That this is giving me the rage

I’ve posted about this before but now the roof is on it’s really starting to annoy me. It’s going to be a fucking wood workshop along with all the noise & dust that goes with it 😡

Ie informed the council - who are hot to look into the planning permission aspect.

In the meantime has anyone any ideas how we can cover this up so it’s not a complete eyesore?

Ideally nothing planted as we got rid of grass & plants last year to give us a low maintenance garden. The sun is overhead most of the day so I don’t think it will block our light.

And the trampoline didn’t used to be there - it was there temporarily but we’ve left it there because I want to annoy them - I know I’m being petty 😜

This isn’t related to COVID - he’s had a shed for years & stores all his wood etc in his conservatory. The neighbours all around have been pissed off with him for years for all his sawing and drilling etc but we can’t do anything about it as it’s within the guidelines- funnily enough I am the only one that wasn’t really bothered about the noise.
This however, could be worse..... or better time will tell.

Thanks for clarifying, OP. I wasn't necessarily thinking that that was the most likely scenario, but in the wider debate on this topic, it's not beyond the bounds of possibility.

Power tools can be very annoying and you'd hope people wouldn't use them relentlessly; then again, babies and small children can be extremely noisy and stop child-free neighbours from sleeping properly, but unfortunately, it's just part of living in close proximity to other people and not illegal.

CloudPop · 09/09/2020 17:08

It's an absolute eyesore, I'll give you that.

MsEllany · 09/09/2020 17:10

@1starwars2

Gardens without any plants make me sad, maybe that's how your neighbour feels when he looks out his window at your garden. Live and let live!
How do you know the neighbours garden isn’t completely concreted? That was a snarky comment for no good reason.

Even more snarky having seen OP’s second pic which shows the neighbours have no greenery in their garden!

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2020 18:45

Op, do you think if you weren’t peering out from behind your curtains and being all ragey about your neighbours perfectly innocuous shed, you might have remembered to focus on your own garden, you know. Plant your wild flowers, Hoover the grass, move the eye sore trampoline, that kind of thing?

Clymene · 09/09/2020 18:53

That's not a garden, it's a car park. You turned your outdoor green space into a dead zone. Sad

billy1966 · 09/09/2020 20:05

"Innocuous shed". ...how hilarious.

positivelynegative · 09/09/2020 20:18

It’s not just a shed though is it? It’s disproportionately large for the plot.

GnomeDePlume · 10/09/2020 06:46

It's the problem of houses with small gardens. You cant control what happens in their garden any more than they can control what goes on in yours.

Woodworking can be noisy and annoying but so can children bouncing on a trampoline.

I dont see anything in the OP's posts which say this is going to be a commercial workshop. If anything moving his woodworking hobby into a workshop might be better for OP as it will help to contain the dust & noise.

VeganCow · 10/09/2020 08:15

Someone suggested bamboo in pots, great idea. Or some other upright but not spreading plants in tubs.maybe something like this just in front of the shed

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/09/2020 08:27

Read the thread VeganCow OP got rid of her plants because they were untidy. Sad, really.

ShalomToYouJackie · 10/09/2020 08:42

In my previous house, the next door neighbour had a giant shed he did woodworking stuff in with power tools and it drove me mad. He'd start at 7:30am.

He never actually seemed to do anything with it, he was just chopping planks of wood in half. It got worse during lock down and was all day every day so I can definitely understand your worry.

Keep a noise log and contact your council if it's noisy all the time but it's very occasional then I'd leave it.

Plants and trelis to cover up the building and then forget about it

ShalomToYouJackie · 10/09/2020 08:46

@ChardonnaysPetDragon the OP didn't say that she got rid of plants because they were untidy?

she said she thinks the garden is bare and she needs something low maintenence and that she wanted something she could plant into pots because she doesn't have time to look after it properly.

Thanks for all the constructive posts - it has made me think that maybe I’m getting worked up over nothing, so it’s been good for that & I’ve some great ideas for shielding it from view, so again - thank you.

As for all the other keyboard warriors commenting on my lack of plants, grass etc & the rude people who made personal comments about me - can I just say it’s water off a ducks back to me & I’m not taking any of it personally. However, there are a lot of fragile people out there with various degrees of mental health issues (you may be one of them!) so you need to be aware of the affects that your (sometimes) nasty comments can have on people.

Can I ask you please to be kind & consider the effects your comments may have to others - it’s really not that hard to be nice. Maybe use the mantra that if you haven’t got anything nice to say don’t say it!

That 'shed' is a fucking ugly eyesore, you have my sympathy OP, no way would I want that to be my view. Hope you get somewhere with the Council, one other thing to try have you looked at the property Deeds to see if there are any restrictive covenants that might go in your favour?

Agree.

Extraordinary how some people would happily live with that view.🤷‍♀️

It's like something out of "Fools and Horses" 🙄🤣

itbemay1 · 10/09/2020 12:05

Trellis with some low maintenance ivy you won't notice it in a few months

yecannyshoveyergranny · 10/09/2020 12:52

I like your deck op.

Plmoknijb123 · 10/09/2020 13:29

@justlliloleme agree some of the comments on this thread are unnecessary and nasty. People should be better.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/09/2020 13:41

OP is making disparaging comments about next door’s garden being concreted over, while conveniently forgetting hers is plastic. Maybe she should try being kind to the neighbours and to the environment.

NannyPear · 10/09/2020 13:58

I said YABU but after the second photo I don't think you are. I wouldn't be too chuffed trying to relax in my garden next to that! It is definitely an eyesore. He's really not left any room in his garden at all has he?!

justlliloleme · 10/09/2020 13:59

I didn’t make any disparaging comments I said it was completely concreted - which I couldn’t care less about.

I like my garden, I don’t care if you don’t, you don’t have to like it, it’s not yours.

Try being nice 👍🏻
