To ask what fruit you eat

I'm trying to eat better which includes more fruit. I've always enjoyed eating veg even when I was young so I've got no problems there but I've never been a big fruit person. So I'm sat here having watermelon for a snack, I also buy bananas and grapes quite regularly but not much else. I buy strawberries and raspberries but they're quite expensive so not that often. What other fruit do you have regularly that I could incorporate into my day?

I love fruit but I'm a bit boring in my daily choices with grapefruit, oranges, mandarins, apples, pears. I love grapes and watermelon but go in fits and starts. We have three berry farms close to us and are spoiled for choice over the season. And when DH is away I usually eat bananas so DDog doesn't miss out on his morning treat - he gets the ends while DH has the middle as part of his breakfast Grin

fallfallfall · 03/09/2020 02:05

what ever is in season where you live. peaches upon peaches over here. spotted some apricots as well. i ate my way through several bags of cherries last month.

Anordinarymum · 03/09/2020 02:07

I like berries and bananas. I like melon and mangos and pears.

I dislike apples with a passion. I don't mind oranges but I can take them or leave them

DramaAlpaca · 03/09/2020 02:09

I'm like you, OP. I love vegetables and have yet to meet one I don't like but I'm not that interested in fruit. Most of it is too sweet for me. When I do eat fruit it's usually berries, which I mix with Greek yogurt.

Gingerkittykat · 03/09/2020 02:13

I eat kiwi fruit, melon and granny smith or pink lady apples, and the occasional strawberry or raspberry for a treat.

HeartShapedBox · 03/09/2020 02:21

I'm the opposite, like very few veg, fruits are

Apples
Oranges / tangerine/ clementine
Raspberries
Blackberries
Strawberries
Grapefruit
Grapes
Plum / apricot
Peaches/ nectarines
Coconut
Pineapple
Pears
Bananas
Raisins/ sultanas/ currants

Mothership4two · 03/09/2020 02:22

Blueberries, strawberries, apples and clementines or tangerines. Frozen fruit is a lot cheaper than fresh and can be mixed in with porridge or yoghurt.

Graphista · 03/09/2020 02:30

Bananas and apples most weeks - boring but cheap and last well

Seasonally grapes, melon, strawberries, cherries occasionally (I love them but they have a strong laxative effect on me so I have to be careful)

Remember tinned, frozen and dried fruit counts too

Dried apricots, raisins and sultanas, banana chips etc are among my favourites but not every day as they are high in sugar, but they're also a good source of iron and other nutrients so as part of a balanced diet fine

I've just treated myself to a new blender and I've got frozen strawberries in my next grocery order for smoothies

I've always got tinned in for "just in case" or my nod to "prepping" -

Peaches, pineapple, mandarin slices

Thinking I can maybe use the tinned in blender recipes ?

I posted a thread asking for recipes but got hardly any replies

I sometimes in winter like tinned fruit served with custard

Tavannach · 03/09/2020 02:40

I have frozen fruit - raspberries or blueberries or cherries - in my porridge in the morning.

Cornishclio · 03/09/2020 02:42

Bananas, apples, strawberries, blueberries, oranges, pears, melon, grapes and raspberries. Nectarines and peaches, apricots and rhubarb, cherries when in season. Pineapple too. The only fruits I am not keen on are blackberries and kiwi fruit. Usually I go for fresh but I like raisins, sultanas and dried apricots in small amounts. I can't eat grapefruit due to my hypertension medication and I am not a fan of tinned fruit. Loads of choice. I could eat fruit all day except for the fact it is too much fructose and has a laxative effect if I eat too much. On average I would have three to four portions a day. Usually grapes and melon for breakfast. A banana for snack and apple/orange or pear for lunch. I love strawberries with Greek yogurt for pudding.

steff13 · 03/09/2020 03:25

I love most fruit. I buy what's in season where I live. Right now it's apples.

MsChatterbox · 03/09/2020 03:38

Plums and kiwis are cheap and tasty. I'm on a budget so usually get Bananas and one type of different fruit each week

ulanbatorismynextstop · 03/09/2020 03:42

I'm boring, apples oranges bananas pears and grapes.

toiletpaper · 03/09/2020 03:46

I forgot about so many of these! I do like frozen defrosted raspberries on greek yogurt and a meringue nest but I've not had it for years now

80sMum · 03/09/2020 03:49

It's best to limit fruit consumption because it has a high sugar content. So don't worry about trying to eat more fruit, OP, eat more vegetables instead!

Mypathtriedtokillme · 03/09/2020 04:12

We eat what ever us in season as it normally cheaper and about 3 pieces a day.
Currently it’s Apples, pears, citrus, Kiwifruit (because it’s high in fibre and has an enzyme that gets everything moving), just about to start Mango season then it’s soft berries and stonefruit (The best of all fruit!!)

I grow raspberries, figs, strawberries, peaches and kiwiberries (like mini not hairy kiwifruit) in our garden and sometimes get to eat those.
Most of the time they disappear when our dd’s go out to play.

MrsMaglev · 03/09/2020 04:22

Frozen raspberries blueberries strawberries or pomegranate with porridge in the morning

Apples - sometimes with peanut butter if I need more protein - through the day.

Watermelon and sometimes pineapple or grapefruit as an evening snack.

I used to eat loads of grapes and bananas but I read the sugar content is quite high so I've cut down on them :/

Side note I haven't been able to buy kiwi fruit since the pandemic start! Anybody got a decent supplier?!

Happynow001 · 03/09/2020 06:05

@Tavannach

I have frozen fruit - raspberries or blueberries or cherries - in my porridge in the morning.

Yep - me too. I also like (occasionally), fresh ripe papaya/pawpaw, a slice of fresh ripe pineapple, a small mango. A small apple (Braeburn or Pink Lady) cut thin and eaten as a snack with a piece of Wensleydale or nature cheddar. A ripe pear (eg Williams or Comice) not conference pear though. The black cherries at the moment are wonderful and nearer the beginning of summer raspberries and strawberries with thick yoghurt as a snack with a tiny bit of pomegranate molasses or dark Agave nectar or dark maple syrup. Rainier cherries (yellow & blush pink in colour) an expensive but lovely treat. Yellow flesh peaches when in season and clementines/tangerines at this time of year. I love fruit salad made with all these (excluding apples but with fresh blueberries) with freshly squeezed orange and lemon as a base, with yoghurt as dessert. Buying from a market stall rather than a high street or supermarket is often cheaper. Be careful of tinned fruit stored in "light syrup" - I find those too sugary and drain the juice if I use them in cooking. Good luck and happy fruit eating, OP. 🌹

Bluesheep8 · 03/09/2020 06:07

Mango and raspberries every day with porridge.

DipSwimSwoosh · 03/09/2020 06:15

Apples
Plums
Kiwis
Bananas
Grapes
Satsumas
Tinned pineapple
Dried apricots
Pears

Everything else is too expensive

Deelish75 · 03/09/2020 06:28

Mainly bananas, apples and pears.
In winter I sometimes stew plums to go in a crumble. In summer I do buy strawberries.
Also like honeydew and cantaloupe melon.
I eat a lot of salad and veg.

Jemenfouscompletement · 03/09/2020 06:34

A kiwi gold everyday, with skin on. Maybe a few plums or a nectarine, in winter when citrus fruits are in season an orange or a few clementines.

I try not to eat too much fruit because it is very high in sugar. I prefer eating a lot of vegetables.

houseymcmousey · 03/09/2020 07:10

I love pineapple, I chop it up and leave in a tub in the fridge. Have also done this with melon. Much better than having to faff about each time you want a bit.

I buy plums and chop them up with some cinnamon, microwave them and have on top of porridge (I also do the same with blueberries/raspberries)

I use summer fruits in overnight oats.

Fifthtimelucky · 03/09/2020 07:38

I eat lots of fruit. Much of it I just eat by itself, or in a fruit salad or smoothie, but I also love fruit in savoury salads for lunch.

My favourite is a salad with pears, red grapes, figs, celery and soft blue cheese. When I make coleslaw I always put apple in it. I also love Parma ham and cantaloupe melon together.

ChanceEncounter · 03/09/2020 07:43

I cook frozen berries into.compote, I don't add any sugar, then have this with yogurt and muesli.

I eat quite a bit of tinned fruit too, whenever I feel like a snack. My view is it is better than chocolate.

I don't care about sugar in fruit as I am a crazy reckless fool who likes living dangerously.
