How much do you end up spending on Botox and fillers per year

I am 45 and beginning to look like hell. I know the price of Botox per thing but don’t know how much it ends up costing per year. How much do you end up sending year in year out? I am a Londoner. Thanks.

Tbh I think it's quite odd that it's considered judgemental to think it's a bad idea to have toxins injected into your face.

Do you feel the same about tattoos? Or piercings?

Toxins are injected into your skin when you have a tattoo, healthy tissue is augmented using a needle when you get pierced.
Hair dye is hardly natural or healthy, neither leg waxing or drinking alcohol.

SingingInTheShithouse · 16/09/2020 15:46

Ahhh so you're not ignoring it you're just projecting your already held beliefs onto whatever it is someone says and dismissing anything that doesn't back them up.

Crack on then.

Show me someone where it genuinely isn't noticeable & improves them in my opinion, not yours & doesn't buy into we have to stay looking young to be valid shite, & I'd gladly change my mind. 🤷‍♀️

netsybetsy · 16/09/2020 15:48

Personally I think this attitude is usually borne of wanting to get it done but not doing it because of the imagined moral value to it. There is no moral value to it, but you can't convince them.

You may have a point there - echoes of the Victorian age!

In the Victorian age women used to deride each other according to whether they "painted" (promiscuous) or went natural (wholesome). The criticism seemed to be a moral issue. Not concern for the lead and mercury and other dangerous substances going on women's faces.

Suzi888 · 16/09/2020 15:49

I have a friend in her early thirties who has it done, twice a year. She pays £100-£150 a pop.

netsybetsy · 16/09/2020 15:49

Not that I Botox is dangerous!

Lozz22 · 16/09/2020 15:50

Sod all, I aren't vain

netsybetsy · 16/09/2020 15:50

FFS Not that I mean Botox is dangerous!

It really isn't, it just doesn't look nice to me & therefore doesn't interest me at all & as above, I'm quite happy with my wrinkles & don't feel the need to try & turn back time or buy into the hype that you are only valid if you look younger 🤷‍♀️

Snoringferret · 16/09/2020 15:59

Well that's going to be impossible isn't it because the minute you know they've had Botox you're going to immediately project that they are doing it to buy into 'that stay young to be valid shite'

I don't wear make up except tinted moisturiser, I don't remove my body hair, I have short low maintenance hair, I don't wear high heels or skirts and I really don't give a crap about getting older.

But the three things I do get done are gel nails, good quality skin care and a small amount of Botox on my frown lines.
And I promise you people would be really taken aback if they new I had it.

But it's actually pointless me saying that because you're never going to believe I'm not doing it because I want to look younger.

ShebaShimmyShake · 16/09/2020 16:06

Tbh I think it's quite odd that it's considered judgemental to think it's a bad idea to have toxins injected into your face.

I had drugs injected into me while pregnant and in labour. Many substances that are safe in small quantities, administered by a professional, are dangerous if you don't know what you're doing with them. This is a really disingenuous point. It's fine not to like Botox, it's more than fine not to want to have it, but this clutching at straws for "worthy" reasons to dislike it is ridiculous. The reason nobody can come up with anything reasonable beyond not wishing it for themselves is because it simply isn't a moral issue or a mark of character.

SingingInTheShithouse · 16/09/2020 16:07

Snoring

If you are not doing it to look younger, why do you want to get rid of frown lines, ?they are part of getting older, so that just doesn't make sense to me at all. Confused

& you're right about convincing me, but if I ever come across anyone in RL who looks better than they did, or I don't see signs of the work they've had done, then I'd be suitably impressed that it looks natural. It still wouldn't convince me to want it though as most I see are pretty obvious, even if they think it isn't.

OnceUponAThimble · 16/09/2020 16:12

Could anyone in London recommend a good but fairly priced salon anywhere in London (happy to travel within any area of London). I'm interested in both botox and fillers, but fillers mainly.

Because like I've said a few times on this thread I don't have normal 'getting older' frown lines. I have 'squinting to see for 30 odd years' frown lines. So they were an actual etch right down the middle of my face that made me look really miserable. So much so people would ask me if I was ok when I was completely fine.
I also got pressure headaches from squinting all the time.
That's all gone now. I actually still have a faint line and I can still frown and move my face it's just that my default isn't a glowering angry face.
My headaches have eased and the Botox I got done in my jaw is incredible for stopping me grinding my teeth and that has no aesthetic function at all.

Frown lines don't make you look older, they make you look frowny. I don't know how I'm going to convince you that I know my face better than you do.

Also you seem to think that people think you yourself should get Botox or that people look bad without it.
That's not true.

I think women look beautiful with older faces and I totally understand someone's decision not to get it themselves I think lots of women look better without it.
However I'm not one of them:

MrsExpo · 16/09/2020 16:26

Nil here too. I'm 66, have a simple but effective (for me) skin care routine and am in reasonable shape for my age. I think that's the best we can all hope for. It just wouldn't occur to me to even think about Botox.

TheLastStarfighter · 16/09/2020 16:31

@stonesandbark

Late 40s. I do facial yoga so no major problem areas yet,

@TheLastStarfighter Can I ask when you started to do facial yoga? I was thinking of starting but not sure if it is too late. I am late 40s too.( I have quite pronounced 11 lines!)

First started in my 20s but stopped because there didn't feel like any real point. Picked up again in my early 40s and I think it makes a massive difference. It's like any area of the body really, it allows you to target the muscles that support the skin, improves bloodflow etc. Interestingly, I found out that its a lot of the same exercises that a friend uses for warming up when acting.

To be honest, even if it didn't have a visual effect I would still do it as it just makes my face feel better. Same as after a regular yoga session. Can feel the tension leave the forehead and jaw.

Your last 3 posts make much more sense, though I do personally just see frown lines as part of ageing, even when they are more severe. I have them too for similar reasons & it's never occurred to me that they aren't just part of how I age.

Your comments on headaches improving with it really got my attention though as I get those too & something that fixed it would be a godsend. You may have convinced me yet 😂

Please do not go to a 'salon'. See a Dr or a nurse (who is able to prescribe and administer the injection). And see before and after photos of their work, especially on fillers.

Viviennemary · 16/09/2020 16:41

Nothing. I have thought about it quite a few times. Too scared it would go wrong.

Dillydallyingthrough · 16/09/2020 16:41

I've found this thread really interesting as I've been saying for a few years I want it done for migraines but always felt it may be unsafe.

I'm quite surprised so many people do it in their early 30's (I'm late 30s and some of friendship group have got it done recently). I think whether you can tell if people have had subtle botox is 50/50, a couple of friends have approached me to tell me that they have had it and it's a secret that no-one knows, I've had to act shocked as I already knew and could tell. But I've also had friends who have told me they have had it done and I've been genuinely surprised, but they have had tiny amounts in 1 area. I had said to both they had looked really well and fresh faced before they told me. I do think you cant tell in some and in some they think you cant tell but you can. I couldn't care less, they are both lovely regardless.

Snoringferret · 16/09/2020 16:43

😂😂😂

Maybe I'll see you on these boards one day telling everyone about how helpful Botox is lol

Seriously though Botox is used by the nhs for people with severe migraines, obviously due to cost it's only given to people with very bad cases, but it's well known to help with tension headaches and I know you can get it done for this privately.

I found that I was in a negative feedback loop with my body too so the more I tensed the more my body thought I was stressed so the more it tensed. The Botox actually retrained my body to use my muscles differently so even when it wears off it's still helpful.

I meditate, do yoga, all the suggested things but Botox was the best thing I've ever done for my stress. I actually don't think my body knew how to relax and just needed to be shown how.
The person who does my Botox is a registered dentist and she describes it as a muscle relaxant.

My face looks brighter because it's relaxed!

weightedpunch · 16/09/2020 16:46

👏👏👏👏 here’s a big round off applause for everyone who has replied to let the OP know that you’ve never had Botox.

What’s the point of you even commenting here?

OP I’ve never had it before

The hypocrisy 🤣🤣

ShebaShimmyShake · 16/09/2020 16:54

Something tells me that people who get Botox for medical reasons will somehow be magically exempt from the ping pong ball shiny rubbery plastic ugliness that afflicts anyone who does it to get rid of lines.

SingingInTheShithouse · 16/09/2020 16:54

No hypocrisy at all Weighted as doing it to improve my looks still doesn't interest me at all 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for that Snoring, I do all of that too & other stuff. I do have diagnosed chronic migraines & cant take the meds, so having looked online, seems I qualify for it via the NHS & have done for over 15 years, so before it was available as migraine treatment. I'm now a bit peed off that it hasn't been suggested by my doctors tbh 😏 will definitely be having a chat with them though. Thanks
