Hi all!

Really don’t know what to do about this situation and need some advice .

I have Just left a group meeting Where a colleague told an outright lie about me in front of other members of staff and our Two Bosses.

It is regarding an incident that happened last friday and affects an individual i am responsible for-student . I wasn’t told a key piece of information about said individual.
The first i heard of it was my boss calling to Ask what happened as they had heard about the incident from another member of staff . My boss was worried and all i could say was i havent been informed i dont have any details yet.

No one had approached me during /after the incident to let me know what happened.

I feel completely betrayed .

Sorry I’m struggling to understand the full context, could you possibly share a few More details?

Did you speak up and say ‘that isn’t what happened’ when they said the lie?

damnthatanxiety · 31/08/2020 15:56

Your post in confusing. Did you first hear about it at the meeting where your colleague lied or when your boss called you? You need to explain better. Why didn't you just correct colleague when they lied?

WorraLiberty · 31/08/2020 15:59

I'm sorry, I'm also confused.

Were you in the meeting where the lie was told by the colleague or did you find out about the lie in the meeting?

MrsWooster · 31/08/2020 16:03

Get things in writing- an email /memo to everyone present, saying “dear bla, bla and blah, I was surprised to hear in the meeting on 31/8/20 that I am supposed to have xyz. I would like to clarify that I was not aware of zzz, that I took the following actions yyy etc. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings. “

LadyLairdArgyll · 31/08/2020 16:06

Get the facts, as you knew them, into your boss asap OP. Do not let this inaccuracy/lie get out of hand. Flowers

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 31/08/2020 16:09

From your OP it doesn't sound like a lie, more that your colleague told your bosses something that you weren't made aware of, and should have known about?

Ideasplease322 · 31/08/2020 16:09

This doesn’t make sense. Something happened with the student. Your boss called you about I. You hadn’t heard about the incident or didn’t know something about the student. Your then went to a meeting and someone told a lie.

You need to fill in the story a bit.

I assume someone lied and said you were aware of a moth it that you weren’t. And I hope you corrected this misunderstanding?

TheSeedsOfADream · 31/08/2020 16:11

It wasn't a lie from your OP. It was something brought up in the meeting about your student that you didn't know.

Florencex · 31/08/2020 16:14

Also confused. I think you need to provide a better description of what happened.

steff13 · 31/08/2020 16:15

Did you not speak up in the meeting, regarding the lie?

Delilahfunke · 31/08/2020 16:17

Sorry Im just very upset/annoyed i apologise for the confusion.

An incident With my student happened on friday that i was not made aware of until my boss called To Ask me about it.
I went to Ask other members of staff about what happened and they then clarified.
However at the time i was not busy so i don’t understand Why they called my boss instead of coming to me first.

At the meeting my boss was really worried and Said We need to investigate what happened on friday. I then said i was not aware of any incident . My colleague then said ” yes i came and told You about it”.

I replied by saying , Well If that was the case Why did i then go and Ask members of staff If anyone knew what happened With my student?

I feel like no one believed me and after the meeting said colleague when up to the boss to have a private Word.

Hope that makes more sense!

You are extremely defensive about this OP, which doesn't come across well tbh.

So what did you say in the meeting - what reason did you give for not being aware of the incident?

Pobblebonk · 31/08/2020 16:21

At the meeting my boss was really worried and Said We need to investigate what happened on friday. I then said i was not aware of any incident . My colleague then said ” yes i came and told You about it”.

That sounds as if you were making out that the meeting was the first time you'd heard about it, whereas of course you did know about it already. Could that have caused confusion with your boss and your colleague?

Delilahfunke · 31/08/2020 16:22

I wasn’t aware because i wasn’t informed of it.
I am expected to have responsibility for this student - i was in the same building as all the other staff and it wouldnt have been impossible for me to be told before they decide to tell my boss.

I would have appreciated a heads up.

OP posts:
Florencex · 31/08/2020 16:24

No still not understanding, you are contradicting yourself. You said you were made aware of the incident on Friday and you spoke to others about it. So on the call today, the colleague was not lying when they said you knew about it.

🤨

Delilahfunke · 31/08/2020 16:26

Aha Pobble i swym .

No the colleague maintained that she came and told me about it on Friday after the incident happened and that i had been sufficiently informed.

OP posts:
Oblomov20 · 31/08/2020 16:28

Eh? Nothing you see saying is making sense. Your boss did call you about it? You are making out the meeting was the first you'd heard about it.

DrManhattan · 31/08/2020 16:28

Why would they go over your head in the first instance?

iklboo · 31/08/2020 16:28

I think OP means people went to her boss on Friday at the time it happened rather than contact her about it first. Colleague is saying they came to make her aware of the incident shortly after it happened, when they didn't. Do colleague isn't being truthful about events.

SilverOtter · 31/08/2020 16:29

So basically someone has dropped the vall and they're trying to make you the scapegoat by claiming you knew? That's what it sounds like to me.

You need a really good chat with your bosses and emphasise that nobody told you. Presumably if they had told you they also should've documented it if it was so serious?

SilverOtter · 31/08/2020 16:29

*ball

Delilahfunke · 31/08/2020 16:29

A colleague had informed my boss about my student before me.

Before explaining the situation to me the colleague called my boss rather than telling me.

My boss then called me asking what happened and Why.

I knew nothing of said incident and i went to investigate - it was the other staff explained.

OP posts:
Delilahfunke · 31/08/2020 16:32

The other staff explained to me.

No the meeting wasn’t the first i heard about it - the first i heard was when my boss called me asking about it and Why it could have happened.

Yes ilkboo that’s exactly what i mean !

OP posts:
PanamaPattie · 31/08/2020 16:33

Where is the lie?

Oldraver · 31/08/2020 16:33

Then you need to tell your boss this and reiterate that you were not told on Friday and are not sure why collegue is lying
