Ms Krug, a Jewish woman form Kansa purported to be a Black woman and was a Professor of AfricanAmerica Hostory at George Washington University . Teaching classes and supervision grad and undergrad students in African American History

She was also an activist who posted and participated in rallies and events as Jessica La Bombalera. Demonstrating against the gentrification of East Harlem, proclaiming it to be her neighbourhood

Essentially she has gaslight, lied and assumed an identity that is not hers. In doing so,other candidates were denied opportunities, remuneration. She has assumed an identity and heritage that was not hers to assume

Exposed by a student who had the courage to confide in other teaching staff

The whole mea culpa sounds like a social experiment for an article titled 'Social media, identity and wider discourse in the fractured world of coronavirus: ontology on a shoestring'. Or something.

Like I said, I don't think it's antisemitic, I just think it shows a degree of ignorance regarding Jewish people. Probably not a bad idea to get it out in the open for correction, as I suspect there are a lot of people who don't realise the extent of Jewish diversity.

Holding my hands up to this one, I didn't realise. I don't think I'm anti-Semitic, just that the only Jews I've known / seen on TV etc are more white looking than anything else. I'm glad to have learned something!

@ListeningQuietly

Can nutjob be applied to other faiths? Can you say someone is a Jewish nutjob? Or an Islamic nutjob? Yup. Hindu, Buddhist, Wiccan you name it.

Anybody whose belief system makes them do stuff that is loopy Grin

Someone at preschool told people i was a religious nutter

I don’t even believe in God...and it put people off talking to me

They said I didn’t like swearing

For fucks sake!

@SheepandCow
Ms Krug Give another account of herself or her motivation?Quite possibly yes, given she is flexible with her narrative

I have been thinking a lot more on why this happened and why both Jess Krug and Rachel Dolezal were in academia. I think that Jess Krug seems quite malicious (she applied for scholarships for black students and pretended to be a crack baby from the Bronx when she went to a prestigious private school). Rachel Dolezal had a genuinely awful upbringing.

Academia is a profession that it is extremely hard to get into unless you have a lot of privilege. Most academics even at post 1992 universities (or ex polys) went to a more prestigious university and you need an masters and PhD to get a foot in the door. However in the humanities and social sciences there is a lot of emphasis put of ‘oppression’ to the point of fetishising the oppressed. I was told once (by a privately educated Oxford graduate) that I was luck to be disabled because it gave my research more authenticity. I can’t think of anything to say to that other than what the fuck.

I honestly think that this is the tip of the iceberg. There may not be that many who are as blatant fakers as this but there are loads of people who fake their oppression to a lesser degree (genuinely oppressed people tend not to rise in academia). I can think of one senior female academics who talks about how hard it was coming from a working class background her dad was a millionaire. She identifies as queer having only dated men (as far as anyone knows) and is particularly vicious towards lesbian colleagues. She doesn’t pretend not to be white but in academic circles there are a lot of people who claim an oppression that isn’t theirs whilst clinging on to their own privilege.

People are mystified by Boris Johnson’s popularity with the working class but at least for all his many faults he has the decency to own his privilege.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 04/09/2020 19:03

I'm not very educated when it comes to all the correct terminology....but how did she get away with it ? Surely she must have got chatting to other African Americans who might have asked her where her ancestors or family was from? She must be one hell of a liar , how did she not get rumbled?

SheepandCow · 04/09/2020 19:05

Whoopi Goldberg is a black Jew. Former MP, Baroness King is another. I agree though. It's a common misperception that only white people are Jewish. I learned so much about black Jews from an Ethiopian Jewish man I met at university. It was very interesting.

@SentientAndCognisant I think Jessica Krug is very confused and probably has some mental health issues she needs help with. It's all rather sad really.

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 19:05

@ShebaShimmyShake the faith and upbringing Ms Krug was raised in, is important Because she chose not to reference it in her adult academic life.she purposely chose to present a wholly inaccurate representation of herself

The only person I am discussing is Ms Krug I am not extrapolating her experience to other individuals or any other community.
I am not saying she is representative of anyone else or of a particular faith. I am saying she has reported she had an identity that she chose to conceal form colleagues and associates. Subsequently choosing to manufacture an other identity

Her reasons are unknown, she has alluded to trauma and mental health.

People are mystified by Boris Johnson’s popularity with the working class but at least for all his many faults he has the decency to own his privilege

100 percent agree with this. I am from a working class background and the main reason that typical labour voters have turned away from the party is because Labour in its current form does not represent the people it was formed to represent, most WC people I know saw it as the party of the champagne socialites. JC very much tried to portray himself as a humble man of the people- but he grew up in luxury and owns properties most people can only ever dream of, he tried to portray an understanding and connection that he will never have.

And trans racial is absolutely the same as trans gender, so the question is why was the student who reported not whisked off for immediate re education and JK supported for being stunning and brave enough to be her authentic self?

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 19:18

@AlltheLemurs makes very interesting points. It is a very common UK thing to adjust class up/down

I’ve known and worked with screamingly rich people who really down play their background and advantages
l have also known worked with people from regular backgrounds who have a RP accent and a whiff of polo when their background was no such thing

Few years ago, a NQ journalist had lied that she had attended oxbridge to get on to a graduate training course, it git exposed obviously
Her justification was she is just as smart as other applicants, has had to work hard from modest background and a regular uni, only be gaming the system was she able to get the training place. Her account was there is an inbuilt bias towards Oxbridge and she was challenging it any way she could

There's race that's biological, a determination of skin colour, physiology, prone to certain illness or other biological factors depending on your race, and then there's the socialogical race where human-made stereotypes and prejudice come into play to

I am related to twins. They both have natural afros. They have identical features but one is white and the other is black.

The one who is white has the same biology as the one that is black

Skin colour doesn’t indicate your race in every instance.

Ethiopia (according to an Ethiopian Jewish guy I know) was the birth place of Judaism.
Wouldn’t that in a roundabout way make all Jewish people in their ancestry African.

If both JK and RD are in academia and felt the need that the only way they could advance was by saying they were black women (I wonder how many more JKs and RDs there are out there)
Shouldn’t academia be looking at the privilege that it gives to black women If to get on people have to pretend to be something they are not.
Has the pendulum swung so far that now if you are in academia and a white woman you face a glass ceiling because of the colour of your skin?

randomer · 04/09/2020 19:51

the decency to own his own privilege

What? He could hardly pretend to be White Van Man or even Workington Man could he? The stupid name is something of a give away. Oh and the flouishes of Latin.

CatsFantastic · 04/09/2020 19:55

The prejudice white women face is not because they are ‘not black’- it’s because they are women, for all the talk of ‘equality’ women are still inherently discriminated against and unrepresented in professional jobs.

And I guarantee that if JK was a man the reaction would have been a lot different. It would have been excused/rationalised.

stairway · 04/09/2020 19:56

I don’t think Boris owns his own privilege. He doesn’t go by his full name. Corbin was criticised for sending his kids to state school even though he could afford private school. I doubt he went to private school himself given his A level results.

Sso basically this whole thread is to enable the transphobes to come out of hiding. Right.

ListeningQuietly · 04/09/2020 20:36

People can be mixed race
their genetics are set at conception

people cannot be mixed sex
their chromosomes are set at conception

SheepandCow · 04/09/2020 20:37

Does transphobia relate to trans-race or just trans-gender?

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 04/09/2020 21:01

Dunno

Maybe toconclude knows

It would helpful if Parliament would urgently address the definition of 'transphobia' for everybody's sake.

Now populations are mobile, ethnicity is complicated.
Whoopi Goldberg is a professional name. She is legally Caryn Elaine Johnson. (Pronounced Karen). She has been treated as black and Jewish (Probably because of her name choice), but has no known Jewish ancestors... so not an unambiguous example.
