Schools aren’t closing in local lockdowns, as many other aren’t closing either. And you can work across areas in lockdown. I think the plan is many other things will close before schools do, the hope is they can stay open as long as possible. Problem is if too many staff go off sick/self isolating they will have to close temporarily.

IndieTara · 06/09/2020 23:36

The school my friends 14 yr old goes to sent out a letter Friday saying the whole year needed to quarantine for 2 weeks as there'd been a confirmed Covid case in her year. They only went back Thursday !

BlippiToys · 06/09/2020 23:37

Our whole school IS closed.

5 teachers have been Confirmed

TheOrigBrave · 06/09/2020 23:38

Ds2's secondary is closed tomorrow for a deep clean as 5 staff have tested +ve.
Bubbles have burst so some are self isolating.

2 days it was open (though teachers there earlier).

We will hear tomorrow if it re-open on Tuesday.

I could cry. I'm a lone parent working full time.

Treesofwood · 06/09/2020 23:39

Five teachers confirmed in one school two days after opening? Are they actually ill or have they screened all staff? They can't have caught it from kids

guilttripjourno · 06/09/2020 23:39

Is this on Hancock's constituency

Procrastination4 · 06/09/2020 23:40

Restaurants and pubs should not be held hostage to schools. Close individual schools/classes if necessary but let restauranteurs and publicans earn a living. Why should they be punished for the lack of responsibility shown by parents? (Organising play dates and parties, etc.) I’m a teacher, do NOT want the farce that is “distance learning” taking place again, do not w as my schools shut, but don’t think businesses should suffer to keep schools open.

MarshaBradyo · 06/09/2020 23:40

All these year groups closing on one case. Data is needed on how many get it. It could be disproportionate.

TheOrigBrave · 06/09/2020 23:41

I wonder if we are same school? Does it begin with S?
MarshaBradyo · 06/09/2020 23:41

I don’t think pubs etc should close either. They are mostly mitigating well enough to not make the economic damage worth it.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/09/2020 23:42

3 days back, one positive case, number of staff and pupils isolating here.

TheOrigBrave · 06/09/2020 23:43

There was 1 +ve on Friday so I presume they brought it in with them from outside, then close contacts (the other teachers) tested, and have just had results. Waiting for 2 more.
Procrastination4 · 06/09/2020 23:43

Sorry, that was a response to second post about pubs and restaurants shutting first. As for the gobbledygook in the second last line-apologies!

TheOrigBrave · 06/09/2020 23:44

Yup.
ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 06/09/2020 23:44

Yes

Sarahandco · 06/09/2020 23:46

No, I think year groups will be sent home from time to time - but I believe the worst is over now.

I read earlier that although there are growing cases, people are not as severely ill - the theory was that people are being infected with lower doses due to social distancing and masks etc which sounds a bit like being vaccinated?

JessePinkmanYo · 06/09/2020 23:47

Ah that S school in Hancock constituency is up the road from me. waves to fellow locals Keep safe

Hello! [waves back]
Gancanny · 06/09/2020 23:49

All over FB tonight that a primary school local to me has a confirmed case so all of year one have to self-isolate for 14 days.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 06/09/2020 23:56

It's going to be in - out - in - out (hokey cokey) as cases appear.
I wouldn't plan on a full year's education for any state educated child.

Torvean32 · 07/09/2020 00:08

No i cant see all schools being closed. I live in a large city we've been open almost 3 weeks with no outbreaks and no closures. It shows it can be done.

I think this year ppl need to have the flu vaccine ( if medically appropriate) even if it means paying for it.

wafflyversatile · 07/09/2020 00:11

I think the govt will be determined not to close schools til half term. Individual schools will be left to make difficult decisions themselves- and take the shit for it.

Chloemol · 07/09/2020 00:12

Partial closures of individual schools as bubbles have to isolate not convinced all schools will close again

Clumsyvolcano · 07/09/2020 00:12

Yes, I think it’s possible but hope they close pubs first.

I understand that pub owners need to make a living but let’s face it, pubs were never a wise idea because people aren’t sensible when they’ve had a drink.

I’m worried about how it’s all going to pan out with universities given that some young students will probably not take care when they’ve had their parties or been out on student nights, and there’s thousands moving from all over the country. 🤔

walker1891 · 07/09/2020 00:15

Mine will probably close this week, 3 days in and only one bubble left.
