Ms Krug, a Jewish woman form Kansa purported to be a Black woman and was a Professor of AfricanAmerica Hostory at George Washington University . Teaching classes and supervision grad and undergrad students in African American History

She was also an activist who posted and participated in rallies and events as Jessica La Bombalera. Demonstrating against the gentrification of East Harlem, proclaiming it to be her neighbourhood

Essentially she has gaslight, lied and assumed an identity that is not hers. In doing so,other candidates were denied opportunities, remuneration. She has assumed an identity and heritage that was not hers to assume

Exposed by a student who had the courage to confide in other teaching staff

@PrincessZog what speaks volumes is you trying to misconstrue and add a negative connotation to my op where there is none. Nadda

I have factually represented this event. In common with most other reports I have noted how she defines her upbringing As did the Guardian article

The volumes being spoken are you are the erroneous knee jerk presumption of ill will from myself

Of course I’ll not change your pov, and I expect you’ll come back to further decry my post and the apparent volumes it speaks

I really don’t think OP is being anti-Semitic.

As I and other posters have said, repeatedly, her Jewishness is of relevance not just because Jews are part of an ethnoreligious group and that is how Krug identifies but specifically because she is using her Jewishness as part of her narrative of justifying her behaviour.

Headline is: white woman pretended to be black
More detailed summary is: woman who felt ostracised as a Jew by white community tried to reinvent herself as a black woman and assimilate within the black community.

annabel85 · 04/09/2020 17:45

I see on Twitter the consensus is "This just proves how privileged black people are that white people are pretending to be black to get positive discrimination in their favour".

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 17:47

Yes I imagine Ms Krug felt other in her own upbringing and community and somewhere in time she has constructed a new life, new identity, new experience

She alluded to mental health and trauma. I don’t know enough about that to comment.

Deathgrip · 04/09/2020 17:48

Krug’s own words: “To an escalating degree over my adult life, I have eschewed my lived experience as a white Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim”

nachthexe · 04/09/2020 17:49

Aaaaaaand this is where we are, where you can’t even mention what someone self identified as IN PRINT, even when self identification is the literal subject of the discussion.
It is not anti-Semitic. Start a fecking thread about Julia Salazar if you wish. This one is about Jessica Krug, who CHOSE to highlight her Jewishness in a statement about race appropriation.
Stop projecting. It is fine to use the word ‘Jewish’ and it is relevant because Jessica chose to make it relevant.
(And are you kidding that Christian or Methodist or Catholic wouldn’t have been used? That’s a bigger stick in this context than Jewish! )

DeaconBoo · 04/09/2020 17:50

Sheep my perception of what description is "relevant" doesn't matter, i would quote the person's description of themself regardless, yes. If "I was brought up as a white Disney-tshirt wearing woman" is what the person in question leads their article with then it'd be an odd thing to deliberately leave out when quoting.

ListeningQuietly · 04/09/2020 17:53

FWIW Rachel Dolezal's parents were Christian nutjobs Grin

Catcoffeecake · 04/09/2020 17:53

Totally agree with MouthBreathingRage
Can't see the difference. But so many people violently disagree. Can be very hard to say that you're gender-critical. I've had family members unfriend me on Facebook!

RedRumTheHorse · 04/09/2020 17:54

@TheNewLook race is assigned by the society you are in and is based on what you look like. So is a social construct.

Ethnic group is based on your genotype.

The reason she passed as black is because in the US they ignore the fact that most people, particularly those whose ancestors have been in the US for centuries regardless of how they got there, have mixed ancestry. They simply claim they are black or white.

randomer · 04/09/2020 17:56

People pretend to be all sorts of things they are not. I find it profoundly depressing.

And all others querying the composition of my op

I I felt it relevant to inc that Ms Krug is white and Jewish because that’s her upbringing and it is what she identifies as in her apology. She reported that’s her background

It’s relevant because she purported to have a different upbringing and presented a wholly different narrative in her her online presence and It is how she represented herself felt it relevant to inc that Ms Krug is white and Jewish because that’s her upbringing and it is what she identifies as in her apology. Ms Krug published an online apology and again she referenced being White and Jewish[/quote]
I beg your bloody pardon...i haven’t queried anything

I was agreeing with you

You mentioned it because the krug woman did!

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 17:58

Yes I agree but not usually to such extremes.ofren people, airbrush their class or upbringing and tweak details
ms Krig took it to whole different level Clearly she invested a lot of time & effort

In that Jess la Bombalera video she claims that the New York police department was trained by the IDF, the Israeli force.
This is an unusual claim for anyone to make and does make Jessica’s actual ethnicity interesting.
The IDF was mentioned in that Morning Star article that Maxine Peake referred to, and led to Rebbba Long-Bailey’s apology for anti-Semitism.

TheNewLook · 04/09/2020 17:59

FWIW Rachel Dolezal's parents were Christian nutjobs

Can nutjob be applied to other faiths? Can you say someone is a Jewish nutjob? Or an Islamic nutjob?

ShebaShimmyShake · 04/09/2020 18:01

I don't think OP is being antisemitic, but it's a bit ignorant given that many Jews are not white, or have a relatively dark or olive complexion.

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 18:03

@RufustheSniggeringReindeer Apologies if I inadvertently included you when I was clarifying my op. I consider my My bloody pardon begged. I simply tried to explain my op

OP posts:
stairway · 04/09/2020 18:03

Maybe it’s not relevant that she is white either though. Maybe the OP should have said non black women self identified as a black woman.

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 18:06

No @ShebaShimmyShake it’s not ignorant as the person I’m referring to self identified as white and Jewish. I am not making global statements I am making a specific statement about one named individual

Ms Krug is in no way representative of anyone else, and I don’t expect people, to extrapolate anything from the op about one woman and her industrial level of misrepresentation

OP posts:
SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 18:07

Thats ok...ive calmed back down 😀

To clarify I understand completely why you mentioned krug was jewish as she used it in her mea culpa

The ‘i believe’ comment was a play on the Other posters words

Anyway its all good and i only said bloody so i was very good on the sweary words and I’m pleased with myself

ShebaShimmyShake · 04/09/2020 18:17

@SentientAndCognisant

No *@ShebaShimmyShake* it’s not ignorant as the person I’m referring to self identified as white and Jewish. I am not making global statements I am making a specific statement about one named individual

Ms Krug is in no way representative of anyone else, and I don’t expect people, to extrapolate anything from the op about one woman and her industrial level of misrepresentation

Her Judaism, if she's telling the truth this time, isn't relevant because Jews can easily be black or non-white. There are whole communities of Indian and Ethiopian Jews. The context of how you mention it here suggests that it's an exacerbating factor in appropriating black identity; ie, that it somehow makes her even less black. It doesn't. It's just not relevant either way.

Like I said, I don't think it's antisemitic, I just think it shows a degree of ignorance regarding Jewish people. Probably not a bad idea to get it out in the open for correction, as I suspect there are a lot of people who don't realise the extent of Jewish diversity.

ListeningQuietly · 04/09/2020 18:17

Yup.
Hindu, Buddhist, Wiccan you name it.

Anybody whose belief system makes them do stuff that is loopy Grin

@SentientAndCognisant

She is this week. She's clearly very confused about her identity. She might realise next week that in actual fact she identifies as a white (Jewish or not) man.
PippaHugo · 04/09/2020 18:29

I think the least contentious policy on use of nutjob is left to Alan Partridge's Alpha Papa:

Never, never criticize Muslims; only, only Christians. And Jews a little bit.

Adhere to that on mumsnet, and you can't go wrong.
