That this is giving me the rage

I’ve posted about this before but now the roof is on it’s really starting to annoy me. It’s going to be a fucking wood workshop along with all the noise & dust that goes with it 😡

Ie informed the council - who are hot to look into the planning permission aspect.

In the meantime has anyone any ideas how we can cover this up so it’s not a complete eyesore?

Ideally nothing planted as we got rid of grass & plants last year to give us a low maintenance garden. The sun is overhead most of the day so I don’t think it will block our light.

And the trampoline didn’t used to be there - it was there temporarily but we’ve left it there because I want to annoy them - I know I’m being petty 😜

If you “got rid of grass and plants” from your garden there is no helping you, tbh. Your neighbours are probably Building that trying to hide your hideous sterile plastic ‘garden‘. Plastic turf needs to be outlawed. Why not build a 6ft concrete wall?! That’s the sort of thing you clearly like. Confused

LST · 10/09/2020 14:15

@mistymonday people with disabilities exist you know. Not that decided to have plastic grass has anything to do with anyone else in their own yard

GhostsInSnow · 10/09/2020 14:45

OP I get it. My neighbour has built a wooden shed type structure all along the boundary and finished it off with a lovely bright blue tarpaulin roof. Whilst it doesn't block any views it looks hideous and the fact they sit in it at night burning rubbish and with music on full whack doesn't help. I suspect at some point their fondness for out of control fires will deal with the situation.

I became a bit obsessed with it and ways to hide it. It was DH who talked me down in the end and he was right. It's easy to get fixated on this crap.

I've planted clumping bamboo along the fence line along with a couple of trees, one of which is a golden elm, who's leaves are so beautifully bright your eye is drawn to that before the structure.

You need something to distract, bright planting in front of it as well as your bamboo etc to hide it. You could grow a virginia creeper up that fence that turns bright red in the autumn and again would distract from it.

stardance · 10/09/2020 17:32

My neighbours have a massive 'shed' (more of a summer house really, they have sofas and a television in there) like that- bigger actually, plus they recently extended the roof to make a sort of canopy- it's the size of the shed again and almost covers the whole garden. I can't say it's ever bothered me. They regularly have lots of visitors but only occasionally disturb us with their noise.

OhioOhioOhio · 10/09/2020 17:36

I don't see the problem either.

Cantfindafreeusername · 10/09/2020 17:39

.....Perhaps they are trying to block out your hideously high decking and high bouncing child that means you now overlook their garden?

FelicisNox · 10/09/2020 17:48

You can literally only see a small amount of roof...... your trampoline is far more intrusive: right next to the fence looking into their garden, really?

You need to give your head a wobble.

oakleaffy · 10/09/2020 17:51

Actually, the second pic OP posted of the shed...the roof looks dreadful.
He should have used Cedar Shingles, much easier on the eye...Looks like he has used El Cheapo corrugated plastic.

MumMRM · 10/09/2020 17:52

You can hardly see it and how do you know what it is to be used for?

oakleaffy · 10/09/2020 17:52

Look at OP's other pic. I was more sympathetic when I saw it.

Looks jerry built.

MuffinDoing · 10/09/2020 17:54

Well done op for keeping a sense of perspective on all the feedback on here, AIBU can be unnecessarily brutal. I thought you were making a fuss over nothing from the 1st pic but the second pic from the bedroom window shows how huge (and ugly) it is. All you can do is hope he does not have planning permission, which given the size of it I very much doubt he does

Gailplatt95 · 10/09/2020 17:54

Feel your pain OP my neighbours have a bar and the side up against my fence is an old garage door, right fucking eyesore! I’m also thinking of ways to make it look a bit less shit but....they like to open it in summer for air flow so I’m basically stuck with the monstrosity!

OhioOhioOhio · 10/09/2020 17:57

Yeah the second lot of pictures would annoy me too.

@1starwars2

Gardens without any plants make me sad, maybe that's how your neighbour feels when he looks out his window at your garden. Live and let live!

Mischance · 10/09/2020 18:10

Believe me it is not worth falling out with neighbours over. Being on bad terms with neighbours is a long term debilitating nightmare, and worth tolerating a bit of visible wooden shed to avoid.

If it becomes very noisy/dusty that needs to be tackled - with tact and good manners if you value your sanity.

Velvetlover65 · 10/09/2020 18:15

I looked at the photo before reading, didnt even notice the roof. I thought the post was going to about having no sides on the trampoline. Then i read and had to look again, i dont see the problem

DancingInTheGarden · 10/09/2020 18:16

@BonnieMcflurry did your neighbour really lift your fence and attach lights in YOUR GARDEN o your wall??
Cheeky fecker!!
Can't you just cut the wire with a pair of wire cutters? (insulated of course) "Oops I was trimming my garden"

altiara · 10/09/2020 18:31

Second pic makes it look like the neighbour has filled his garden with an enormous shed.
The first pic did look like it was probably within planning rules.
I’d still go with trellis in an attempt to disguise it.

exaltedwombat · 10/09/2020 18:32

Difficult to argue against anything that might provide employment or income in these lockdown days. Even if it is in our back yard.

Thesuzle · 10/09/2020 18:34

Beware, I can hear a neighbours high pitched electric saws etc from waaay down the road.
It may be his hobby but then become a business.

Catwaving · 10/09/2020 18:38

Your 'garden' looks awful really and totally lifeless
You may as well just concrete the whole thing

That shed next door is totally innocuous I'd say

Catwaving · 10/09/2020 18:47

Actually what I wrote is harsh, scrap that, sorry

oakleaffy · 10/09/2020 18:48

@PatriciaPerch

god i have not heard the term jerry built since my grandad was alive! over 25 years ago. I was back in their lounge :o
I have just read some WW1 articles...It means ''shoddily built''...and hailed from the 1860's. {Nothing to do with Germans }
NameAnon101 · 10/09/2020 18:49

Perhaps they were fed up of your kids bouncing and looking over their fence.

It's hardly a huge eyesore.

If it really bothers you that much then get a 'fence' of trees or something to put on top of the fence you've already got. 🤷🏼‍♀️
