Would you take part in an at home antibody test?

I've been invited to take part in the at home Covid antibody test. I didn't think anything of it and spoke to a friend about it who immediately shut the idea down and went all conspiracy on me!

Has anyone done it?

If not and you were invited to, would you do it?

Yabu - No
Yanbu - Yes

I have no opinion either way atm, just curious.

Yes, I've been asked and I've signed up to do it. I think I had it in late March so if I had antibodies then I don't know if I still will. I wish I'd been offered sooner really.

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 03/09/2020 19:23

My husband recently did a Covid test, but for active Covid rather than anti bodies
As per of a study (letter in the post thing). I thought that could only be tested in the blood?! I’d do any test but then I would want to know!

Bingobongo1 · 03/09/2020 19:33

I have been invited and am going to do it. I think anything individuals can do to help inform is a moral duty presently.

cardibach · 03/09/2020 19:40

I’d definitely do it, but don’t expect it to tell you definitively whether you had Covid. A friend of mine who definitely had it (hospitalised) has just had a negative antibody test. As a PP said, T cells seem to be more important in immunity.

KitchenConfidential · 03/09/2020 19:44

What information are they stealing? You don’t send them the test back, you just tell them the results.

Nodney · 03/09/2020 19:48

I would

Sailingblue · 03/09/2020 20:00

I’d love to do this one. I signed up for another study thinking if find out and that one doesn’t tell you the result. I was gutted!

Littlemissdaredevil · 03/09/2020 20:12

I would do the antibody test.

Are people just randomly invited or do you need to sign up somewhere?

BakewellTarts · 03/09/2020 20:14

I got the letter yesterday and have registered to take part why wouldn't you?

BakewellTarts · 03/09/2020 20:14

@Littlemissdaredevil

I would do the antibody test.

Are people just randomly invited or do you need to sign up somewhere?

According to my letter random sample of people registered with a gp.

Just be careful this isn't a hoax! Police local to us have put messages on their social media pages about seemingly official letters from PHE/local authorities asking people to input details as part of pandemic response...

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 03/09/2020 20:22

DM was part of the trial, messed the test up... I definitely would

loutypips · 03/09/2020 20:43

I would!
If your friend thinks "they" are trying to get her information ie. dna, they could get that anytime she's had any medical attention in her lifetime! What a fool.

katsucurry · 03/09/2020 20:47

Yes, asked to take part and sent a kit, so already have done. It's interesting to know personally too (negative as I thought!)

whatswithtodaytoday · 03/09/2020 20:47

I would love to know if I had it in March, especially as the antibodies will be fading by now and I'll probably never know.

MissMarplesHandbag · 03/09/2020 20:57

I did

chilling19 · 03/09/2020 21:29

I did one. It looks like a pregnancy test and you pinprick your thumb, drip it into the test strip and wait 10 mins. Then you photograph the test stick and upload it the the website and fill in a short survey (how often have you been out etc). Painless and easy.

notangelinajolie · 03/09/2020 21:33

My DD got the letter today.
I'd love an antibody test but I guess it's not my turn.
I had a very high fever with breathlessness and chest pain way back in March but no Covid test back then to confirm.
DD also had a high fever at the same time as me (she didn't have any other symptoms).
If her test is antibody positive then I'm pretty sure I would be too.
Not sure if antibodies last that long though - fingers crossed they do.

Lincslady53 · 03/09/2020 21:37

I was selected by Mori and took the test. Negative, which was mot surprising as I not been close to anyone outside my household since March. It was ok, a bit uncomfortable, but no problem. The result came through in just a few days. I viewed it as if it helps to get us out of the situation we are in it has to be done.

rainbowunicorn · 03/09/2020 21:48

Your friend sounds a bit thick.

MsJaneAusten · 04/09/2020 06:53

I was cautious about that @FleasAndKeef, but with this particular one, when you put your code into the website, it brings up info about you (name, d of b, etc) so I think all I gave them that they didn’t already have was my email address and phone number, which are in the public domain anyway.

Grannyspecsandslippers · 04/09/2020 06:55

I would in a heartbeat. I had COVID in March but with no test done how can I really be sure? I would want to know if I have antibodies and would be happy to take part in any study that would help with fighting the virus incl track and trace
