I'm just asking as DH was watching A Hard Days Night. I'll always love Johns smile Blush

Paul, without a doubt. He is lovely, as well as being the most talented.

DGRossetti · 04/09/2020 19:06

Probably George. Quite like Paul, but he is known for being tight, which is hard to excuse with his wealth.

I have no problem with the idea that two lads bought up in post war Liverpool might have developed a very frugal attitude to money.

LizB62A · 04/09/2020 19:14

George

I've never liked Paul, I don't know why, I just feel there's something really bad there somewhere..... Call it my spidey sense....

cariadlet · 04/09/2020 19:25

DP used to work at Paul's place at Rye and always said he was friendly. I've heard from a couple of other people from the area that him and Linda were very down to earth and unshowbizzy parents (eg attending the usual events at their children's local primary, queuing up for their cup of tea with all the other parents etc).

Somebody said about him being tight but the staff parties were good (and very family friendly).

I only mentioned Paul being allegedly a bit tight. No idea about the others.

There’s a nice clip on YouTube where Ringo is talking about the last time he saw George. I think those two were very close.

I think George is my favourite, but Ringo probably did the best interviews. John and Paul i like their musical talent but I wouldn’t want to go for a beer with them.

DioneTheDiabolist · 04/09/2020 19:44

and I really cannot abide "Imagine" - such an obvious Oasis ripoff I'm surprised lawyers weren't involved.

Totes agree with you there @DGRossetti.

Agree with the PP's assessment of the Beatles as the most overrated band in the history of pop. But of all of them I warm to Paul the least. Despite the fact that he's become a national institution and criticising him is on a par with criticising the NHS, I get the impression that behind that jovial exterior is a gargantuan ego and a personality with an 'edge' to it.

They can't even compete with The Doors, who were IMO hugely underrated in the UK. Also preferred Hendrix and early Mac (talking of which, wasn't it Pattie Boyd's sister who was once married to Mick Fleetwood?)

foxtiger · 04/09/2020 19:45

I know none of them are/were angels, but George for me just because I think he made the most interesting music.

GrouchyKiwi · 04/09/2020 19:51

George as he wrote their two best songs (Something and In My Life).

TwiggyTwogs · 04/09/2020 19:52

George definitely made the best songs.

Ringo. Because drummers 😍 and also Thomas the Tank Engine

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/09/2020 20:08

@GrouchyKiwi George didn't write In My Life, that was one of John's.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/09/2020 20:11

George wrote some great songs but a few dreadful ones too.

I like Paul's songs the least to be honest, he wrote some great ones but a lot of them are so twee. (Ob La Di Ob La Da) Although I think his solo career was the strongest.

GrouchyKiwi · 04/09/2020 20:11

@Waxonwaxoff0 Well huh. I wonder why I thought that? Thanks for the correction.

malificent7 · 04/09/2020 20:12

Paul...my mum loved hom. I guess John was the coolest bit Paul seems more relatable somehow. Don't know Ringo and George enough.

Makinglists · 04/09/2020 20:13

Flawed character...but John.
When I was a kid it was Ringo. I remember being totally shocked by John's death (I was 10)....I was really into the Beatles as a kid.

drigon · 04/09/2020 20:28

@Fucket, yes, I've seen that clip before a d it made me cry too. They obviously were good friends at the end of George's life, whatever went on before with the two of them. So, I will say George is my favourite one.
Definitely not John, though! I saw another documentary where Julian Lennon said something to the effect that his father may have preached Peace and Love to the world, but didn't extend that to his own family. Talk about bitter!

Jojoanna · 04/09/2020 20:31

George then Paul

Band on the run and Live and Let die are pretty good.

Pilcrow · 04/09/2020 23:36

(talking of which, wasn't it Pattie Boyd's sister who was once married to Mick Fleetwood?)

Yes, she was. There was a documentary on Sky last week about the Beatles and Apple, and Jennie Boyd was on it. Lots of former Apple staff were. It was quite an interesting watch (albeit Americanised and with a rather pompous voiceover by Peter Coyote).

BigBlondeBimbo · 04/09/2020 23:44

George ❤

Imagine" - such an obvious Oasis ripoff I'm surprised lawyers weren't involved.

I didn’t know about this. Which Oasis track please?

sorryforswearing · 05/09/2020 00:03

Always thought Paul was a bit arrogant.
George was my favourite.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 05/09/2020 00:05

I like Paul I think often he was overshadowed by John but he has written some great songs and their best songs were written together and you can hear each other’s influence

I think John was pretentious from the very start - he wasn’t the working class lad from Liverpool as he claimed to be. An interview with Paul and George said they thought John was posh compared to their families
