DB used to have a few pints in the theatre bar he worked in one summer, with Bill Nighy (before he had hit the big time). Said he was really funny, kind, down to earth and easy to talk to.
I used to live next door to the actress Sheila Mercier (who was Annie Sugden in Emmerdale). She often had the cast round for meals, parties, drinks etc. There was a low fence between our gardens. One evening I nipped into the garden to get the washing in only to find loads of cast members milling around next door all holding drinks and chatting. I had ancient leggings and a sweatshirt with bleach stains on and a face mask on 🙈. The embarrassment. I cheerily said a quick hi, grabbed the washing off the line as fast as I could and dashed back inside. They were all very smiley and said hi back. I was also once asked if I could call in to zip up Sheila Merciers evening dress before she went to a do because her husband wouldn’t be in to do it. Her husband was a sweetie too. Always very polite and friendly.
George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon at a press junket for a film. Witty, funny, charming and very considerate to all the press and signed autographs and chatted and took pics with fans outside. I thought they were all as good looking as they were on screen. No idea what they’d be like if they weren’t plugging a film and obviously on best behaviour though.
Jimmy Saville - as grim as you’d imagine. Would hold court and be the centre of attention whenever i saw him in any of the cafes near where he (and unfortunately, we) lived and was absolutely unable to pass up on any opportunity to speak at every woman he encountered from babies through to old ladies. Vile, sleezy and grubby looking along with his little group of equally vile, sleezy, grubby looking friends.
