For considering forward facing a two year old...

I recently took DS’s ERF car seat out and gave the covers a good scrub and rinse as with potty training (wee only!) and general life debris they were utterly rank. In the meantime we’ve been using a spare group 1 FF seat. I much prefer it! It’s about a million times easier to strap him in (being heavily pregnant this is a massive factor), he’s happier chatting to me and seeing what’s going on, if he starts shouting I can work out why pretty much immediately... it’s just so much more pleasant for both of us!

Is it really so awful to want to keep him FF? I know why ERF is recommended. I’ve seen the crash tests. I know the stats. But I also know that the overall likelihood of being in a crash remains low and that forwards facing seats do still provide protection. I just don’t know what to do now!

@whirlwindwallaby I found it so difficult to work out when I was buying a 2nd seat for my son. Here are so many different regulations and it all seems impenetrable. There is definitely a massive improvement to be made in explaining to people the options they have.

Ohtobeaseahorse.....
Its not unusual to have tall kids. Mine were born long. We are a tall family, but thats not unusual. In year 3, my childs friends came up to her torso. Not unusual at all for someone to take part in a thread. Slightly unusual that you dont seem to think people might have views different to your own though.

BertieBotts · 01/09/2020 21:11

Orchids it might be then that at 4 yours would have been too tall to fit into a 25kg seat anyway. They usually fit children up to an average of 125cm - it's not unheard of that a 4yo is too tall.

Yes I do think it's all very confusing if you're new to it! I try to explain things in an accessible way - it gets easier if you break the options down into types of seat.

Can any of you lovely ladies in the know give thoughts on this car seat?

It's a good seat :) Do you already have the base? I wouldn't get it if you don't. You can get rotating seats which are similar with the base built in for less money.

Babs709 · 01/09/2020 21:34

It’s a hand me down so going free. I kind of wanted a rotating one but we’re not made of money so it’s hard to justify

Babs709 · 01/09/2020 21:34

Thank you btw ☺️

Thanks @tootiredtothinkofanewname am confident - it’s from his “possibly loves him more than I do” auntie. Who is crazy for the safety!

snowone · 01/09/2020 21:44

I have an 18 month old. She is RF in my car (which we use the majority of the time and for all motorway : long journeys) but does FF in my husband, mums and MIL cars when they have her on occasion as their seats are all FF. if it's easier for you and you feel it is safe enough then keep him FF

BertieBotts · 01/09/2020 21:49

Are you getting the base with it? The base is £150-170 on it's own depending on where you buy it from so it may prove an expensive freebie if not!

I have just realised it's not a rotating one - it's their newer range which is modular and rotating.
