AIBU - 9 Bedrooms but 16 bathrooms ?

A recent article saying that Meghan and Harry’s new house had the above got me thinking.
I notice lots of big posh houses seem to have up to double the amount of bathrooms that’s bedrooms. Why ?
What do they need all those bathrooms for ?
Any ideas ?

I live in the US and it's common here. I've lived here for 10 years and still don't understand why.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/08/2020 14:14

One per expected person plus guests?😁

Stackys · 23/08/2020 14:14

I can’t understand why a couple with one child would want 9 bedrooms never mind all those bathrooms. If I won the lottery I’d buy a 5 bed house max. And that’s only because I’d want a secluded house in the country and they all tend to have 5 bedrooms.

SeaState3 · 23/08/2020 14:16

Maybe some of the bathrooms are just loos or maybe some of the bedrooms have ‘his n hers’ bathrooms off them.

But at the end of the day who gives a tufty turd about their house!

Brashopper · 23/08/2020 14:17

If they are double bedrooms then it’s 16 bathrooms for 18 people.

Almost no queuing to use the shower or waiting to use the loo.

bookmum08 · 23/08/2020 14:17

'Bathroom' in the USA does apply to just the lav though. So not actually full bathrooms with bath, shower, sink etc.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/08/2020 14:21

Don't forget spare bathroom for tradesmen. We wouldn't want them using ours ones, would we😁

SantaClaritaDiet · 23/08/2020 14:23

I'd rather have extra bathrooms than being stuck with this revolting habit of having loos in bathrooms like we love to do in this country. Lucky them they can afford a nice place! I would do the same if I could.

Why on earth would anyone be happy to share their private bathroom with complete strangers?
Port1aCastis · 23/08/2020 14:24

Why does the Queen have Buck House, Balmoral, Sandringham, Windsor Castle all with several baths and loos maybe a loo nearby is convenient for them and their staff

sst1234 · 23/08/2020 14:30

The more bathrooms, the better. Maybe double the number of bathrooms vs bedroom aka excessive but at least one bathroom per bedroom. I don’t understand it when people live in a 5 bedroom detached house with one en-suite.

OhToBeASeahorse · 23/08/2020 14:30

I thought that too!

Obviously you arent going to have a house that big and be cleaning it yourself but if I was the cleaner I'd be tempted to put an out of order sign on at least some of them! (We have 4 loos in our house and DH isnt allowed to use 2 of them for the same reason!)

Thisisnotreallymyname · 23/08/2020 14:38

We have a 5 bedroom house, one main bathroom, one ensuite, and one downstairs loo. Always found that plenty tbh.

Rachellow · 23/08/2020 14:55

I would have thought the bedrooms have all got en suites and then you need some stand alone bathrooms so guests don't have to go into your bedroom etc.

They probably have several live-in staff who need bedrooms.
soberfabulous · 23/08/2020 15:02

We have a 4 bedroom house and 4 bathrooms. 2 are en suite. One is stand alone. And one is a downstairs loo. More the better!

1forAll74 · 23/08/2020 15:10

Does this mean that Meghan has to stock up with 500 hundred toilet rolls in her trolley every time she goes to Walmart. Not to mention, 16 toilet brushes ,and gallons of bleach. !!

MouthBreathingRage · 23/08/2020 15:19

I'm sure the Daily Mail can add 'having literally too many pots to piss in', to their ever growing list of grievances against Meghan Markle.

MsEllany · 23/08/2020 15:21

Am I alone in wondering what the boiler situation is in a house like that?!

We have a combi. Don’t think that would work there. Bet the hot water tank is the size of a small pool.

Fanciedachange1 · 23/08/2020 15:29

I’m a regular rightmove checker and I am often amazed by the amount of bathrooms some houses have!

Dh, And I, have no kids and I find a family bathroom and downstairs loo is plenty.

I'm not a fan of cleaning the bathroom so the thought of a house with multiple en suites etc fills me with dread! I see the appeal of a toilet on each floor and en-suites if you have a larger family.

Minimumstandard · 23/08/2020 15:34

Why would you want separate bathrooms in young children's bedrooms? Though I can see the appeal when they become teens.

SapphireSeptember · 23/08/2020 15:35

Reading about five bed houses with only one bathroom makes me feel nervy, it's like houses round here only have one loo between three/four bedrooms, and yet both my childhood homes, my nan's house and my aunt's all had downstairs loos.

BrieAndChilli · 23/08/2020 15:39

I imagine there will be a couple of bathrooms attached to the pool house for showering after swimming, probably a guard/security hit which will have loo, staff loo off the kitchen somewhere, master bed suite probably has 2 bathrooms and probably a seperate loo so they don’t have to poo in the room they have a bath in, several toilets downstairs for quests, if house is big enough for a ballroom type of entertaining space there will be several toilets attached to that, at least another toilet in the garden somewhere so you don’t have to traipse inside. I think I also read it had a spa/treatment rooms so probably bathrooms/loo attached to that for washing off fake tan, lotions etc.

Temp123999 · 23/08/2020 15:57

@Thisisnotreallymyname
I'm guessing your real name is Piers Morgan
Lots of celebrities have multiple bathrooms and en-suites so why make another Meghan bashing post.
Leave the woman alone FFS she's been driven out of the country you should be happy.

Staffy1 · 23/08/2020 16:02

I'm assuming the tradesmen would only be using the toilet, not having a bath. We only have one bathroom/toilet and I wouldn't be having a fit about a tradesman using it.
