AIBU - 9 Bedrooms but 16 bathrooms ?

A recent article saying that Meghan and Harry’s new house had the above got me thinking.
I notice lots of big posh houses seem to have up to double the amount of bathrooms that’s bedrooms. Why ?
What do they need all those bathrooms for ?
Any ideas ?

I’d always assumed it was for the legions of live-out staff and employees who’ll be at the house every day.

9 bedrooms means it can comfortable fit 18+ people

Just under 1 bathroom each which isn't abnormal (my house for example is 5 bed 5 bathrooms inc the en-suite)

I'd rather have extra bathrooms than being stuck with this revolting habit of having loos in bathrooms

You’d hate me I’ve just taken down a wall separating a loo from a bathroom to make a much bigger room with a large shower, and much bigger bath.

There are 9 bedrooms, most likely each with their own bathrooms.

There are several patios and out buildings. Let’s call those another 3 bathrooms and we’re now down to 4 left.

Besides the house being generally large, I believe there are rooms such as a cinema, library, etc which would likely have a bathroom nearby when entertaining guests or just for yourself so you don’t have to walk across the house. By the time you distribute the remaining 4 full or half bathrooms across the square footage of the house, you’ve covered your bases.

9 + 3 outside + 4 distributed across the house = 16.

This isn’t wholly unbelievable for a house of that size. That said, I tend find the number of bathrooms in U.K. houses lacking.

Reminds me of a hotel we stayed at in the Czech Republic a few years ago. Our part of the hotel had 2 bathrooms between 15 rooms. One was for washing their dog.

Toilet off a study; a work room; in a reception area; for the gymn; for the cinema room; for the pool? You could quickly add bathrooms if you're in a substantial enough place to have 9 bedrooms.

I'd say Master bedroom has two bathrooms, plus an ensuite in all the rest = 10.

Then one by the pool for showering, one by the tennis court ditto. +2

One/two downstairs for day guests. +2

Then a couple in the staff quarters! 16!

Me too, discuss bathroom bedroom to you heart’s content but the Meghan bashing is getting tedious and of course it’s nothing to do with her race despite other members of the Royal family plus celebrities having far bigger houses

I love my bathrooms (all 2 of them plus a shower room!)

They bought the house they haven't designed or remodelled it have they? So meh, it's how it was built. As pp said they'd probably need 1 or 2 loos for the pool area alone so doesn't seem unreasonable to me. No different to other rich/famous folk in that area sooooo whatever

My message was NOT about Harry and Meghan, I merely stated that reading about how many bathrooms they had made me wonder about how many bathrooms a house needs. I couldn’t care less about H&M as such !!

Shhh, let's not ruin the witch-hunt fun. Let's pretend the Queen and all the other "beloveds" don't own masses of properties and unused space (bathrooms, living rooms, grounds, etc).

H&M are Megan is the only one who's ever had such and we've just heard about it for the first time in our lives.

Allegedly, when Prince Charles and Diana got divorced, Duchy (of Cornwall) tenant farmers had to endure a massive rent hike to pay for the divorce settlement. Now those tenant farmers will be grumbling that their rent goes towards remodelling work on Harry and Meg’s mansion for things such as a sprung-floor yoga studio, and refunding the work done on Frogmore cottage.

A few of the bedroom suites probably have his and hers en-suites. That could be eleven bathrooms upstairs.
