To ask you to help me find this teddy bear for DD

My DD (age 5) has had a teddy bear since she was born (was a gift from one of her aunts) and she absolutely loves it to death. Sleeps with it every night, runs to cuddle it when she is sad.

Unbeknown to me or DH she decided to put it in her schoolbag yesterday morning and take it to school. She got home from school and it was gone, no longer in her bag. She swears blind she left it in her bag all day but the last time she can remember seeing it is lunchtime yesterday.

She was in floods of tears yesterday afternoon, we retraced our steps all the way back to the school, looked in all the surrounding streets, I have posted on local groups and asked the school but no-one has seen it. We asked again at the school office this morning and still nothing. I have searched ebay and all the usual second hand sites I can think of but nothing is coming up.

So, AIBU to ask you to help me find a replacement bear, or should I use this as a life lesson for DD and not replace it?

FelicityPike · 14/09/2020 18:25

Thank goodness!!!

Floralnomad · 14/09/2020 18:25

I’m so pleased for your daughter but I think it’s very sly of someone not to at least own up to having taken him .

TuttiFrutti123 · 14/09/2020 18:26

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 14/09/2020 18:37

I am so pleased to read your update. What an adventure teddy has had!

Mountainpika · 14/09/2020 18:48

She can ask Teddy where she had been and will then tell you the wonderful stories that Teddy has told her about her (Teddy's)
adventures.

Chickoletta · 14/09/2020 18:57

So pleased for you!! My DD has a rabbit comforter which she feels similarly about and I feel sure it would be like a bereavement if she ever lost it. Some thieving child took it, felt guilty and snuck it back in.

RandomMess · 14/09/2020 18:57

Fantastic!!!

pinkcarpet · 14/09/2020 19:03

She has spent the whole evening cuddling it and kissing it saying I love you and holding it like a newborn. Its such a relief! She will sleep soundly tonight

That's great news. I'm so pleased for you and your DD.

ChickensMightFly · 14/09/2020 19:17

I think she is too young for this to be a learn to be responsible for your stuff lesson. I hope you manage to find her something to take the edge off her distress.

Mama1980 · 14/09/2020 19:18

Oh thank goodness! What a wonderful update.

ChickensMightFly · 14/09/2020 19:27

Oh my! That'll teach me to flick a thread open and not pay attention.
Just read all your posts op and I'm on the sofa with years rolling down my face! 😆😆
The 'thanks, I'll look up TattyRatty' was the one that cracked me. I can't read that book without getting a lump in my throat! 🥺
I still have my special cuddly safe in a drawer, my own DD has a unique blanket she took a shine to and despite being on the look out I've never found a back up, she also lost it once but we revived it the next day. So your story was very touching to me.
So glad it all ended happily.

ChickensMightFly · 14/09/2020 19:32

Tears not years. My face has already has the years rolled over it. 😆

LanternLights · 14/09/2020 19:38

That's lovely news! Glad she has been reunited. I bet she was absolutely thrilled when she saw it.Smile

lorn195 · 14/09/2020 19:40

This is fabulous news, and has brightened up what was a rubbish work day. ❤️

@pinkcarpet

WE HAVE FOUND TEDDY!!!!

Cannot begin to tell you how relieved DD is. She came home from her childminder with the biggest smile on her face ever.

Seems like all the pestering people and posting pictures everywhere did it. Although it is rather mysterious as DD "found" teddy in her bag at the end of the day with no explanation and no idea how it got in there. Teddy will now be confined to the house for the rest of her days.

This has cheered my heart today, maybe send a note or put up a poster thanking the person that helped him get home, they are only 5 and act on impulse.
BlueSuffragette · 14/09/2020 19:44

Fantastic news! Welcome home Teddy. I think a trip to the library to ready The Everywhere Bear is in order. (Teddy can wait at home and hear about it later) BearWine
