To call my baby this

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

OP posts:

If I didn't think of covid I'd definitely think of ceiling coving. Sorry OP - for me its like calling a baby Skirting.

Moomin12345 · 12/09/2020 09:56

Elon musk's latest baby has a fun name.

IamMaz · 12/09/2020 09:57

No - choose a different one.

pooopypants · 12/09/2020 09:57

I thought Cove was bad, but Cleopatra is awful. What about Cleo as a first name?

HorsePellets · 12/09/2020 09:58

She will get the piss ripped out of her something rotten, and you will get all sorts of comments about your name choice too. If the people are polite, those comments won’t be to your face.

Polnm · 12/09/2020 10:02

Cleopatra isn’t an Egyptian name. It is the equivalent of calling g a child Boudicca and saying that commemorates your grandparents heritage

dottiedodah · 12/09/2020 10:05

I would not use it no.Just wrong really .

FelicityPike · 12/09/2020 10:06

I’ve seen this thread before, I’m sure of it.

CatteStreet · 12/09/2020 10:07

@Prettybluepigeons

The covid thing makes it ridiculous. The name itself.....its not a name. It's a noun. Like rock or beach or table or chair. There are so many really beautiful names to choose from. Please dont call a child Cove.
This.
EasilyDeleted · 12/09/2020 10:09

Not unless you want her to go through life being asked "is that short for Covid?".

Cleo is nice but Cleopatra, no.

ChinUpChestOut · 12/09/2020 10:09

No, not Cove. And Cleopatra really gives her something to live up to...Hmm

I agree with the PP who suggested Cleo - it's a pretty name and a tribute to the grandparent.

Lockheart · 12/09/2020 10:09

The word cove I think is nice, it reminds me of secret peaceful Cornish beaches.

As a name however, no.

KarmaStar · 12/09/2020 10:09

Please don't call an innocent baby a name which everyone will assume is short for covid and will thereby make her life a misery.
To go ahead and do that is nothing short of cruel.

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 12/09/2020 10:09

No,no,no,no!

DysonFury · 12/09/2020 10:11

Apparently there were twins in our town names after NDubz, Tulisa and ... Costa, a shortening of Costadinos or some such, one of the blokes in the band's real names Grin

KarmaStar · 12/09/2020 10:12

Op,do update with the name you decide on .

Toddlerteaplease · 12/09/2020 10:21

I thought Cove is another word for criminal.

Historydweeb · 12/09/2020 10:22

Dove?
Clove?
Just not cove

canihaveabrew · 12/09/2020 10:23

Is it the sound you like or the meaning?

I think Cove is a bit too close to Covid.

If sound could you go with Clove instead?

If meaning - I'm unsure if you're going with the English or the Hebrew origin?

For English there were some lovely alternatives above - I really liked Haven?

For Hebrew here are some you may like?

Thecobwebsarewinning · 12/09/2020 10:24

Lol. Cove Cleopatra.

ElsieMc · 12/09/2020 10:24

Please don't saddle your child with a name that will cause them problems during school years op. Its bad enough if it's a surname and I was in a class with a Bunny.

I have five gc's and dd1 is expecting next month. I have never ever commented on names until this time. But they cannot agree so have settled on a slang amalgamation of two. Op, please do not do this.

Strangely I heard Zoe Ball talking to Keith Richards about the song Angie this week. He said it was his daughter's name. Yes, but she changed her own name to Angela from Dandelion.

canihaveabrew · 12/09/2020 10:25

@Jubaju

Google says it’s actually a name... wow. A stupid one. In the current climate it would be even more ridiculous to call your baby that- but i suspect you know that.
It's not a stupid name.

It's actually quite an establish Hebrew name; the OP may be Jewish.

Just because it isn't Anglican doesn't make it stupid.

It is, however, unfortunate timing.

Cissyandflora · 12/09/2020 10:26

Today 08:38 GreenPlum

Don't do it. Such a shame and another thing covid has taken from us. But seriously. You can't do it now.

This did make me laugh. Sorry. I don’t feel robbed by having the ‘name’ cove taken away from us.

Waveysnail · 12/09/2020 10:26

You could change to Clove? Or go for Cleo in honour of grandparent

tinatsarina · 12/09/2020 10:27

I like it and I didn't think of covid when I first read it.
Your baby your name I'd say go with it.
