After being ‘told off’ in front of a group to leave group after

Group activity. I OK’d it with assistant group lead to basically go to the loo. I inadvertently caused a 5 minute delay in the group activity. It’s a social group. When I returned, I was told off by the group lead in front of the whole group.

When told off, I agreed not to do this again. I felt awful.

I’d really like the activity and if I left there is no alternative locally.

How do I get past the humiliation of being told off. WWYD?

Perhaps this group lead is too hard core for me? Perhaps the lead was acting in response to complaints from the group?

Cycling group? Running group? Male lead?

Bluntness100 · 23/08/2020 19:48

What was the activity op? I assume they couldn’t start without you? And you knew this and went just when they Were ready to start?

I think if you have a sudden need you have a sudden need, and the leader shouldn’t have told you off, but I also guess they were all a bit pissed off sitting waiting for you.

BitOfFun · 23/08/2020 19:52

Isn't that discriminatory against people with medical conditions?

CherryPavlova · 23/08/2020 19:52

Just go to the loo sooner next time and tell the assembled group you’ve been this time so won’t delay their start time. Then smugly grin like an idiot at the leader.

Polnm · 23/08/2020 19:53

@PicsInRed

Cycling group? Running group? Male lead?
Both those activities go on the move
Sargass0 · 23/08/2020 19:54

Is it Brownies?

Greenglassteacup · 23/08/2020 19:55

How weird

Butchyrestingface · 23/08/2020 19:57

What exactly was said, @31133004Taff?

Verbatim, if poss. Grin

OhCaptain · 23/08/2020 19:57

What?! Confused

helpfulperson · 23/08/2020 19:58

It really depends on what it is. If you are the referee or leading lady in a performance or some other time dependent role then I can see why they would cross. Otherwise yes I'd be pissed of

PicsInRed · 23/08/2020 20:00

Both those activities go on the move

What, like the astronaut stalker lady? 😂

BeverlyHa · 23/08/2020 20:01

I have bladder issue and make it clear i always go before any social activity

So far people telling me i am too young for it and this or that, it never bother me, the truth is: I NEED TO GO TO WEE VERY OFTEN AND MY NEED IS WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO ME

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 23/08/2020 20:04

Was it right at the beginning and you had plenty of opportunity to go before...or did you rush in bang on time and then cause a delay by going to the loo.?

RowboatsinDisguise · 23/08/2020 20:04

I’m pregnant. My running group fully appreciate that they may have to hang around for me to wee in a bush occasionally.

I really can’t think of an activity where someone needing a wee can’t be accommodated by reasonable adults.

31133004Taff · 23/08/2020 20:04

Thanks for your responses. Many made me laugh and have lightened my mood.

Yep! Time to move on from this one. I think they’re too hardcore for me.

OP posts:
Hairhelp234 · 23/08/2020 20:04

Sod that, can you email the lead and tell them how it’s not ok to Shame you for that?

Zaphodsotherhead · 23/08/2020 20:05

I think you should very quietly take the complaining person aside and explain that you had okayed your toilet visit and they really shouldn't raise how long someone takes in the toilet as an objection. For anyone who's suffering a difficult period, has IBS, fibroids, constipation, having their toilet visits timed could be termed discriminatory couldn't it?

Or are you only allowed to take part in this activity if you are in completely robust health both inside and out?

fwwaftp · 23/08/2020 20:08

What sort of activity is it?
I couldn't be bothered with having to ask to go to the toilet and then get told off about it by someone else.
I'd find something else to do in my spare time.

If I had been told I wouldn't have agreed not to do it again (as I would not be able to promise that I wouldn't need the loo again). I'd have said "What did you want me to do? Wet myself?"
Yes, rude of me, but being told off would have pissed me off.

Moranne · 23/08/2020 20:09

WTF of course it is, look where the keys are on the keyboard and what autocorrect may have done.

Typo does not mean what you appear to think it means. "Played" may be an autocorrect or an error on your part if you were distracted, but neither is a typo.

Moranne · 23/08/2020 20:10

I think they’re too hardcore for me.

What sort of activity is it that you feel this toilet-incident is "too hardcore"?

Greenglassteacup · 23/08/2020 20:10

You have to tell us what activity this is OP!!!

Rosehip10 · 23/08/2020 20:11

You should have just cut the leader off saying, "I let the assistant leader know" not that any activity for adults should have to "ok" someone going to the loo - depending on exact situation a quick "I'm just popping to the loo" if it is courteous for the situation, but nothing else. Or are people expected to wet/soil themselves in this group?

Wishimaywishimight · 23/08/2020 20:17

MN seems like a parallel universe at times. There are threads I really don't understand. I don't consider myself to be particularly confrontational but if I was told off for going to the loo I would be saying "Are you seriously berating me for going to the toilet? Seriously?" OP, you're a grown up. How can you just stand there and take a telling off??

DiddlySquatty · 23/08/2020 20:18

Not the point of the thread but I’m really curious what the activity is - so many groups not happening at the moment like normal?

Zaphodsotherhead · 23/08/2020 20:20

Is it cricket? And the whole match has to be paused if one player nips off to the loo? Or a similar team game?
