Ms Krug, a Jewish woman form Kansa purported to be a Black woman and was a Professor of AfricanAmerica Hostory at George Washington University . Teaching classes and supervision grad and undergrad students in African American History

She was also an activist who posted and participated in rallies and events as Jessica La Bombalera. Demonstrating against the gentrification of East Harlem, proclaiming it to be her neighbourhood

Essentially she has gaslight,lied and assumed an identity that is not hers. In doing so,other candidates were denied opportunities,remuneration. She has assumed an identity and heritage that was not hers to assume

Exposed by a student who had the courage to confide in other teaching staff

I get why you it was included in the OP now, thanks, and apologies for not reading the full thread. I still feel it's irrelevant to skin colour since there are black (and brown) Jews. It's not exclusive to white people.

The emphasis makes me feel a little uncomfortable. I worry her self description could be seized on by racists as a 'justification' for anti-Semitism. In this case, her being white is what's relevant to the story. That said her Jewishness raises interesting questions. Some people (Jews included, as a pp says) don't consider Jews to be white. Some see them as BAME. They're certainly a group who have been very oppressed for thousands of years.

There's a good BBC link someone posted on another thread. Going back through thousands of years of history, us humans (whatever our skin tone) are very mixed race wise.

And I am reporting the facts of a women who led a false made up professional and personal life

It's partly a consequence of people having been told to second guess and suppress their instincts about the stark-raving-obvious under the auspices of #BeKind inclusivity bollocks.

This woman would have given you a serious case of snow blindness if you'd stared at her directly without shades and yet apparently people fell for the charade (or did they really?) for around 20 years.

It is significant and included in all commentary about this event that she’s a white woman as she purposefully misrepresented herself as a black woman. She invented a set of experiences that were not hers. She spoke in first person as a black woman, she knew this was untrue. There is no suggestion that’d she would have had disclosed any of this had she not felt she was busted.

Just because JK mentioned it is irrelevant - Jews can be black. Black people can be Jewish.

So it is irrelevant to the post and certainly the title of the post.

I understand why you're reporting how she describes herself. I'm just giving my opinion on it's relevance. Has she also self described as overweight or someone who only ever wears yellow jumpers, I'd also think it wasn't necessary for the media to emphasise that. But...actually her Jewish heritage is very interesting here, as it adds complication to the case. Makes it much less straight forward. In my opinion. Others might disagree.

Still no outrage over Julia Salazar misrepresenting herself as Jewish from the OP though! Can't wait for your next AIBU on her.

Did you read mine? I posted a link explaining exactly who Julia Salazar is - a Latina woman and an elected official who pretended to be Jewish.

I think it might partly be that, but also because lots of mixed race people don't look it. I've known people with one white parent and one black parent who look white.

I really find it strange that it's considered so outrageous to do what she did, identifying strongly as black, but it's acceptable for biological males to identify as women. If ones ok, both are ok. Or neither. It's very confusing. It affects funding opportunities the same way. In the US many students go to university on sports scholarships, for example.

Yeah, this is obviously a shitty and offensive thing to do.

Which is why I cannot understand how men identifying as women is OK, and not only just OK but something that everyone must play along with and fawn over, otherwise they are a bigot who deserves to be arrested, sacked, punched, choked etc.

I think it's interesting to look at the similarities or difference to trans issues. What makes this so unacceptable if it's ok to accept people self id-ing as a different gender. There may be very good reasons that would be helpful to highlight / discuss.

The reason is that many people don’t really believe that women are oppressed, even many feminists. This is apparently abhorrent but those born and socialised male taking places on all women shortlists is just dandy.
