I am so shocked! Just so so sadSad

MadameBlobby · 29/08/2020 07:24

It’s terribly sad news to wake up to

Zoecarter · 29/08/2020 07:25

It’s just knocked me sideways tbh he was young and fit and had everything xx

TheHappyHerbivore · 29/08/2020 07:26

I totally understand why he didn’t want to make his diagnosis public, but it’s shocking news to hear. His poor family. I hope in time they can take comfort from how much he achieved and how much he was loved.

Same here. Black Panther is one of the films we watch over and over again, my kids especially love him. He seemed like such a nice man, and so young, what sad news.

RichPetunia · 29/08/2020 07:27

Never heard of him. Not a name I recognise, so had to google.... Still don’t recognise him. Why so devastated?

Mrsjayy · 29/08/2020 07:28

It is such a shame apparently he had been ill for a long time Sad

Rainonplain · 29/08/2020 07:31

So sad, absolutely loved Black Panther, and he came across as an all round good guy. RIP.

laylalalalao · 29/08/2020 07:33

Absolutely gutting. RIP.

Tinyleaf · 29/08/2020 07:34

Sad I get because any death is but never get why someone will be devastated when someone they don’t know has passed, even uber famous like Diana

TheHappyHerbivore · 29/08/2020 07:36

@RichPetunia he starred in Black Panther which is one of my favourite films and a really important cultural milestone (first blockbuster with an all (almost) all black cast). He was an inspirational figure for so many people, and a really talented yet humble person.

It’s so sad to lose someone so talented and with such humanity at such a young age.

Is that really necessary right now? I’m sure you know it more likely just means in this context someone feels shocked and sad, and it’s not comparable to the loss of a loved one. Why you felt the need to make such a snipey comment says more about you.
OrangeGinLemonFanta · 29/08/2020 07:37

Very sad indeed. Bit of a shock to wake to.

@RichPetunia he played Black Panther in the film of the same name. First mainstream black superhero film, fairly unthinkable (and the idea was blocked by the head of Marvel) 10 years before it happened. Part of a big cultural shift - Black Panther made a fortune at the box office and was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Plus he was a much loved and well liked 43 year old man who never even mentioned he was ill (though in recent pictures he had lost a scary amount of weight, obviously through illness). Sad news all round.

Do you not understand that people are different and think differently to you? And that on a thread such as this, the gentle, kind thing to do if you have that perspective is to think 'meh' and quietly scroll on by?

I'm so shocked. He was so young and fit. And to have filmed around having treatment- wow.

RedStreetMonument · 29/08/2020 07:42

Really shocking and I feel a bit knocked sideways, don't usually about people I don't know personally.

He had such an impact.

Really sad, he was so talented

RichPetunia · 29/08/2020 07:43

Hi Folks, thanks for explaining who he was. I’m sorry you feel his loss so keenly, it’s always devastating when a death touches you deeply.

Pancakeorcrepe · 29/08/2020 07:46

It’s so sad. He was a great talent. Black Panther is one of my favourite films, he was brilliant in it.

Singlebutmarried · 29/08/2020 07:48

Took me a moment to process. Woke up to flick through my phone and the first thing I saw was Mark Ruffalo’s tweet.

Very sad news.

PaddyF0dder · 29/08/2020 07:53

It’s just really sad.

I’m a huge marvel fan, and have loved his performance as Black Panther. He was a fantastic actor, and seemed to be right at the start of his career. It’s baffling that that’s all we’ll ever get from him. What a loss.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 29/08/2020 07:55

To the 'I don't understand why you're upset' brigade who have nothing better to do on a Saturday morning; I once read a quote about mourning the death of famous people that went something like this: 'we mourn for them not because we knew them, but because they helped us know ourselves'.

This is especially true for us in the black community, who only see ourselves being killed by police on the news, or portrayed in film as slaves, totally powerless. Other film parts are gangsters/criminals.

Black Panther was a major mainstream superhero that black children could see themselves in. To see that we too can be powerful and proud. We cannot be what we cannot see.

His death has left a huge hole in my heart and he will be greatly missed.

exLtEveDallas · 29/08/2020 07:56

@TheHappyHerbivore you may want to ask @MNHQ to amend your thread title. It’s Boseman (not a Z).

Not knocking you, but it seems disrespectful somehow to have his name spelt wrong.
