Habbibu · 10/10/2007 20:57

Does anybody else rather dislike the name, though? Can't think of a suitable alternative, however. At least not one that I'm not too chicken to post, which doesn't bode well for marketing.

susiecutie · 10/10/2007 22:27

It would be interesting to know how many of us are using mooncups. now think how many we are saving just on this thread alone.. let alone the rest of MN...

SO there are having had a really rough count some 60+ mooncup users on this thread. based on each laydeeee using 6 tampons a day, 4 days a month, 12 times a year... the Tampons now NOT polluting out seas, rivers etc... ( think of the landfill too, as well as the sanitary towels too! ) GRANDTOTAL is 17280

FrannyandZooey · 10/10/2007 22:33

Susie you are on fire for mooncups

quick go and do something amazing while you are feeling so evangelical

and don't forget who we REALLY have to thank for the latest round of recruits - SpookyBear, for starting this thread

susiecutie · 10/10/2007 23:21

{shock] just had a very very hairy moment with my mooncup!
I couldnt find it! my god, i've got a wizards sleeve it seems!!! and theres me thinking my lovely vaginal birth had not changed down there at all!!!

i panicked, then relaxed and my god had it been sucked up a LONG way! I could barely reach it, let alone grip it! ( tmi? )

well, a took some deep breaths and bared down, hard... and it moved a little.. but enough to grab the TINY tail i'd left on it. wish i'd not cut off so much.. turns out the problem was i needed to release the vacuum, then i slid down fairly easily.. after alot of pulling and pushing etc...

any ideas as to why it had gone so far up? i'd left it low down... bit shocked really!!! i've only been sitting down, on normal chair, typing on here! any ideas???

Spiderhammer · 10/10/2007 23:23

susie. Mine is somewhat lower slung these days.

susiecutie · 10/10/2007 23:29

ahhh, Spider, are you suggesting that it means I'mreallytight i've got good muscle tone in that area then? and this is why it vanished up the way?

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2007 09:48

I don't know Susie, I would suspect you hadn't quite got the seal right on insertion? I usually twist it and run my finger around the outside to make sure it has completely unfurled.

However of course if you prefer to believe it is because you are all snug and toned, please don't let me rain on your parade

duchesse · 11/10/2007 09:54

Am I alone in having to use Mooncup + super towel on days 2 and 3, then? I am very envious of those of you who can go for hours without emptying. I have to empty every hour-hour and a half or I'm leaking like billy-o. At least I don't have to change the towel every hour any more, so that is a positive improvement.

duchesse · 11/10/2007 09:57

Also, have never used tampons myself as I find them hideously uncomfortable, but was put off forever by seeing one floating just off the sea bed in an otherwise idyllic bit of coast in Crete many years ago. They most certainly do not break down like loo paper. Should always be wrapped and disposed of like STs.

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2007 09:57

Duchesse sorry to hear that. I know that the Mooncup holds more than the largest size of tampon or towel, but that is very hard for you to have to change so often. I know there are other MNers who have very heavy periods, so you aren't alone, but sorry to hear it anyway.

duchesse · 11/10/2007 10:07

Also I have to push mine really far up or it chafes really quickly, and all but falls out. Maybe I am constructed wrong inside... Maybe three babies have wrecked by pelvic floor.

F&Z- funny- since it's not really something Ive ever discussed with anybody, and they've always been heavy since I started, it's never occurred to me that they are especially heavy. They are just the way they are for me. I have no idea how much loss is normal.

I did realise when I first got my Mooncup and started keeping tabs, that 8 cups full in the first 24 hours was quite a lot, but as I'm not anaemic and have never had any problems other than having to change protection frequently, I've never been that bothered by it. Still, at least I am no longer using a pack or super size, four night time, and half a pack of regular per period now, which goes some way to assisting the environment, no?

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2007 10:11

Duchesse that is very very heavy indeed, and you would be perfectly justified in consulting your gp about it

however if you are used to it and it doesn't cause you any medicalo problems, then you seem to have dealt with it yourself

duchesse · 11/10/2007 10:16

F&Z -I had a Mirena coil fitted for three years, to give me a break from heavy periods while I did a PGCE and subsequent induction year(s). When I had it removed to have another baby, it took 2 years for my periods to get back to normal (ie v heavy) and I have not been able to conceive another baby (apart from my one three month pregnancy last year). So my faith in what the GP may be able to offer is somewhat limited... Frankly I'd rather feel normal with heavy periods, than ill on the Pill, or undergoing unnecessary surgery.

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2007 10:48

yes I don't blame you

no need to medicalise a problem that you have found ways to deal with

harleyweendemon · 11/10/2007 10:49

i am really starting to believe that mooncups really really do exist

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2007 10:54

LOL did you think it was the period fairy, before?

harleyweendemon · 11/10/2007 10:55

honestly i thought it was some kind of myth

like a product made up for april fools day

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2007 10:57

ah bless
no of course it makes MUCH more sense to buy expensive and uncomfortable pieces of cotton and ram them up your fanjo every month, then either stick them in the sea or pile them up in the dump

that isn't strange, at all

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 11/10/2007 11:03

mooncup = normal life, no leakage

super sized tampon (TMI ) = hourly changes and constant worry

Therfore YABU

They do look weird, they do seem strange- until you try them and then you relaise that quite apart from the environmental stuff (which is good enough in itself) they are a good idea.

Unless you're camping and use communal toilets. then they're not.

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 11/10/2007 11:09

PMSL at mooncup burkha btw

and really pmsl and the idea of hiding from dh- the man has seen me poo in childbirth, he presumably realises that a woman he has impregnated 4 times has periods therefore the sight of period protection should not be shocking him!!

susiecutie · 11/10/2007 14:22

i'm having terrible probs with it going so far up i cannot grab it easily. I still LOVE it , but its a bit of an ordeal when i have to empty...

I am checking the rim is unfurled properly, it definitely is. I have noticed if i wee first, then it is a little easier, i'm guessing that i'm not subconsciously holding the muscle any longer... i am NOT giving up, at all. just experinecing some teething probs...

SO, any ideas?
I am leaving it low down, definitely un-furled...

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2007 16:21

Have you got the right size suzie?

susiecutie · 11/10/2007 21:04

yes, I hope so! I got the one for after you've had a child. size A.
It wasnt so bad the last time i emptied it... so maybe im just getting used to it, but it was still found a long way back. aybe its becasue i'm having to just sit and lye down all the time at the moment... I'm really liking it though

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2007 21:27

I don't know if this page might help

if not I would try emailing them, they are apparently very helpful and will give as much support as necessary until you feel happy with it

susiecutie · 11/10/2007 21:49

thank you

i have been baring down to move it further down and it helps after a bit. i have noticed it comes down further if i pee before removing, so i thik it must be related to my muscles holding on to the wee.. if that makes sense! thanks again for your help, realy appreciate it
