To call my baby this

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

I think Cove is lovely. But then to me a name just becomes someone's name if you see what I mean. I'm sure it would suit your little girl and in a year or sos time I don't think anyone would make the connection, especially not her peers.

You would get a few raised eyebrows naming her it right now due to the pandemic but also because a lot of people just don't like the name. Don't let it put you off.

wedidntstartthefires · 12/09/2020 19:17

Just don't.

VestaTilley · 12/09/2020 19:34

JFC. Are you serious?

Do not call her this. Not only is it not a human name, but EVERYONE she ever met would think you’d named your baby after Covid-19.

It would be tantamount to cruelty to call your child this. It’s also a stupid name.

OP, I have a beautiful baby girl called Cove, born in the midst of a pandemic, but we loved the name before Covid and we love it equally now.
Don't change if you love it Biscuit

ToastyCrumpet · 12/09/2020 19:59

I’m with @thumbwitchesabroad. Call her Cleopatra and shorten it to Cleo. Or just call her Cleo. It’s a lovely name.

Dee1975 · 12/09/2020 20:16

I do agree that it does seem a little too much to call her that now. And people will prob always remember the year 2020 for covid.

pawsies · 12/09/2020 20:22

My 13 year old dog is called Isis. Not going to change it. It suits her 😊

VeryQuaintIrene · 12/09/2020 20:23

Please, no Cove, or Clove for that matter.

Di11y · 12/09/2020 20:29

Love the idea of Cleo with a different middle name and save cove for another daughter. Even better if her birth certificate has full name but you don't tell anyone unless you want to so she can whip it out when she wants to be fabulous

PoodleMoth · 12/09/2020 20:34

Cleopatra juniper sounds lovely

AndAnotherUsername · 12/09/2020 20:35

I think Cove would be lovely as a name.

Once the novelty of Covid has (hopefully) worn off in a couple of years, I don’t think people will associate it with Covid (you wouldn’t associate Polly with polio or Flo with flu) but yes probably in the short term you’d get some snide remarks.

2bazookas · 12/09/2020 21:57

@TitsOutForHarambe

I didn't make the association with covid until you said it at the end of your post.

I think that once we have a vaccine it will quickly become a distant memory. Remembered by many but not often thought about.

"Not often thought about"? . The longer it goes on the more people die and are permanently damaged, and their families and friends won't ever forget. Not to mention the people who will always associate covid with the loss of their job, livelihood, business, home.
nannykatherine · 13/09/2020 17:20

I think you’re making this up

Clytemnestra2 · 13/09/2020 17:25

I know a 5 year old Isis, who must have been named at the height of Isis being prominent everywhere in the media. That struck me as a very weird choice of name!

ssd · 13/09/2020 17:26

Cove Grin

As if

averythinline · 13/09/2020 17:27

Cove - no

I like Cleopatra - you could just call her Cleo .... its a classic name and I like a name with a family/cultural connexion and use that as a first name

I also like Juniper and Evelyn not so keen on Evie thats nowhere near as classic as your other names

Amitskitshaw · 13/09/2020 17:32

I didn’t make the connection to Covid.

Ineke · 13/09/2020 17:33

If you are fixed on this name maybe use it as a middle or second name. The association with this virus is not a pleasant reminder. My nephew has just had a baby boy whom they called Lake, which is a gender neutral name and although unusual it is a real name and has meaning, it's at least in some child naming books. I think you would want to forget this horrible virus and not be reminded of it every time you call your child.

josbd · 13/09/2020 17:34

Funny old cove isn't he?

momofone2020 · 13/09/2020 17:36

@nannykatherine

I think you’re making this up
It an opinion and a personal choice, not a joke
Julz1622 · 13/09/2020 17:36

Name your child whatever you like. Seriously, some people are so bloody rude. Like someone else said by the time she goes to school kids her age won't remember covid (hopefully)

Chalkitup · 13/09/2020 17:37

Hearing that name doesn't particularly remind me of covid, but it does spring to mind the dark cavernous place babies tend to come out of

pollymere · 13/09/2020 17:40

A Cove is slang for a rotten cheat...
