Would you take part in an at home antibody test?

I've been invited to take part in the at home Covid antibody test. I didn't think anything of it and spoke to a friend about it who immediately shut the idea down and went all conspiracy on me!

Has anyone done it?

If not and you were invited to, would you do it?

Yabu - No
Yanbu - Yes

I have no opinion either way atm, just curious.

I've had an antibody test at work. Why wouldn't you do it?

FooFighter99 · 03/09/2020 15:41

All staff at my NHS Trust were offered the antibody test, and as far as I know, those who had a positive result (as in, they had the antibody present in their blood so they've had COVID) were contacted to take part in medical trials and/or asked if they wanted to donate their plasma to help

All these conspiracy's do is try to divert attention away from the fact that we are in the grip of a very real pandemic that is killing people and we need to do all we can to create a vaccine

Pugdoglife · 03/09/2020 15:41

I definitely would, I would feel reassured if I had antibodies which indicated I had already had CV and therefore some immunity (I haven't had any symptoms).

KittCat · 03/09/2020 15:42

I would.

Emcont · 03/09/2020 15:43

I will do it, I see absolutely no reason not to!

She went off on a rant about how 'they' are just trying to steal our information....

I mean, the letter was sent to my house.. addressed to me... so pretty clear that they already have that!

Yes. I have also been asked to participate and I have said that I am willing. Why not?!

Wheytaminute · 03/09/2020 15:44

I would do it.

Although I don't think I have had Covid.

Sirzy · 03/09/2020 15:44

My dad was asked to participate and did. It was really simple. I would love to be invited as I would like to know if I have had it

TeenPlusTwenties · 03/09/2020 15:46

Absolutely.

modgepodge · 03/09/2020 15:47

Yes, I was also asked to participate and have now done 2 tests. I saw no reason not to, and selfishly suspected I had had CV (before testing was widely available) and wanted to know!

IggyAce · 03/09/2020 15:48

I would do it. In fact I think they should be testing the whole population for antibodies.

WhoAmIWhoAreYou · 03/09/2020 15:48

Yes I would 100%

Ilikewinter · 03/09/2020 15:48

Yes I'd love to take part so absolutely i think you should do it!

Sophoa · 03/09/2020 15:49

Of course why wouldn’t you

HollowTalk · 03/09/2020 15:49

What information is it they are planning to steal?

DramaLlama12 · 03/09/2020 15:49

Yes I absolutely would , I'd help all I could if it would lead to successful vaccine

stayathomer · 03/09/2020 15:51

I had covid and family didn't. We can't wait to get an antibody test!

lurker101 · 03/09/2020 15:51

@Emcont if your friend is worried about “they” stealing her information I really hope she doesn’t have a passport, NI number, NHS Number or an internet capable phone.......

I would definitely take part - nothing to lose from doing a test and a lot to potentially gain (for society) if any learning comes of it in the science community

Suzi888 · 03/09/2020 15:53

I’d do it. The Government already holds loads of information about us anyway! unless you live off grid Confused in the middle of nowhere, no internet, use only cash etc

ChanceEncounter · 03/09/2020 15:55

Yes I would - but if you have antibodies don't be a prat and think you are now immune!

mindutopia · 03/09/2020 15:55

Yes, definitely. Why wouldn’t you? I assume it’s free. And for research purposes?

I would be able to have one for work (NHS but not patient facing), but I’d have to actually take the train and tube to go into the office to get it done (I’ve been asked to wfh until January as my work is research based and easily done remotely). If someone would send me a home test, I’d have done it months ago.

You’re friend sounds a bit mad, btw.

Houseplanted · 03/09/2020 15:57

DH has been asked to do the antibody and he is. My whole household is also taking part in the ONS Covid study.

timeforawine · 03/09/2020 16:03

I would, hoping i get asked

Zakana · 03/09/2020 16:04

We are doing the ONS Covid study too, and I would have no problems with taking part in antibody testing either, anything however small our part is, helps immensely, especially as we have no idea how long we will be blighted with Covid for.

BendingSpoons · 03/09/2020 16:05

I would. I had an antibody test at work. 'They' need our information to figure out more about the virus, who might have had it etc.
