To call my baby this

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

OP posts:

Isn't it a slang name for vagina !?

Don't do it!

chinaplate2 · 13/09/2020 17:40

In my class a girl by the name of Corina is being teased. Don't do it!

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 13/09/2020 17:41

What about Cleo Cove?

saffy2 · 13/09/2020 17:42

People are so rude and judgemental when people are different 🙄
I love the name. I would probably use it regardless tbh. We had some gorgeous out there names on my daughters name list and people were extremely judgemental. Remember op, it looks bad on those who are so narrow minded they judge a child’s name rather than on the parents who were open enough to accept difference.

Rachand23 · 13/09/2020 17:43

Use it for a second name

Weave · 13/09/2020 17:43

Cove as in ‘old cove’?

DonaPatrizia · 13/09/2020 17:44

Why not call her Lamorna or the name of another cove instead if you can think of one that’s suitable, that’d be much nicer.
Cove makes me think of Port, Harbour or Dry Dock and all kinds of other nautical things!

buildingbridge · 13/09/2020 17:45

Coraline is a lovely name... coral for short.

Cove, is not nice name and it sounds like a boys name.

schmedz · 13/09/2020 17:45

I knew a child called Isis (named after the Egyptian goddess).

Parents changed her name in about Y2 at school due to other unfortunate association with that name.

Prevention is better than cure, OP.

If you like the name and your mind goes to Covid, you’re not going to be alone in making the association in future.

Sh05 · 13/09/2020 17:45

Evelyn is beautiful, Evie for short

Angelil · 13/09/2020 17:48

My first thought that it was actually quite a nice name. I wouldn't have associated it with Covid at all until others said it. As other posters have also said, though, it's not like 5-year-olds will tease her about it when she starts going to school...
If you have always wanted it for a girl then I would go for it - you might never have another girl and regret choosing a different name for this child.

thelongwayhome · 13/09/2020 17:48

I went to school with a Clover, that's quite similar. Not a name I'd choose personally but Cove is... Not great

Wilkie1956mog · 13/09/2020 17:49

Cove? What sort of name is that? No, don't do it. Covid or not.

thelongwayhome · 13/09/2020 17:49

But your other name options are great too, Juniper is really pretty

BeenNeverSeen · 13/09/2020 17:49

Cleo, definitely! Cleo Evelyn is pretty

Ineke · 13/09/2020 17:49

If you were wanting a similar meaning to Cove but not with the connotations then how about Bay?.?
At least it's not as ridiculous as some names I've come across, Idasha being one, sounds nice until you realise that it is spelt I-a!

Lynnikins · 13/09/2020 17:49

"Cove" will definitely have the p* taken out of her. Don't be surprised if she goes for a legal name change as soon as she's old enough.
BTW: if you are absolutely determined to burden her with this name, why not make it her second or third "christian" name? That way, she'll hardly ever have to reveal it.

Lynnikins · 13/09/2020 17:52

Think of the child, not the parents.

skyblu · 13/09/2020 17:53

Yes, you would be being unreasonable to call a child Cove....especially a child born in the midst of the Covid pandemic!

MollyMinniesMum · 13/09/2020 17:53

Nope

Lisa82sim · 13/09/2020 17:53

She won't thank you for that name

Ineke · 13/09/2020 17:53

My sister is a teacher, the child's name was spelt I - a but pronounced Idasha which is lovely, just the spelling a bit weird!

FelicisNox · 13/09/2020 17:55

It's a no from me.

MummyofTw0 · 13/09/2020 17:57

Not a fan of the name at all, sorry

Ineke · 13/09/2020 17:58

And yes, cove means you old rogue, blackguard. Not nice associations. Think Arthur Dailey in Minder, he was an old cove.
