:25

Never mind, just looked it up. I don't have those, personally, and actually I think they look quite cute on some people. (The name suggests I'm not alone in thinking that.)A bit of quick reading suggests that while they can be a sign of Botox, it's usually if it's been overdone, and they're also just a common natural result of ageing. They're not, by themselves, proof of anything.

However, if you've got them naturally and think it means everyone will think you've had Botox, then I guess you might as well get it done if you want it!

Wheresthepostie · 17/09/2020 10:51

Some £2000 a year on Botox and fillers.

Incredibly happy with the results.

Wheresthepostie · 17/09/2020 10:54

92% of cosmetic surgeries in this country are performed on women.

Personally I think we should all be looking as angry and frowny and tired and haggard as possible, it's shit that there is so much pressure on women to spend so much money and risking their health making themselves look 'acceptable'. And that applies to everything from major surgery to dying your hair/having your nails done/removing your body hair. Concentrate on the stuff that is good for your body and mind like exercise and eating well, not the things that can cause harm.

Erm, no. Fuck right off with that. If you want to look haggard, go ahead, I'd rather have my chemicals.

Dozer · 17/09/2020 10:58

Haggard? No need to be derogatory about other women’s looks - botox using or not!

Angelina82 · 17/09/2020 12:34

Ooh defensive. I bet you’d be frowning right now if you could wouldn’t you? And I think it’s you who’s the unintelligent one if you don’t think there will be benefits to being slim rather than overweight even if you haven’t had to put the work in.

lazylinguist · 17/09/2020 13:07

Wait a minute... so you also spend £0 on it, opened the thread and commented on the thread because you're interested in the topic, but you're criticising other people who did exactly the same, and saying you're not interested in their comments because they (like you) spend nothing on cosmetic procedures?! Righty ho.

Wheresthepostie · 17/09/2020 13:29

The saltiness on this thread is prime comedy!

Us Botoxed fillered women get our stuff done then we go about our lives in perfect contentment, minding our own business and our own faces, without criticising women who don't have procedures.

Then there's the anti brigade who appear to be so damn salty and judgemental I'm surprised you don't all have high blood pressure. Grin

Don't hate me cause you ain't me Wink

mollyminniemo · 17/09/2020 13:35

LadyOfTheCanyon super useful post- thankyou! I've also wanted the tiniest bit in my lips that would only just be noticeable by me, I detest the trout pout look. Would definitely give your place a go- sounds great.

mollyminniemo · 17/09/2020 13:40

All those saying "no need to put poison into your body" make me laugh... skin creams, toothpaste, shower gel, pollution, caffeine, alcohol- all involves you absorbing "poison" into your body in various forms. Unless you live in a shed in the middle of a forest, bathe only in a lake, and live purely off the land it is likely you are inhaling/absorbing/drinking all manner of chemicals into your body, so no need to sound quite so smug...!

Salty? Not heard that before. I can kind of guess the implied context but what does it mean?
