To call my baby this

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

Yeah don't do it, for the actual name, a lifetime of "haha your parents thought they were funny didn't they".

We always pick a nickname whilst I'm pregnant, we haven't come up with one yet (I'm 16 weeks) so I might steal it, I jokingly suggested covid to my husband (it's a lockdown baby) cove though short for covid, funny but not actually named a virus!

It's a weird name though anyway, imagine an adult at work being called cove! "Hi I'm Cove" "were you named after where you were conceived or that virus?" 🤔😆

I personally like Cove but I do think it's an unfortunate time to use it! Cleo is a gorgeous name.

FortniteBoysMum · 12/09/2020 11:29

Don't do it.

NataliaOsipova · 12/09/2020 11:31

Cleo is nice, actually. Or Evelyn Cleopatra from your other suggestions.

NoGinNotComingIn · 12/09/2020 11:32

Seen your update, Evie is lovely 👍🏻 and not currently overused, I only know 1 who is about 10.

Rightthen24 · 12/09/2020 11:33

I dont like it, sorry but there are lots of beautiful girls names to choose from

zukiecat · 12/09/2020 11:35

I didn't associate it with Covid.

My first thought that there is a suburb of my city called Cove, though without that association it's a pretty name.

Mumoflittles · 12/09/2020 11:36

I love the name and have heard of a child called it too but its just bad timing.

ramarama · 12/09/2020 11:39

OP I do know a baby Cleo, you could use that as middle name to honour your grandmother in a slightly less teasing-provocative way?

Evie is sweet, but it's become very common in SW London (and she may often get called Edie by mistake) How about Juno?

NotImpossible · 12/09/2020 11:40

It's not the association I made - I thought "oh, never heard that used as a name before... it's pretty". But it seems I'm in the minority.

I'm not sure the connection will stick - in a few years it probably won't be something people will notice - but it does seem that many might find it odd right now. I'd say use it if you like it.

NotImpossible · 12/09/2020 11:42

Oops,sorry - I see I missed the update!

Italiangreyhound · 12/09/2020 11:44

If you like sound go for Cleo, Chloe, Colette, but no, not Cove and especially not now.

NameChange1966 · 12/09/2020 11:44

Rock Pool is a really nice name or Sandy Beach or even Whitley Bay, go for something along the same theme but not Cove.

AramintaLee · 12/09/2020 11:45

I think Cove Cleopatra is a bit much because of the alliteration. It just sounds very pretentious.

Agree with people who said to shorten it to Cleo. That's a lovely name. Cove should probably be stricken from the list as it really is awful. It doesn't really make me think of "Covid" but she will get absolutely ripped during her school years.

I like unusual names but try to stay clear of ones that are nouns as they are invariably tacky.

Yankathebear · 12/09/2020 11:46

Cove is lovely but I think probably not at the moment.
Cleopatra is beautiful and a lovely way to honour your granny.

MusicWithRocksIn1t · 12/09/2020 11:47

Juniper Cleo sounds lovely to me.

I gave my kids very normal names because they are functional and I liked them but I do actually like Cove but agree its probably a bad call right now.

Both my children have a grandparents name as a middle name but again they are quite plain names (think Jane and John).
I'm expecting my 3rd baby and want to incorporate my grandmothers name in some way but I really don't like the name (Patricia) if its a boy I think Pat would be OK as a middle name though. My sister suggested Cia as a middle name for a girl which my gran actually preferred to her name.

Maybe your gran would be OK with Cleo if you say we named her Cleo after you.

gogojojo · 12/09/2020 11:48

I thinking of calling my lockdown conceived baby Rona GrinGrin

Petitmum · 12/09/2020 11:49

I think it's an awful choice anyway but I would think you were bonkers to call a child this in the midst of this pandemic!!

zingally · 12/09/2020 11:50

Yeah... bad call.

CaptainAthena · 12/09/2020 11:50

May I suggest Balonz? Beautiful name

ABingThing · 12/09/2020 11:50

I grew up near Cove Bottom, so hearing it as a name made me wince.

ILikeTrains · 12/09/2020 11:50

I agree with the suggestion to keep it as a middle name, you obviously like the name so why not use it? At least as a middle name it won't draw so much attention.

Cryalot2 · 12/09/2020 11:54

How about Cleopatra Cove?
That way you still have the names you love.
I think Cleopatra is beautiful.

LittleTiger007 · 12/09/2020 11:56

In these times of covid please don’t. People will only see that link. I hope the birth goes well and you come up with another name that you like.

chickenortheegg · 12/09/2020 11:56

Cleo is a pretty and modern name that works well in 2020.
It's good that you have some alternatives to Cove. There are some great girls names linked to the sea if it's the meaning that you like.
