To call my baby this

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

OP posts:

I think it’s pretty and I wouldn’t have thought of Covid. A name’s just a collection of letters the same as any word, and they evolve over time, if you really love it then I think you should go with it. I you were going to call her Olivia or Amelia you’d get as many people telling you that she’d be one of hundreds in her class and you shouldn’t do it.

Dahlietta · 12/09/2020 13:16

Cleopatra (Cleo for short) is a great name! I would also think of Cove as a boy's name insofar as it is a name.

Sakura7 · 12/09/2020 13:18

It's not a name anyway, just a random word. But yes the similarity to covid is even more off putting.

If you call you child Cove don't be surprised if she changes it by deed poll the moment she's able.

helpmum2003 · 12/09/2020 13:22

OP I agree with PP that Cove is not great.

Cleo would be great.

I also love Evelyn and you have the option of nn Evie.

Cadent · 12/09/2020 14:01

RTFT PEOPLE.

OP SAID AT 9.48am THAT SHE CHANGED HER MIND.

FenellaVelour · 12/09/2020 14:11

Evelyn/Evie is nice enough but there are so many of them.
If I were you I’d consider Cleo as a first name, lovely and not overused.

wifflewafflebiscuit · 12/09/2020 14:22

Really would choose another name.

Aloethere · 12/09/2020 14:42

@Aloethere 'Fauve' is the French word for a wild beast. It's not a great connotation.

It is also a name(and not that unusual I would think, I've met quite a few Fauves anyway) and has the same sound as the name OP picked. Lots of people would connect it to Fauvism.

No, she said she would have to rethink. That's not the same thing as changing your mind, it implies she's still at least considering the possibilty of Cove.

Ok, if you say so. I've never heard of it as a name. But the Fauvists got their name from the word fauve because a critic thought the works were wild. It's the same connotations. And it doesn't mean wild like 'natural', it means it in the sense of ferocious, savage. If it is used as a name I guess parents might be thinking that it means something like 'untamed, independent', but it really doesn't.

GabsAlot · 12/09/2020 17:07

phoebo?

mayandjuniper · 12/09/2020 17:07

Grapewrath · 12/09/2020 17:18

I almost called one of my dds Isis many years ago Shock

canihaveabrew · 12/09/2020 17:25

@Grapewrath

No I wouldn’t I almost called one of my dds Isis many years ago Shock
I bet you're thanking your stars that you didn't!

It's a shame because it's a lovely name in its own right!

Reminds me of the poor dog on Downton Abbey that was called Isis and unfortunately had to be killed off!

StellaElevator · 12/09/2020 17:46

Don’t fucking call your baby Cove. Jesus. Even without the pandemic it’s not a name for a baby.

WildfirePonie · 12/09/2020 17:48

I really like the name Cove OP.

It's not like anyone will use her middle name anyway!

DappledThings · 12/09/2020 17:49

I wouldn't associate it with COVID. I would still think it's a very silly name though.

Therealjudgejudy · 12/09/2020 18:01

Cove Cleopatra... this has to be a joke Confused

Flappingflamingo · 12/09/2020 18:10

Evelyn cleopatra would be better, cleo Evelyn would be great!

BluePeterVag · 12/09/2020 18:12

Cloven? Is your surname Hooves? Or Hoof?

formerbabe · 12/09/2020 18:12

How about Coral?

CurlyMango · 12/09/2020 18:16

Cove.......please no

user12345796 · 12/09/2020 18:27

I can't be bothered to read the full thread. Cove means rogue as well as all the pandemic connotations

Wanderer1 · 12/09/2020 18:43

Sorry OP not read the whole thread bit I just came in to say how about Clove, I know it's a spice, but it has a lovely sound and so similar to Cove without the viral association

Blondiney · 12/09/2020 18:45

@BluePeterVag

That tickled me probably more than it should. Grin
