Thanks for this thread & all the advice, just bought mine from Bodykind, great price too .

Weirdly, almost looking forward to my period now lol! This is how I imagine my dh must feel when he tries out a new gadget. Maybe I ought to get him one?

susiecutie · 12/10/2007 20:04

Its ok Franny, i wasnt really upset just embarrassed as i'd given too much info... glad i hadnt...

AITCH: I'm relieved to hear i'm not alone with my problem... it doesn't matter how low i leave it, its always been sucked right up to the top by the time i go empty... It seems i DO have a fanny like a bucket... with a dyson sitting just at the top!!!

Actually i like to think of it as just being really goddamn tight in there... my MW did comment on it as i was pushing Dd out... much to my embarrassment and Dh surprise/ delight... mum wasnt too sure what to make if the new info on her daughters anatomy though

So, I can now confirm, if I pee first, it descends to a far more accessible position.

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 20:51

Oh susie how could you possibly have given too much information on this thread?

I am sorry again, it was just a crass attempt at humour

susiecutie · 12/10/2007 21:57

nothing to be sorry for poppet , honestly

susiecutie · 12/10/2007 22:00

oh, wsa going to say.. one of my converts popped in to help me bath Dd this eve. I told her I had my mooncup. she said, oh, brill, can i see it. so i said.. erm... i dont think so... she said oh i do please? so i said, well i dont think so at the moment. s she said, dont worry, just tell me where to find it and i'll help myself

i think she realised by the look on my face where she would be looking! i nearly fired my mooncup out, laughing so much.

mrsmerton · 12/10/2007 22:03

Someone on this thread earlier said mooncups were great for heavy periods, better than super size tampons with regard to leaking etc. Is this really the case? Mine are HEAVY.
Also, personal question, what if you are out, in public loos and have to empty it? How do you get from the cubicle to the basin to wash your hands, aren't they covered in blood?

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 22:06

The mooncup holds more fluid than a super size tampon, so as long as you can get the hang of using it, it should be better for you to use, yes

In a public toilet you just wipe out the mooncup with toilet roll, or take a bottle of water in with you to rinse it. The blood is inside the mooncup and your fingers are on the outside, so in theory you are not getting messy, but I have had it happen, yes. You could a) take in baby wipes or b) where appropriate, use a disabled toilet which has a sink in the cubicle.

mrsmerton · 12/10/2007 22:08

Not sure if I am brave enough to try....but thanks for info

susiecutie · 12/10/2007 22:09

I guess if you are using public loo, you would be taking bottle of water in with you to wash it anyway, so i'd just pour it over my hands too, wipe them then wash properly in sink.

I've not got really heavy periods, but on forst few days, its fairly heavy. I've not been out, but have been using it at home and not had anyprobs as the cup contains all the fluid. and not much at all on outside. I suppose that because the cup catches it before it can get to the part of your fanjo that you reach into..

although, having said that, it seems that i have to reach 'in' alot further than most to retrieve mine. It should be just sitting at the opening with the tail there to pull it out with. SO, i'd say its not covered in blood...

sorry i've waffled a bit.

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 22:09

Hunker! Hunkerrrrrrr

(our resident heavy period expert)

come and speak to this lady and convert her, please

susiecutie · 12/10/2007 22:09

sorry, x posts there!

Bewilderbeast · 12/10/2007 22:11

Mrs Merton Tmi alert but in answer to your question I go through a super plus tampon after 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Whilst I am still getting used to the mooncup and haven;t quite got the hang of it yet I can easily get 6 hours sleep at night with it in. I'd have no chance with a tampon or pad.

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 22:12

I think I have had one occasion where I got a bit covered. I can't remember what was different on that occasion, but I was at home and I do remember thinking "I am glad I am not in a public toilet." I think i may have left it to get rather full and had some difficulty breaking the seal, so I probably spilt some as I was removing it.

Usually the blood is, as susie says, on the inside, and you don't come into contact with it. It's amazingly NON messy IME, much cleaner than you would think.

lovemygirl · 12/10/2007 22:13

someone looking for you in Chat Frannyandzooey.

kd73 · 12/10/2007 22:16

Recent convert - now too scared to try it out .

Has anyone got an infection as you can't clean it properly or sterilise it for a fair few days?

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 22:44

LMG thank you

KD do you mean has anyone got an infection from using one because they are dirty things that you can't clean?

You CAN clean them properly during your cycle, you can wash them with hot soapy water every time you empty them. Sorry to be crude, but you would be more likely to get an infection from your husband's hand or penis IMO.

watch out ladies, someone round here is likely to bleed on you if you stay in one place for too long

Fullmooncup I am calling hunker for you

HUNKERRRRRRRRRRRR

see?

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 13/10/2007 09:22

Fullmoonvup, I used tampons and pafds together- even on a heavy day (TMI) that gave me about an hour! With the mooncup I get 4 hours easily most days, on night times I add in a pad but its better than leaking. It does get very full of course but even if I changed it 2 hourly it'd still be a double plus bonus.

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 13/10/2007 09:23

F&Z- isn't the infection the point of them being silicone, bug resistant? Infection V V unlikely iw uld say, esp. with decent cleaning and soapy water as you say.

RuthChan · 13/10/2007 09:33

I've been using a mooncup for more than 8 years.
Love it.
Wouldn't be without it.
Would never go back to tampons. Ever.

LoveAngel · 13/10/2007 09:39

Perhaps if it wasn't called a 'mooncup' I would be able to take it seriously.
