To think that there's loads of famous people using MN?

Just that. I've noticed a few threads recently saying they knew someone famous or were a newsreader/in the media and I was thinking is MN just full of famous people having discussions on threads that they couldn't do face to face for fear of bad press.

You let your chauffeur into the kitchen? Dear me, that's definitely not on. Outside staff dear.

WaterOffADucksCrack · 23/08/2020 17:12

Think whatever you like, it's not unreasonable Well there we have it fellow posters. We can can cancel aibu! @Lockheart has it all solved!

oakleaffy · 23/08/2020 17:18

Famous or infamous - That is the question.

So say famous people are just like the rest of us, except when they 'Fall from grace', it is public and painful.

I can imagine Prince Harry glumly looking at some threads about ' 'Am I being used?'
Maybe my post will be deleted.

Anordinarymum · 23/08/2020 17:20

I'll have you all know,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, a lot of people know me

dottiedodah · 23/08/2020 17:29

This is the whole thing here though isnt it? We can speak to all types of people! Most of my friends have a similar lifestyle to me ,and are of the same middle class demographic.Same for many others too! However we can chat to people who are famous (apparently!) wealthy and some with a different lifestyle .Its what makes it great!

HollowTalk · 23/08/2020 17:31

I first knew about MN because India Knight and someone I can't remember wrote a book about low carbing and posted about it on here. Just trying to remember - did she ask MNetters to try out her diet?

I think there are tons of well known people on here - why wouldn't they be here?

CharismaticVic · 23/08/2020 17:35

Thanks for responses. When I say famous people I just mean those in the public eye - there have been a few 'but they are just like us' posts and I agree, I'm not putting people on pedestals. I just find it interesting that you might be on a thread arguingdisagreeing with someone and they are a politician or singer or writer.

I wonder if my DH's SIL is on here.

fsklgf · 23/08/2020 18:15

The thing you have to remember is just because someone is "known" they aren't all shiny glittery and golden, they are normal folk too just doing a job in the public eye

This. Which is why comments like this: People are deluded if they think someone like JK Rowling would waste their time on this site are so strange. Why WOULDN'T JK Rowling waste her time on this site? Does someone being famous suddenly mean they don't ever piss about on the internet?

TableFlowerss · 23/08/2020 18:17

I think the thought of being famous for many people is incredible- adoration, financially lucrative for less effort etc, however, that comes at a pice: your freedom.

I can’t imagine not being able to go to the supermarket or take my kids to a toddler group/park without people bombarding you. Must be a pain. So what are they meant to do, stay home all day? How boring.

So it bc wouldn’t surprise me if some are on here as they won’t be able to leave the house as freely as the average person.

I’m not talking about z lists celebs, I’m talking about really famous people, that the majority of people would recognise. It must be quite hard for them imo.

Exactly If you could have a wealth of knowledge of what other people, strangers or mates or work colleagues, thought of you, wouldn't you go and look? I know I would! You would be weird if you didn't.

I saw an interview with Robbie Williams and he said he obviously checks. Most of it is bollocks and cracks him up. But he said he needs to do it not to check he's still relevant because at this stage unless he was utterly careless he could retire now and be financially sound, it's more to check what his kids may read about him in the future and in his position, he will be prepared for questions on his antics pre being with their mum.
I doubt he's the only one.

IAmTooBloodyHot · 23/08/2020 18:44

@LadyofTheManners

Kirstie isn't a Z Lister! She's hardly a Love Island 15 minute of fame and pneumatic lips person is she? In fact she is really quite nice IRL. I could tell you ones who aren't nice but I'd get banned and probably sued
Kirstie, is that you?

If it is I'd just like to say I love your Christmas craft show location x3 not so much Grin

KingFredsTache · 23/08/2020 18:53

Yes, I don't know if she has ever actually posted but JK Rowling has definitely spent time on the FWR part of this website!

I remember Jack Monroe coming onto a thread a few years ago. Clemmie Hooper (Mother of Daughters) as well, although I'm not sure she counts as a 'celebrity'. She got really pissed off because someone referred to her husband as 'a wanker'! 😂 And then he did a really cringey stories about it on Instagram!

KingFredsTache · 23/08/2020 18:57

Oh and Susie Verrill and I think Anna Whitehouse, Mother Pukka (although again I'm not sure they count as actual celebs) have been on here before as well.

LadyofTheManners · 23/08/2020 19:03

No definitely not Kirstie, although I do wish I had her crafting ability and collection of dresses
She is a lovely person to talk to though.
Quite a few of them are, I suppose if you get very very famous it would be easy to fall for your own hype. But most whom I've met have, with a few notable and in some cases disappointing exceptions have been very down to earth and normal people who like a laugh, and in many cases can laugh at themselves.

Windyjuly · 23/08/2020 19:06

Also, writing, acting etc professions even the royals have so much '' resting '' time in between jobs.

ILoveFlumps · 23/08/2020 19:06

Totally missing the point here, but why do people dislike Jack Monroe so much? I thought she seemed quite nice.....

Hullo · 23/08/2020 19:09

LadyOfTheManners is bursting at the seams to tell someone who they are/ for someone to "guess" who they are/know they're "famous" in some way, rubbing shoulders with the famous and all. Go on, then. Do tell or stop alluding tempting us nosey folks.

I've met her and she is really lovely to talk to.
Stamen196 · 23/08/2020 19:16

Just wondering why everyone seems to be sure that JK Rowling is on here? Is there some kind of evidence from interviews? Just being nosy!

Marmunia1975 · 23/08/2020 19:20

Yes, there are. I work in media and I have famous friends who use it. Plenty of authors are here.

Tistheseason17 · 23/08/2020 19:26

Jack Monroe sued Katie Hopkins and won - and she was classy about it. That's good enough for me.

If she's not Kirstie maybe she is Phil? 😂
MabelWotsits · 23/08/2020 19:33

Jools Oliver and Davinia are both on here. SIL know them.

Kaiserin · 23/08/2020 19:36

Famous people, probably. I'm sure they love gossiping just as much as anyone else. And the anonymity is alluring.
But also media people (especially tabloids), looking for juicy stories...
And PR people, gauging public opinion on certain topics.
