I hate the breadbin it's so big and cumbersome - we have a traditional sliding door brabantia one.
Is it bad to keep bread in a cupboard or drawer?

I keep my bread in a cupboard.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/09/2020 18:15

You can keep it in a shed as long as you are happy with where it is. If you don't like bread bin, get rid

Chasingsquirrels · 11/09/2020 18:16

I've always kept mine in the cupboard.
(It should be on that empty shelf, but we didn't have any when I took the picture!).

Cool picture. What about crumbs though?

You could have small tray in there. Bread would be taken out on the tray and returned on the tray. That should solve crumbs.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/09/2020 18:20

We used to have small baskets

SuzieCarmichael · 11/09/2020 18:21

Doesn’t it dry out or go mouldy though?

Chasingsquirrels · 11/09/2020 18:22

The crumbs stay in the bread bag.
Fresh baked bread lives on the wooden cutting board, gets covered with one of those net things and doesn't last the day.

Send me your breadbin! We keep ours in the cupboard and it's fine, crumbs stay in the bag, or if it's homemade it goes in tupperware. I really want a breadbin so I can keep it on top of the dresser and free up cupboard space.

Celticdawn5 · 11/09/2020 18:25

Bread in cupboard or direct from freezer. Sliced bread doesn’t take long to defrost.
I couldn’t get on with a bread bin and it got on my nerves being out on the side. Tried again recently with a tall John Lewis one but gave it away after a few weeks.

Biancadelrioisback · 11/09/2020 18:31

My bread lives in its bag on top of the toaster...

IveSeenThings · 11/09/2020 18:46

Ours is in the cupboard- never found a breadbin I like!

Snozzlemaid · 11/09/2020 18:48

I threw our bread bin out just this week. Not enough space for all the bread we have so it was usually hanging around the worktop.
So we've put another shelf in a cupboard and it's now all tidy in the cupboard.

CatBatCat · 11/09/2020 18:49

in a basket on the side.

Emeraldshamrock · 11/09/2020 18:51

I keep mine in a press. an Irish cupboard My bread bin is used to hide cake.

Suzi888 · 11/09/2020 18:52

The freezer, defrost when needed

Marylou62 · 11/09/2020 18:52

My bread is in the cupboard on top of the plates.. I wanted to keep worktops as clear as possible..

Singinghollybob · 11/09/2020 18:53

We keep ours in the freezer and take out slices as we need them

blackteaplease · 11/09/2020 18:53

I keep bread in a lock and lock box in the pantry. The sides are too cluttered already without a loaf hanging around

barberousbarbara · 11/09/2020 18:55

Mine lives on top of the microwave (moved onto the counter when the microwave is being used). I don't have space for a bread bin or enough room in the cupboards

MissConductUS · 11/09/2020 19:06

I put bread in the fridge. It keeps it from going stale as fast. Or in the freezer if we're not likely to eat it soon.

LordEmsworth · 11/09/2020 19:10

I feel very stupid because I can't work out why keeping bread in a cupboard would be unreasonable or in any way bad...

Doesn’t it dry out or go mouldy though? Yes of course it does, if you don't eat it. But that happens if you keep it in a bread bin as well, unless you have some sort of magic Narnia bread bin. In which case then obviously it would be unreasonable to keep it in the cupboard and not in the magic box...

MsVestibule · 11/09/2020 19:14

I thought keeping bread in a cupboard was quite normal? We always have - I don't want my work surfaces any more cluttered than they already are!

forgetthehousework · 11/09/2020 19:26

I keep ready sliced bread in the fridge - every 'expert' says it doesn't last as long but personal experience says it does; we mostly use it for toast so don't really notice if it's a bit dry, that's still better than being a bit mouldy!

JMG1234 · 11/09/2020 19:29

I got fed up of my bread bin too, so our bread lives in a kitchen drawer. It doesn't seem to have done it any harm.
