To keep bread in cupboard or drawer

I hate the breadbin it's so big and cumbersome - we have a traditional sliding door brabantia one.
Is it bad to keep bread in a cupboard or drawer?

Mine sits on the worktop and annoys me for cluttering (or use freezer bread every so often but after reading this it’s going in the cupboard !

@horehound

I can believe a volcano, or a tsunami can be awesome but not a bread bin! Hmm

Slice it if it's a loaf, and into the freezer. Same with sliced bread.Take out what you need and ready to eat in five or so minutes.

No breadbins or mouldy bread here!

SBTLove · 11/09/2020 20:35

All these bread bins being consigned to the bin this weekend 🤣

BlackbirdFirst · 11/09/2020 20:36

The kids grab bread constantly it wouldn't work being in the freezer. We eat about a loaf a day.
Interested so many people do that.

BlackirdFirst,

Buy the brioche rolls in Aldi so, they last forever, I don't know why, but they are great for snacks with whatever topping you like. Take up little space, don't need a breadbin, but for hungry horrors they work!

All other fresh bread goes in the freezer, but they are used to that. Can be toasted from frozen in a couple of minutes too.

I have a fab wooden bread box from John Lewis. Bought it because we have mice ☹️

kyles101 · 11/09/2020 22:46

I got rid of mine, because I ate too much bread. Then I started to eat bread again, because, carbs, and my mum made me get another bread bin because it was unseemly to have bread on the worktop. I'm 35.

LyndzB · 11/09/2020 22:50

My husband puts it in the microwave 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

TheSparklyPussycat · 11/09/2020 22:57

Mine is in a large tin, which is supposedly for keeping cake in. The tin lives in a cupboard under the worktop.

I love my tiny bread bin from M&S www.marksandspencer.com/small-oak-wood-bread-bin/p/hbp22310517?color=OAK

It rather depends on the type of bread, how long you take to get through the loaf, and whether you have mice...

We have one of these in the cupboard for DS's vile white processed bread (he has ASD) as it takes him a week to get through a loaf. It goes dry left out, mouldy in the wrapper and isn't nice for sandwiches when it's frozen. It's expandable and takes up less space than a bread bin but has all the benefits, and keeps it fresh long past the BB date.

Keep it in the microwave, it's completely sealed.

Nyclair · 12/09/2020 06:20

Fridge!

chilling19 · 12/09/2020 07:02

A built in bread in in a drawer! I want one.

BlackbirdFirst · 12/09/2020 07:54

@Thisismytimetoshine

Keep it in the microwave, it's completely sealed.
Isn't keeping it completely sealed bad for it? It will go mouldy faster....

I keep mine in the cupboard. It’s much better than my old breadbin, everything is eye level so nothing gets hidden at the back going mouldy and you can instantly see what’s there. It doesn’t affect how long it’s fresh for either. Once a week I wipe my cupboards and fridge out with biodegradable baby wipes (best things ever for a quick clean, god knows that they do to a baby’s skin) so everything is fresh and smells nice too.
