how old were you when you had your children

I had ds1 at 21 ds2 24 ds3 at 28. Did you feel too old or too young? Or was the age just right for you. I feel that it would have been better for me if I had had my first at 28.

36, 39 and 41. Perfect. I had a very full life before they came along and my husband and I often reminisce about our lives back then. I’m a bit sad that I will be old when our kids become adults - one will turn 18 in the year that I turn 60! So may never enjoy or be able to help out that with grandchildren. There are pros and cons of having kids at different ages xx

KnobblyWand · 25/08/2020 08:14

DS when I was 20.
DD when I was 23.
DD2 when I was 26.

No regrets whatsoever, and the only time I felt 'too young' was when I was undermined and belittled by health visitors and nurses who scoffed when I told them I was exclusively breastfeeding, as though I was lying Confused

I wanted to have completed my family before I was 30. I'm 30 now and I'm completely content!

happymummy12345 · 25/08/2020 08:15

I was 22

StepAwayFromGoogle · 25/08/2020 08:17

38 and 41. Ideally I'd have had them a few years earlier but I didn't meet someone I wanted to have children with until I was 34. Wouldn't change them for the world.

EventRider1 · 25/08/2020 08:17

25 when I had my DD. Hoping to have the next in 2-3 years time so 27-28 years old.

bambinaballerina · 25/08/2020 08:19

DS at 25, DD at 27. I hadn't really thought about having kids before, it was more done on a whim, after we got married. But we were settled and have grandparents who are happy to help and live nearby (and are still very fit). If I had been in a more precarious situation I would have waited.
We also discovered we are very laid back parents, and travelled to very weird destinations with them. Nothing prepares you to have children.

I feel it was the right age for me, I had done all the things I had wanted to before having children.

I think everyone’s situation is so unique that there is no ideal age.

Initforthecake1980 · 25/08/2020 08:25

Very average among my social circle.

BikeTyson · 25/08/2020 08:25
  1. It felt about right but we’d been trying for 3 years so ideally I would have been 30.
BowowMttt · 25/08/2020 08:28

I was 24 but I’ve always been friends with much older people so it didn’t feel too young. I was fed up with my career choice and am enjoying myself as a SAHM before I retrain into a new career.

Porcupineinwaiting · 25/08/2020 08:38

32 and 34. Wouldnt have minded starting a couple of years earlier to make room for a dc3.

funinthesun19 · 25/08/2020 08:38

DS1 21
DS2 23
DS3 25
DD 28

25 and 26, I was classed as a old mum (geriatric) at 26.
Different times in the 1980’s

PopsicleHustler · 25/08/2020 08:46

Had my first son at 20, then my daughter at 25, had my second son at 28, then my second daughter who is my 4th child at 30. Am now approaching 33 and expecting my 5th child. Couldn't be happier

PaperMonster · 25/08/2020 08:47
  1. Ideally would have been a bit younger but life played out differently to what I expected!
Shayisgreat · 25/08/2020 08:48
  1. Physically I felt too old. Socially, emotionally and financially it was just about right. Hoping to have DC2 next year at 36. Dreading the pregnancy and I won't want another.
littlepeas · 25/08/2020 08:50

25, 27 and 28. I liked being youngish - I think it was easier to get through the disrupted nights and so on. I also recovered very quickly physically, despite 3 c sections in 3 years. I am about to turn 38 and know it would be a lot harder now.

My career definitely suffered though. There are pros and cons no matter what age you decide to go for it.

RowboatsinDisguise · 25/08/2020 08:50

First just after I turned 26, second I will be 28 (due in Nov).

I’m younger than a lot of my mum friends but I don’t feel too young.

rottiemum88 · 25/08/2020 08:51

Had DS when I was 30, just about to turn 31.

It felt like a good age to me and I'd say I'm roughly in the middle in terms of friends who'd started having children before me or have had them since/are still waiting.

BammBamm · 25/08/2020 08:51

28 and 30. I still felt too young to have a baby!

LST · 25/08/2020 08:53

21 and 23. Perfect age. I am 30 now and my disability it worse than it was when I had my first so I am happy I had them when I did.

rabbitheadlights · 25/08/2020 08:54

22, 25, 29, 32, 33, 34 and 35

Thisischocolate · 25/08/2020 08:57

40

Would have been better to have had first baby earlier so that there was time to have a second child. Then had a miscarriage at 41 and decided after that that we wouldn’t try again as I felt I was pushing the limits for a baby and I to be safe and healthy.
