To ask what fruit you eat

I'm trying to eat better which includes more fruit. I've always enjoyed eating veg even when I was young so I've got no problems there but I've never been a big fruit person. So I'm sat here having watermelon for a snack, I also buy bananas and grapes quite regularly but not much else. I buy strawberries and raspberries but they're quite expensive so not that often. What other fruit do you have regularly that I could incorporate into my day?

I buy apples, bananas, clementines or similar as standard, (along with dried figs, dates and sultanas, and a few tins) then add in pears nectarines, peaches, grapes, all the berries, kiwis, mangoes, papaya, melon and pineapple etc seasonally.

I skipped cherries entirely this year, I'm not sure why.

We're currently massively into blackberries and rhubarb. Smile

Fruit?! What’s that!

Grapes -wine wise is the only fruit i eat. Fruit doesn’t work for me.

Sheknowsaboutme · 03/09/2020 17:46

Oh blackberries-i put in gin.

Does that count?

misskatamari · 03/09/2020 18:19

persimmon/sharon fruit will be in the shops soon, and they are amazing! My absolute favourite

PickAChew · 03/09/2020 21:44

@SchrodingersImmigrant

And isn't aubergine fruit too?🤔
Yes, and also cucumber, squash, peppers...
JovialNickname · 03/09/2020 21:52

I know it's not fruit (except it technically is) but I love a handful of cherry tomatoes, perhaps with a bit of cheese, as a snack. They're lovely, sweet and delicious but not super sweet like fruit. And they go with everything! Maybe give them a try? x

JovialNickname · 03/09/2020 21:56

Or, to totally freak people out and get some fruit in you at the same time, you could eat a kiwi fruit IN ITS SKIN on the bus to make everyone look. I didn't know you could do this until someone mentioned it on here and it actually tastes amazing!

Mummadeeze · 03/09/2020 21:57

I eat oranges as a pudding as they are nice and sweet and filling. I also make really nice smoothies using chocolate soya milk and frozen fruits of the Forest berries. It has a Black Forest gateaux flavour to it. The other thing I do is put mango pieces (not many, just a few) in my salad at lunchtime. Sometimes I have green grapes.

Noooooooo 😂😂😂 Spoon. You eat it with spoon. Costco golden kiwi even has it on a packaging😂

I'm going to give this photo another outing.

Apples every day. Satsuma etc most days, grapes most weeks. A bit dull really. Honeydew melon is a favourite but as I'm the only one who eats it I have to fancy eating a whole one.

I'd love to eat more strawberries and cherries but they're too expensive.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 03/09/2020 22:04

@PickAChew 😂

Hyperfish101 · 03/09/2020 22:05

Occasionally mango but I’m not a fan of fruit. I eat lots of veg though!

Shizzlestix · 03/09/2020 22:14

Currently have peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, black grapes (by far the nicest), green grapes, strawberries, watermelon. So why am I eating bloody chocolate?!

Bananas and apples just go off or get given to the horse (apples only, he spits out banana). He is also very keen on tangerines. My trolley often contains a bizarre mix of offal, polos, carrots and tangerines.

VenusTiger · 03/09/2020 22:32

Nothing wrong with tinned oranges and tinned peaches - cheap as chips and will keep if you're not in the mood.

Jemenfouscompletement · 03/09/2020 22:33

I mentioned eating kiwis with the skin, especially kiwi gold. This after reading James Wong's book how to eat better which goes into an in depth look at which fruit and veg are best and how to Clio and or eat them to get the best nutritional value. It's a very interesting read and I actually enjoy eating kiwis with the skin on (the gold are best)

Jemenfouscompletement · 03/09/2020 22:34

How to cook and eat them
Bloody auto incorrect

Toothsil · 03/09/2020 22:38

At the moment we have

Bananas
Apples
Plums
Raspberries
Strawberries
Blackberries
Candy floss grapes (love them!)
Melon
Pineapple
Kiwis

Lovely1a2b3c · 03/09/2020 22:58

I regularly eat:

Cooked blackberries or blueberries with apples (like crumble-less crumble); sometimes with custard.

Pineapple (pre-sliced).

Mandarin oranges from a plastic tub!

Longdistance · 03/09/2020 23:13

I’m very boring with my fruit. I like apples, bananas and strawberries. Tomatoes in salads and avocado (is that a fruit???) I do prefer my vegetables though and salad.

DollyDoneMore · 03/09/2020 23:23

Erm, go into a supermarket, look at the fruit, try the fruit. That’s the fruit that’s available in most places. Go to a speciality store that sells different kinds of fruit. Try that. That’s also available.

Different people like different fruit best. Telling you what fruit they like won’t really help you discover what fruit you like, even if they are including handy serving suggestions like chopping big fruit up.

Happy to help.

toiletpaper · 04/09/2020 23:10

Thanks for all your replies, I went shopping today and bought more fruit than I ever have done! Bananas, kiwi fruits, tangerines, granny smith's, raspberries, figs, grapes, avocado, rhubarb as well as tin peaches, pineapples and mandarins. Got all my usual salad and veg too. My fridge has never been so healthy!

To agree with a pp, I also hate all melons apart from watermelon (love watermelon) and I can't stand mango, even the small is atrocious.

Oh and plums! Knew I'd forget something
