To ask what you use your iPad for?

Dh has recently bought me an iPad for my birthday, its very pretty and lovely, but I don't really know what I should be using it for?

I'm a sahm in my 30s, so don't need it for work or anything like that, so far I have looked up craft patterns, ordered some crap from amazon and been on Mumsnet, but I really feel like I'm not taking full advantage of it as I mostly use my iPhone for things, so aibu to ask what do you actually use yours for?

I bought a cheap amazon stylus and use it for doodling on sketchbook and amaziograph- very mindful and relaxing. I also have kindle downloaded so read on there. I carry it about the house for Spotify and (my favourite use) I watch Netflix in the bath!

nokidshere · 26/08/2020 16:10

Absolutely everything!

Shopping, banking, emails, calander, ,browsing, chatting, photoshop, photographs, designing stuff, playing games..

MissConductUS · 26/08/2020 16:11

I watch Netflix a lot on mine, and Amazon Prime Video. I also check email on it and do some web browsing.

Megantheestallion · 26/08/2020 16:11

Watching movies while travelling. Jazz FM/movies in the bath.

Whatthebloodyell · 26/08/2020 16:12

Mostly watching Netflix or I player whilst cooking or in the bath.

Babs709 · 26/08/2020 16:13

I’ve got nothing to add as I don’t have an iPad but I just wanted to say I love the idea of jazz in the bath! Super fancy.

AgentJohnson · 26/08/2020 16:14

Everything you do on your iPhone you can do on your iPad (the cellular version). The screen is larger therefore many tasks are easier to navigate. I bought an Apple Pencil for my Pro and I use it to draw.

FattyBoom · 26/08/2020 16:14

Anything I'd use my phone for - games, emasculated, social media, online shopping. I also use as my kindle, do spreadsheets etc on it, use it as a notebook

dwiz8 · 26/08/2020 16:14

I only use mine to download videos on for trips, holidays, the gym etc

I tend to use my phone for 99% of my online activities and have used my iPad less and less over the years

FattyBoom · 26/08/2020 16:14

Emasculated?? That should be email 🤣

FattyBoom · 26/08/2020 16:15

Oh and I have the Sky app so download/watch films and tv (particularly handy when travelling)

Knittedfairies · 26/08/2020 16:15

I thought you had an app I hadn't found...
itsgettingweird · 26/08/2020 16:16

Mumsnet!

Watching tv.

Emails.

Various apps for ds swimming etc.

Reading the news.

Playing games

Probably not as much as I could use it for!

makingbacon · 26/08/2020 16:17

Both DH and I have AirMacs which we find easier to use than the iPad. DCs have iPads which we just use for long trips to keep them entertained or play a game on during a rainy day (or lockdown 🙄) and literally nothing else!

WitchQueenofDarkness · 26/08/2020 16:18

Email
Playing games
Internet
kindle replacement

The sound failed on mine a while ago so no good for music, movies or podcasts.

veewee · 26/08/2020 16:22

Wow, thank you all for the quick replies!

I didn't really want to bog it up with games etc which I use my phone for, but I do very much like the idea of doodling, which apps do you all use? Also, does anyone know of any good writing apps? I quite fancy trying my hand at a bit of short story writing. Thank you all again.

I watch shows on streaming services (eg move it round the house while doing stuff), read and listen to audiobooks, read papers for work and doodle with my Apple Pencil.

I like the sound of audio apps. I'd like this whilst cooking - any suggestions?
reefedsail · 26/08/2020 16:26

I didn't find mine all that useful until I had an apple pencil. Now I use it all the time with OneNote as a planner/ notebook/ diary/ to do list. I love being able to custom build notebooks and have them exactly how I want them. Mainly for work though- I probably wouldn't use it so much if I was at home. I do have personal things on there as well though and if I had to give my work on back I would buy one.

Glitteryone · 26/08/2020 16:27

Everything! Shopping, online browsing, etc but mainly as a TV - I put Netflix on it when I’m bed or in the kitchen.

minicat · 26/08/2020 16:28

@itsgettingweird BBC Sounds, Audible and possibly some through your local library - I can use my library card to borrows ebooks and audiobooks on a couple of apps called Libby and BorrowBox. Your local library website might have details if they offer something similar.

minicat · 26/08/2020 16:29

Oh and speaking of cooking, Paprika is great for recipes. It’s paid for but you pay once and can then use it on iPhone, iPad and possibly desktop but not sure.

JacobReesMogadishu · 26/08/2020 16:30

Mainly internet.....I find my phone too small.

Also playing mahjong and solitaire.

I’m sure I could use it for a lot more.

JacobReesMogadishu · 26/08/2020 16:31

Oh and the kindle app for reading books.

Holothane · 26/08/2020 16:39

Everything, emails, shopping, the grocery shop, I have the 12 inch one and I love it means I can play simple games like jigsaws, colour by numbers you can blow the tiny bits right up. I’m registered blind I so the 12 inch is a godsend my next one will be 12 inch as well.
