Would you take part in an at home antibody test?

I've been invited to take part in the at home Covid antibody test. I didn't think anything of it and spoke to a friend about it who immediately shut the idea down and went all conspiracy on me!

Has anyone done it?

If not and you were invited to, would you do it?

Yabu - No
Yanbu - Yes

I have no opinion either way atm, just curious.

Yes! If my nearest one wasnt an hour away and 65£ I would do it today! Im vulnerable but might have had it andwould really like to know...

MsJaneAusten · 03/09/2020 16:08

I got the letter today too. I’m definitely doing it.

lalalalaloo · 03/09/2020 16:09

I definitely would, in fact I would actively like one!

How did you get it?

tulippa · 03/09/2020 16:10

I'm already on an antibody study. Smile

netflixismysidehustle · 03/09/2020 16:14

I would do it even though I believe that having T-cells is more important than antibodies as T-cells seem to give long term immunity unlike antibodies.

(I'm not a scientist so happy to be corrected!)

Littlepond · 03/09/2020 16:14

I’ve had an antibody test it wouldn’t have occurred to me not to, I wanted to know if I’d had the virus !

lioncitygirl · 03/09/2020 16:15

Why wouldn’t you? My husband did it.

AlrightTreacle · 03/09/2020 16:18

I would do it, unless you are looking to apply for health or life insurance anytime in the next few months: most providers say you need to be symptom free for a certain number of months after a positive antibody test.

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 16:23

Yes, I'd love to take part, i haven't done much to help during the pandemic as i've been pregnant the whole way through but I am part of a study so would be glad of the chance to help in someway.

Ginnyrella · 03/09/2020 16:25

I am doing the Covid anti body study with the ONS. I’ve not had a problem with it. Very quick al easy after the first initial visit!

Ginfordinner · 03/09/2020 16:26

I agree with lurker101. Unless your friend is completely off grid, has no job, doesn't claim any kind of benefit, pays no council tax, doesn't own a car etc then loads of organisations will already have her details.

She sounds batshit.

Redwinestillfine · 03/09/2020 16:36

I'm Al part of a COVID research project. Not sure why you wouldn't help out if you could.

KatieB55 · 03/09/2020 16:44

I did the Superdrug test - it was negative although we think we had Covid in December/January. I have read that antibodies are often not detectable after 3/4 months and also that we could have B cell immunity even though antibody tests were negative.

KeyWorker · 03/09/2020 16:54

I was also contacted at random and signed up. They sent the kit a few days later. I’ve also had antibody testing via my employer too. Both negative. No need for conspiracy, if nobody got involved in research like this we wouldn’t know anything about Covid!!

gwenneh · 03/09/2020 16:54

I would. I paid to have one done privately (DD was ill back in early March and I had wondered if we had it) so I'd absolutely do it again.

cologne4711 · 03/09/2020 16:56

Yes I would, I don't think I've had covid but I'd do the test as presumably it's a blood test and not the swab up the nose malarkey? I wouldn't have the latter.

TwoFlatWhitesToWakeUp · 03/09/2020 16:56

I'd love an antibody test.

Brighterthansunflowers · 03/09/2020 16:57

I would do the test, although I have no reason to believe I’ve had the virus.

AliMonkey · 03/09/2020 17:46

I did it a few weeks ago. Easy to do and helps the research. I didn’t think twice - it’s not as if there isn’t already loads of data out there on me!

Emcont · 03/09/2020 19:04

I've just registered to do it. Apparently they are sending the kits out on the 14th, so will give an update!

I would have loved to be offered an antibody test. As I wasn't, I paid to have one of these a while back, did it privately. Was really useful as it proved I'd had COVID when I thought I had, as the COVID tests weren't available to me at the time.

Oblomov20 · 03/09/2020 19:08

Why would you not?

SleepingStandingUp · 03/09/2020 19:08

@Emcont

I will do it, I see absolutely no reason not to!

She went off on a rant about how 'they' are just trying to steal our information....

I mean, the letter was sent to my house.. addressed to me... so pretty clear that they already have that!

Yup, stealing your genetic DNA through your boogers so they can build a giant booger monster to defeat the lizard overlords
middleager · 03/09/2020 19:11

Yes - would love to be invited as we were ill in March after my son returned from Italy, skiing.

bushtailadventures · 03/09/2020 19:13

I did one for a research thing a few weeks ago, I don't kno why anyone wouldn't. If they have your name and address already, they no doubt have all the information they will ever need on me anyway(boring)
