Mine know I like my fitness/gym time but don't know just how much of a huge part of my life it is.

They don't know I was bullied out of my previous position.

They don't know that I have been home studying to further my career.

They know the main facts and goings on but not really the nitty gritty - e.g. how I feel about things/if something bothers me. For example, a little while ago I had the afternoon as annual leave because I needed a lump removed/biopsied. I was a bit concerned because the doctor didn't seem too optimistic and the procedure was not too pleasant. But that didn't really come up at work - it was either just a medical appointment or an afternoon off for the people who needed to know I wouldn't be there.

maddiemookins16mum · 27/08/2020 07:40

I’m a recovering alcoholic. They think I don’t drink because it gives me horrendous headaches after half a glass of wine.

HeretoThereandBackAgain · 27/08/2020 07:42

Not currently working, but looking back I realise how little anyone actually knew about me.

They didn’t know my family background (titled).
Knew about one degree but not the other two.
That I attempted suicide because of the stress of the job. I was able to pass off the attempt as an accident/narrow escape and even returned to work that afternoon.
That I intensely dislike kids.
That I never watched television and actually didn’t own a TV for about 3 years. The ancient one I had chucked it and I just never bothered replacing it. Only got another one when OH moved in.
That I’m a classically trained singer.
That I read insanely quickly.
That I failed my driving test six times.
That I have knackered lungs and may well need a transplant in the future and take a cocktail of pills and inhalers to keep me functional.
That I have god-awful hallucinating nightmares almost every night.

In fact, they knew my name and the fact I was married and not much else!

SummerPoppies · 27/08/2020 07:50

That although I'm white, I'm not British and that my family still live in my home country.
Or that I'm married ( to a British man ) with kids and have been for the last 36 years.

Lndnmummy · 27/08/2020 08:06

The extent of my mental health issues. That I’m sometimes popping propranolol like smarties. They don’t know how much weight I have put on during lockdown. They also don’t know that I sued my previous employer for discrimination (and won!)

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 27/08/2020 17:31

That I am currently having CBT due to OCD. I'm not embarrassed about the CBT but the OCD can be debilitating at times but I hide it very well and some of the things I can't hide I act as if it's an eccentricity of mine. It can be exhausting.

spongebunnyfatpants · 27/08/2020 17:41

That my ex is serving life in prison for a double murder.

Minxmumma · 27/08/2020 17:42

That I have cancer, that I know my H has cheated on me twice with a work colleague (she doesn't know that I know)

They are nice enough people but I am a very private person and choose not to be the subject of gossip or pity.

CLH77 · 27/08/2020 17:43

That I've just been made redundant. I'm. On furlough so not sure the company will even bother to tell anyone there...

toobloominghot · 27/08/2020 17:43

In a previous role I went through cancer treatment without anyone knowing. Surgery and follow up treatments all done with holiday time booked off. I couldn't bear the pity. I'm clear now and no regrets how I handled it

StinkEye · 27/08/2020 17:48

That i'm a functioning stoner, pretty much during every work call.

And it's really no big deal having sex at work (unless your work in a prison).

Imissmoominmama · 27/08/2020 17:53

That I’m in so much pain some days, I go to the loo to cry. That I have MH issues.

Belleoverandover · 27/08/2020 17:55

That I'm still married. They've assumed I'm not and that OH is useless (the last bit is true)

Olderkids · 27/08/2020 17:56

That I was unmarried when I had my daughter. I have lied about the date I married.
That's how messed up my mother made me over the shameful thing I had done.

MelodysMomma · 27/08/2020 17:57

That my MH is worse than people realise and I struggle every day with the most mundane of tasks, also that it makes me feel quite ashamed of how weak I am 😔

Belleoverandover · 27/08/2020 18:01

I can sympathise MaMisled

pleasehelpwi3 · 27/08/2020 18:01

Having repeated this on an earlier thread, a colleague is someone you work with so ‘work colleague’ is a tautology!
Some of mine know lots, others next to nothing....

Belleoverandover · 27/08/2020 18:02

@MaMisled

That my house is a shithole. I'm in a senior position, smart, clean, fairly well groomed and professional.
I can totally sympathise MaMisled
JM10 · 27/08/2020 18:17

Depends on the colleague. Some know just the basics about me, some know a bit more. One is one of my best friends so knows pretty much everything there is to know about me.

raspberrylimoncello · 27/08/2020 18:26

Most of my colleagues don’t know that I was pregnant and had a stillborn. I returned to work after 6 weeks and people kept asking me if I had a nice “holiday” assuming I’d been off on a long trip. Very bizarre but ultimately easier than telling people the truth.

Proseccoistheanswer · 27/08/2020 18:39

That my husband lost his job during lockdown

That a colleague 17 years younger has been trying to have sex with me for 5 years (maybe he doesn’t know my true age!)

That I grew up in a council flat

CockysGirl · 27/08/2020 18:46

That their pleasant, middle aged, sensible colleague is actually shagging someone young enough to be her son!

consfusedandlookingforwine · 27/08/2020 18:47

They don’t know that the reason I’m constantly having my nails and feet done is because I sell feet pics, worn socks, stockings and panties and that’s how I paid for my new car.

Highfalutinlootin · 27/08/2020 18:48

That I'm a gender critical feminist who knows that trans women are men.

TheWashingMachine · 27/08/2020 18:48

I'm fairly open and quite eccentric, I think people give away more than they realise.

Everyone at my work knows I had PND, I didn't work for eight years and told them in my interview.

Also I had a ruptured ectopic, it happened at work and I collapsed and paramedics came to the office, I was in and out of consciousness in a meting room with internal bleeding. Thank goodness I had told a woman in HR I was pregnant, she called the ambulance and told them I was pregnant and I had a full blood transfusion. Since then I've not been to bothered about revealing my personal details.
