For thinking my neighbours should not be buying her dog birthday presents ?

I love animals , I really do. I had a dog and one day I hope to have another, so it's not that I don't understand animals are part of a family. They are.

But yesterday was. my neighbours dogs birthday. She's put it on Facebook. The dog was given wrapped gifts. A toy and some edible treats, as far as I can see.

She has a family, so not child substitutes. She treats her dogs well and isn't short of money so it's not as if she's saving up.

She's always celebrated the dogs' birthdays, there's more than one!

But this must be unusual. What is the point?

Are you worried that she won’t have enough money to buy you a present after she’s bought the dog one? 😂😂

Nottobesoldseparately · 06/09/2020 19:56

My dog gets wrapped presents at Christmas, from me and other people as it happens.

Keeps him occupied for a bit and why should he miss out on all the fun??

He also gets something most times I do a food shop or a home bargains run. Basically he's spoilt bloody rotten....as he should be.
You don't get a pet and then deprive them!

Addicted89 · 06/09/2020 19:58

We did the same for our dog on her birthday, we bought her a couple of toys and a treat, wrapped them up and let her open them in the garden.
She also get a Christmas present and one of the grandparents.
We also have a baby.
Dogs are part of the family, why wouldn’t you treat them like one?

Bunkumum · 06/09/2020 19:58

My dog has a birthday party and wears a birthday crown...

CSIblonde · 06/09/2020 20:06

None of your business & vey judgey. Pets are family. It's a bit of fun. My girl gets presents, just because & I love watching her with a new toy . I would think what a lovely woman of I'd send that, not "she shouldn't".

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 07/09/2020 09:35

@SummerPoppies - you beat e on the easter egg - I once used gelatine and moulded tuna in an egg shaped mould, but she wasn't very keen, so didn't bother again.

Marzipan12 · 07/09/2020 10:03

None of your business. When I was a kid our dogs got wrapped treats at Christmas, they loved ripping them open. Mind our own.

seayork2020 · 07/09/2020 10:19

Although i am not a pet person I do love cats but I genuinely thought it was normal to buy pets presents as in a new toy, posh food not an iron or something

Mayorquimby2 · 07/09/2020 10:22

Gotcha day, birthday, Christmas all warrant presents for my dog.

Dogs 🙌🙌🙌🙌

readingismycardio · 07/09/2020 10:27

My cat gets presents for Christmas. What's your problem, exactly?Grin

Poutintrout · 07/09/2020 11:12

I'm not sure why you care. It makes her and presumably her dog happy, try being happy that they're happy.

My dog gets wrapped presents in his Christmas stocking. I have also started doing an Easter treat hunt in the garden too complete with markers. I may have also been known to bake them a cake. I give not one shit what anyone thinks. I love my dog.

Crabeyes · 07/09/2020 11:16

Hope that dog got a cake as well.

I'm a cake maker and I've just had an order for a dogs birthday. The customer said the dog gets a tiny bit and all the adults will eat the rest! 😂 he's also a rescue so his birthday is sometime in September 😂

CuntyMcBollocks · 07/09/2020 11:25

What's it got to do with you? Is she trying to force you to buy her dog a present? No. It has no bearing on your life so I don't understand why you seem so worked up about it. If its not hurting anyone, then leave them be.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 07/09/2020 11:28

None of your business. Personally I dont do birthday or Christmas presents for our pets but I did when the DC were small because they wanted to buy the cats presents. The kids enjoyed choosing some tat for the cats to play with and had fun on Christmas morning "helping" the cats unwrap the presents.

It doesn't harm anyone, so why do you care?

Ilovechinese · 07/09/2020 11:57

It's none if your business, she obviously loves her dogs and also has the mindy to do it so why us it any if your concern? How about worry about people who abuse or neglect their pets instead?

Micsam89 · 07/09/2020 12:03

I don't wrap them, but we buy our dogs birthday and Christmas presents, and we buy my parents dog presents too. My parents also buy their grand-dogs Christmas presents. Our dogs are our babies, but even if we did have human babies, we would still buy them gifts. It's fun and they enjoy it even if they don't know the reason.

PhilSwagielka · 07/09/2020 21:13

It's none of your business. Let people enjoy things. At least she's not kicking the dog up and down the garden. I'm sure the kids think it's fun too.

I don't celebrate my cat's birthday but that's because I don't know when it is. When he becomes official, though (he's still on probation from the cat home, COVID has ballsed everything up), I'm going to get him all the treats. He was abused by previous owners and he needs love.

PhilSwagielka · 07/09/2020 21:17

@liverbird10

I'd actually like to thank the OP for this thread! Without it I'd never have heard all these great pet birthday stories. Defo found my people here. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to prepare a half chicken for the cats.
Are you a Liverpool fan by any chance? I ask cos I saw a picture of a beautiful fluffy cat recently named after Mo Salah, some prick shot him in the face but he survived.
PhilSwagielka · 07/09/2020 21:19

@heartsonacake

YANBU. I think there’s something wrong; she’s clearly lacking something in her life to be acting like this.

It’s an animal. A pet, yes, but that’s all, and they should be treated as a pet should be; not by owners pretending it’s another child.

You are such a bundle of joy.
Sunshineandsparkle · 07/09/2020 21:24

We always do that too. They’re part of the family!!

Jpowe · 07/09/2020 21:26

We buy our dog birthday and Christmas presents 😀 no harm in it

copperoliver · 07/09/2020 21:29

We give our dogs presents for birthdays and Christmas, why not everyone else gets them on these days. They're part of the family and are treated so.

Your neighbour could be doing worse things.
Be glad that's all she's up to. X

paddingtonbearsmarmalade · 07/09/2020 21:32

My aunts buy each other’s dogs/cats Christmas presents Grin

joangray38 · 07/09/2020 21:33

I can go one better - pre Covid when I went on holiday I always brought my cat a present back! His fav from London used to be from Harrods pet store! He would sit by my suitcase and wait for me to unpack his little green bag full of presents.

Elphame · 07/09/2020 21:36

Oh dear - I made sardine cupcakes for my dog for his birthday which he shared with his best doggy friend.
