Long story short(ish) - DH had my DS out on bike this afternoon with an attachment between his bike and DS' bike.

DS asked if I would take him out with the little bike attached to my bike. DH jumped in and said it was tricky to change the attachment from one bike to another and that we could do it another day. I am not one to be put off by a bit of diy etc so suggested I would take a look at the attachment and see if I thought I could do it.
At this point DH got quite animated saying 'no don't you go out rummaging in my toolbox...I don't want you trying that as you'll never manage it and will need my help etc.' He also said in front of DS and DD ' I know this is one of your moments where you won't take no for an answer and have to prove that women can do man things...but excuse me for wanting to be traditional and say that my tools are my tools.' In my mind he was acting like a misogynistic pig but maybe he genuinely felt I would get stuck and couldn't be bothered sorting it out..AIBU to be in a huff?!

That is very odd. Even if he didnt want you looking in his tools he could have just given you the relevant one, if only to prove to you you coulnt do it🙄(unlikely). He sounds very domineering. That wouldnt last with me

OP, what did yo want from this thread? A series of posters saying 'ha ha, men, aren't they silly?' to make you feel better and help you push away what you know is beginning to reveal itself - that this man isn't 'reformed' at all, he wore you down with begging and pleading so he could continue having domestic stuff done for him/maintain the 'family man' image and now he thinks he's been on best behaviour long enough and is testing the water.

How did your children feel about him coming back?

There is something in the toolbox......tools!
Oooh spoiler. I was just about to do my best Brad Pitt Whaaatttt'ss in the box? impression dammit!
You need your own toolbox OP - suggest it as a Xmas present to you from your DD then you have your own woman tools for woman things Wink

chatterbugmegastar · 14/09/2020 06:34

second phone?! because that's not a massive leap is it?!

You asked

Confused

If there is nothing hidden in his toolbox then he is VERY weird and I wouldnt want him around me or the DC

Stompythedinosaur · 14/09/2020 06:58

Yuck. He does not sound like a nice man, even if he is nice on occasion. He sounds like a man who believes men and better than women, and wants to teach your dc that.

VettiyaIruken · 14/09/2020 07:02

Sounds like he's maintained his "I've changed" persona as long as he can and the real him is peeping through.

How does he imagine women who live alone cope? I suppose we all have to call our daddies to avoid using tools and skinning our dainty knuckles....
