Jackie Chan
Johnny Cash
Bette Midler
Bette Davis
Keanu Reeves
Jenny Agutter
Jeremy Corbyn
Boris Johnson (nope, not my choice, he was at a dinner)

Ken1976 · 12/09/2020 06:59

David Guest and Freda Payne (band of gold)

CleanQueen123 · 12/09/2020 07:00

Only famous if you're horsey but I've had dinner with Mary and Emily King.

Those who've met Cillian Murphy, what's he like in real life???

BillywigSting · 12/09/2020 07:09

Jarvis Cocker (lovely man, even taller irl than he looks on screen)

All of the Alabama 3 (utter fucking nut jobs in the best possible way)

Peter Kay (knob)

Steven Gerrard (lovely and so is his wife)

Bono (exactly as full of himself as he seems)

The zutons (all quite pleasant except the coked up to the eyeballs front man, can't remember his name)

The mayor of my city (have a lot of time for him)

BikeRunSki · 12/09/2020 07:11

Only famous in cycling circles, but Eddy Merckx at the baggage reclaim as Las Vegas airport, and Brian Robinson in a local cafe. He’s local. We also see Ed Clancy riding from time to time, his mum lives a few miles up the road.

mellowww · 12/09/2020 07:13

Lots of our current leadership when they were only 20-ish. They were memorable for being not very nice. Like bulldozers. Utterly convinced of their own rightness and not interested in anyone else's opinion. ...

Ted Hughes. Gruff and amazing. Real charisma.

Knightrider was next to me buying a coffee in a private club. He was very tall and strangely thin. Very American. And trying not to be noticed.

Isn Botham. Also very tall. Strong energy.

And quite a lot more. They all seem smaller and a bit crumpled in real life. Apart from the tall ones who, as noted above, seem like giants.

Quite often people think I'm famous. I just wink enigmatically and sail on by.

CleanQueen123 · 12/09/2020 07:18

Oh and Jeremy Vine and all of the Eggheads. I was on Eggheads and then worked with two of them as they hosted quizzes for the charity I worked for.

debjani · 12/09/2020 08:08

I worked in radio about 25 years ago and shared an office with Michael Rosen -(he was cheerful & energetic.
I also worked with Robert Lindsay (luvvie in a bad way) and Martin Jarvis & his wife (both lovely).
Met Carrie Gracie briefly then too - she seemed calm and purposeful.
Queen Mother came to my university - she looked 20 years younger than she was and spoke to someone standing next to me - she was poised and relaxed

rosesandroses11 · 12/09/2020 08:16

Harry Styles. It was a few months after X factor and before One Direction properly launched. He was walking in a city centre with another band mate (can't remember who). Only me and and and lady recognised him so she struck up conversation with him. He was very friendly and chatty.

CFerdotcom · 12/09/2020 08:42

Paolo Nutini, really sweet guy.
Noel Gallagher, was nicer than his persona would have you believe.
Sam Heughan, just fucking beautiful, inside and out.
Princess Anne, always professional, love her.

mummyhat · 12/09/2020 08:55

I’ve met Adele.

And Oasis before they were famous (advised Noel not to name the band something you’d call a spa or a dentistry franchiseBlush)

Tim Peake

Jack Whitehall’s grandma, was hilarious

Aglet · 12/09/2020 09:01

Val Doonican!

Aglet · 12/09/2020 09:47

Before I ever knew James Martin was a dickhead, I couldn't stand the sight of him. Women's intuition?

Iwouldgoouttonight73 · 12/09/2020 10:19

Jimmy Savile

Itswritteninthestars · 12/09/2020 10:44

@CountreeGurl Where would one hang out to meet the most perfect man on the planet? Pray tell 😍

VillanellesOrangeCoat · 12/09/2020 10:54

@Rubyupbeat
Johnny Cash & Bette Davis?! Please tell me they were lovely!!!

quitepeeved · 12/09/2020 11:50

Met Jimmy Saville in a hospital social club when I was a student. I asked for his autograph and he licked my hand after pretending he would kiss the back of it. Yucky 😒

I don’t know about JM (Saturday Kitchen type programmes make me cringe) but someone gave me a JM glass blender 8 years ago and it’s been amazing. Mum has had 3 Kenwoods die in those years.
AdaColeman · 12/09/2020 11:59

@quitepeeved He was testing your boundaries there alright!

LakieLady · 12/09/2020 12:11

Ted Roach from The Bill. Arsehole

We were once in a pub with the actor who played DI Burnside. He was nice, and wanted to know the route of the walk we were halfway through.

Like a dick, I'd mistaken him for someone I actually knew (as I often do when I see famous people, I just assume they're someone I know and I can't remember where from), so I just said "Hi" to him when we were both standing at the bar.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 12/09/2020 12:13

Ooh I used to have the hots for DI Burnside.

I love Mary King. She was such an icon when I was growing up. She always came across as lovely and with a steely determination.
LakieLady · 12/09/2020 12:21

For older readers, Arthur "God of Hellfire" Brown lives near me. He's really nice, chatty and mild-mannered.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/09/2020 12:23

Prince Charles.

He was lovely. No airs and graces, treated me like an equal. His staff were very pompous though.

eatsleepread · 12/09/2020 12:24

Paolo Nutini is a family friend, and regularly found round my auntie's house.
He's lovely. Fame hasn't changed him at all, and he still has all the same pals.
