Do people think schools will have to close again

Jut curious.

OP posts:

I think the school reopening is so poorly conceived that we will be lucky to get 6 weeks before lockdown starts again.

Dee1975 · 06/09/2020 23:03

Yes and no. I don’t think nationwide. But ‘bubbles’ may be sent home for x time due to children or staff with symptoms. Or maybe local lockdowns. So I’m fully prepped children being sent home and off for a period of time but don’t believe there will be a nationwide lockdown.

Augustbreeze · 06/09/2020 23:06

The government have stated that they only intend to close schools after everything else has been closed.

However if multiple teachers are sick/isolating/awaiting tests it would be impossible to keep schools open.

MrsR87 · 06/09/2020 23:08

I’m a teacher and have been in school last week. From what I saw, I would fully expect closures to some degree but not on the scale of March-July. I think we will ultimately end up on a model where pupils are in for some days and at home for others to allow for greater social distancing.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/09/2020 23:08

I think a national shutdown is unlikely until Nov/Dec and perhaps not even then. But I can see a situation where the majority of schools are shut, at least in part, happening before then.

blue25 · 06/09/2020 23:09

Yes. Expecting imminent lockdown.

ekidmxcl · 06/09/2020 23:09

I think schools will have to close on a case by case basis and/or close bubbles.

Other than that, they will probably stay open unless the hospitals start filling up with covid patients.

Polkasquare · 06/09/2020 23:10

If enough staff get ill they'll have to close.

But didn't the government say that the children are more likely to catch the virus at home than at school?

Shizzlestix · 06/09/2020 23:11

All it will take is one case per year group for the whole place to go down again.

sunshineandshowers21 · 06/09/2020 23:11

i can’t see all schools being closed again, but it’s possible schools in areas with more cases will be shut. i’m hoping for the best but preparing for the worst by putting together work packs for my two boys in case of closures.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/09/2020 23:13

Yes Polka but that was based on research they did in June/July, when most year groups weren’t in school and class sizes were limited to 15. It’s debatable how much that applies to the current school return.

BoomBoomsCousin · 06/09/2020 23:13

May be some in local shutdowns. But on the whole I think they’ll close other things before a nationwide shut down of schools again. The cost overtime of shutting schools is likely a lot higher than shutting businesses.

Augustbreeze · 06/09/2020 23:16

Government have Tiers of action when risk is increasing in a certain area. The one before closure is a rota system, fortnight in fortnight at home, I think.

BlippiToys · 06/09/2020 23:17

Our secondary school has been open 2 days and 5 teachers have been diagnosed with Covid - 19.

Closed now

Polkasquare · 06/09/2020 23:20

Yes I agree with you, sorry, was trying to be sarcastic!
nevernotstruggling · 06/09/2020 23:20

No. Locally yes of course when it's needed. I don't think national lockdown of anything will happen again it's not economically viable

ConiferGate · 06/09/2020 23:22

Yes they’ll close, especially because some seem to be taking unnecessary risks with things like big assemblies, mixed after school clubs, and school transport on top of large bubbles,

guilttripjourno · 06/09/2020 23:22

I have to work, so no.

tiredanddangerous · 06/09/2020 23:22

Yes I think so. I think we might make it through to half term but will be closed again after.

guilttripjourno · 06/09/2020 23:23

Could you please give me an example where this has been implemented. Bolton has high cases so surely there

Dodie66 · 06/09/2020 23:25

No cases are rising, 1940 friday, 1813 yesterday and a high jump today to 2998,

GinDrinker00 · 06/09/2020 23:28

3000 cases and 2 deaths. I sincerely hope they don’t. At least close the damn pubs first!

ineedaholidaynow · 06/09/2020 23:28

Don’t think Tier 2 has been implemented in schools anywhere yet.

I think rotas in Secondary schools may have to be introduced more widely.

Someone above mentioned school transport. If the Government expect all pupils in there isn’t much anyone can do about school transport. DS gets a school bus, it is full as usual, only difference is that all pupils where masks.

SoManyActivities · 06/09/2020 23:32

This is probably a really dumb question but in a 'local lockdown' would the schools in that area shut as well? I am assuming so?

Also, if you lived in a local lockdown area but worked in a school in a different area would you still be allowed to go to work? Again, I assume so as people worked in schools at the height of lockdown but I'm not sure!

SE13Mummy · 06/09/2020 23:34

A primary and secondary in Lewisham have announced they can't open in full tomorrow as a staff member has tested positive. They are part of the same all-through school but are a few streets apart from each other.
