To ask what fruit you eat

I'm trying to eat better which includes more fruit. I've always enjoyed eating veg even when I was young so I've got no problems there but I've never been a big fruit person. So I'm sat here having watermelon for a snack, I also buy bananas and grapes quite regularly but not much else. I buy strawberries and raspberries but they're quite expensive so not that often. What other fruit do you have regularly that I could incorporate into my day?

Camomila · 03/09/2020 07:56

We buy
strawberrys and raspberrys (expensive but we eat mainly veggie/don't often buy alcohol so it balances out)
apples
bananas
grapes
watermelon fans for DS1

then from my parents garden we get whatever's growing.

Sainsburies 'snacking peppers' are also really nice and sweeter.

Happynow001 · 03/09/2020 07:57

@ChanceEncounter

I don't care about sugar in fruit as I am a crazy reckless fool who likes living dangerously.
You l'l devil you!! 😈

averythinline · 03/09/2020 08:01

Not a fruit person here.. bananas are the work of the devil:) vile smelly squishy things...watermelon needs vodka to make it interesting!

Its ok not to like fruit....I ate more fruit when dc were younger to pretend for them....neither of them fell for it...and only like crunchy apples get some from local supplier/farmers market much wider varieties! Or dried mango which is mainly sugar. But a good portable snack..

Any that dh wants has is whats on offer/seasonal although diabetic so doesn't eat loads..

primabloodydonna · 03/09/2020 08:05

have any of the low carbers been in yet to tell you that fruit is naughty?

Lemonyfuckit · 03/09/2020 08:07

My absolute favourite are nectarines, eat those a lot, and peaches and apricots when they're in season. Plums and green gages too, yum.
I can take or leave raw apples (and they don't seem to agree with me) but like them in puddings. Tend to eat satsumas and clementines when nectarines etc are out of season.
Like berries and tropical fruit so sometimes have those at the weekend if in season, often have strawberries for pudding in the summer. Like bananas but don't eat them that regularly. Tend to just eat a nectarine or two clementines after lunch.

vanillandhoney · 03/09/2020 08:07

I buy frozen fruit and have it for breakfast with yoghurt or porridge - frozen berries or mango etc. is much cheaper than fresh and just as good for you.

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 03/09/2020 08:10

I'm not massive on fruit either tbh. My DS however absolutely loves it. His eyes light up when you hand him a bowl of fruit.
His regular types are;

Bananas
Apples
Clementines
Oranges
Nectarines
Plums
Strawberries
Blueberries
Raspberries
Blackberries
Cherries
Grapes
Any type of melon

Ragwort · 03/09/2020 08:11

prima - I follow low carb but I'm not going to tell anyone fruit is naughty Grin, I don't eat much fruit, if I'm honest I don't really like it that much .... I like raspberries or a really ripe piece of cantaloupe melon ... but even before low carbing I would never think 'I'd love an apple'. Low carbing really suits me as I no longer feel guilty about not enjoying fruit.

frustrationcentral · 03/09/2020 08:12

I can't eat many fruits as over the years I've developed allergy's to them - oral allergy syndrome

I can't stand banana, never been able to eat them so I'm pretty much limited to strawberries and satsumas. It's a good job I love vegetables!

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 03/09/2020 08:13

@frustrationcentral I'm allergic to melon. I love it though so sometimes have it after an antihistamine 😂

DarkMintChocolate · 03/09/2020 08:17

Our standard breakfast is boiled eggs, with three portions of

Grapes
Strawberries
Raspberries
Melon
Blueberries
Mango
Tinned mandarin oranges

We have pears, apples, bananas and oranges for snacks. DH can’t stop eating snacks, so at least fruit is low fat (he has coronary artery disease).

We have dessert maybe once a week:

Pineapple
Apple crumble
Tinned fruit in juice in jelly

DD has SEN and its a struggle to get her to eat enough veg, otherwise she gets constipation. So, fruit is necessary too!

HazelWong · 03/09/2020 08:19

Love fruit!

Seasonal fruit tastes best : at the moment, English plums, apples, pears. Winter will be all about the citrus fruit. June is my favourite time of the year: Indian mangoes, strawberries, raspberries...

ThursdayLastWeek · 03/09/2020 08:23

I only really eat apples tbh. I do enjoy watermelon too but don’t buy it regularly.
Strawberries in my pimms Wink

I find the texture of so many fruits so variable that I simply don’t enjoy them. I need crunch not squelch!

Baaaahhhhh · 03/09/2020 08:29

Most fruit in the UK is tasteless or acid, or perhaps just to me, so I don't eat it much, if at all. The occasional Apple, or pomegranate juice. When we lived in Italy I ate fruit every day, but that's a completely different ballgame. Perhaps I was spoilt.

Catlover77 · 03/09/2020 08:32

I keep frozen berries to defrost and chop up with apples

Porcupineinwaiting · 03/09/2020 08:34

Papaya with lime juice. Delicious and nutritious (but you must add the lime to bring out the flavour).

ivykaty44 · 03/09/2020 08:39

I buy bags of frozen fruit, particularly fruits of the forest, berries. I add these to my breakfast or Greek yogurt

Pineapple since I found if you just slice the top of and each time you want some you just slice it like bread. Then keep face/flesh down on a plate in the fridge. It’s so much easier

Blueberries fresh, nice snack

Melon in slices and have before meals

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 03/09/2020 08:40

I try and eat whats in season. Eg I think rhubarb starts quite early in the UK, then you get cherries, strawberries, raspberries, followed by blackberries, blueberries, apples, plums & pears as autumn approaches. Apples keep well so you will get british ones almost year round. I have apple, plum, cherry & mulberry trees in my garden, a neighbour gives us lots of pears from their tree, and can pick tons of blackberries growing wild locally so we eat a lot of local fruit in summer.

In winter I try and buy what's in season from further south since you dont get so much british fruit - so grapes and citrus fruit from Spain in particular.

Wheelyyyy · 03/09/2020 08:46

Alsorts

Peaches
Strawberries
Blueberries
Nectarines
Satsumas
Mango
Grapes
Plumd

It all depends on whats available and the prices at the time

AriettyHomily · 03/09/2020 08:46

I don't really, I'll eat strawberries when in season and fruit that tastes like fruit on holiday like local melons / peaches etc.

I eat a lot of salad and vegetables instead.

joystir59 · 03/09/2020 08:48

Everything that's in season and within budget. As a minimum apples oranges bananas and lemons

zingally · 03/09/2020 08:52

My regulars are bananas, grapes, cherry tomatoes, pears.

Depending on season and price, I'll also sometimes buy strawberries, apples, satsumas, peaches, nectarines, melon. I also loved tinned peaches, and will eat them year-round. I buy cherries two or three times a year, but they're bloody expensive!

My unwritten rule is to buy three different fruits each week. So this week was bananas, grapes and apples. Bananas are the only one I buy EVERY week.

zingally · 03/09/2020 08:52

Oh, and mango and plums occasionally as well!

formerbabe · 03/09/2020 08:58

Apples but they need to be super crisp...hate anything with a bit of mush

Plums occasionally but I like them really sour

Watermelon but only in really hot weather

zingally · 03/09/2020 08:59

Me too!

I hit 30 and suddenly kiwi was a complete no-go.

I also have occasional trouble with tomatoes, but to the same level as kiwi. Unfortunately strawberries have been a bit problematic this season... and they're one of my favourites!
