To think that there's loads of famous people using MN?

Just that. I've noticed a few threads recently saying they knew someone famous or were a newsreader/in the media and I was thinking is MN just full of famous people having discussions on threads that they couldn't do face to face for fear of bad press.

OP posts:
LadyofTheManners · 23/08/2020 16:12

It's what constitutes fame though isn't it?
In my field I'm well known. But the rest of you not in my field wouldn't have a clue who I was. And yes it is in the entertainment industry. I know famous people. I often (pre-Covid) go out for dinner or a coffee with them.
The thing you have to remember is just because someone is "known" they aren't all shiny glittery and golden, they are normal folk too just doing a job in the public eye.
Although, the weirdest for me was when someone recognised me quite out the blue in a tube station waiting for a tube. She was quite impressed too. I was baffled that she knew who I was. But that's the only time it's happened when I've not been in circles with people who would know me or out with others in the same field.

@FlamingoAndJohn

Someone I work with mentioned MN the other day, he's an 18 year old lad and was very disparaging about it. Dunno what his problem is

It's women talking together. That is enough to piss off a lot of people. Also look at how it gets mentioned on popular culture. Even something like Outnumbered, which you would think would be a bit better, still uses it in the 'silly mummies/complaining women' way.

Tbh most posters don't help with that stereotype
WiltedWillows · 23/08/2020 16:17

@EinsteinaGogo

As a PP just said, Jo Brand references Mumsnet in her latest book.

She did actually say 'xxxxxxx' is my Mumsnet username but I've forgotten what it was !

I love Jo Brand

WiltedWillows · 23/08/2020 16:20

I do know Jade from Little Mix posts in The Daily Fail under an Anon username to defend the group from all the hatred they get, so nothing is impossible.

Patbutcherismyhero · 23/08/2020 16:22

I'm sure someone said Jack Monroe is on here and regularly reports any negative threads about her of which there are many.

JacobReesMogadishu · 23/08/2020 16:22

@Butchyrestingface

Wasn't it Amanda Holden who spat the dummy when she read something about herself she didn't like?

Apologies, Amanda, if you are here and it was someone else. Wink

And Victoria beckham. She mentioned MN in an interview and it was me who’d stared the thread she didn’t like.Confused
Windyjuly · 23/08/2020 16:24

If I was famous I'd definitely use mumsnet.
It's perfect for anyone wanting to be anonymous and asking about anything.

GreyGardens88 · 23/08/2020 16:31

Z-listers like Kirstie Alsopp and Amanda Holden maybe

FlibbertyGiblets · 23/08/2020 16:34

GreyGardens88 genuine question. Why so sour, referring to people as "Z Listers" is very dismissive. What skin have you in this game?

Hullo · 23/08/2020 16:34

Online life.

To think that there's loads of famous people using MN?
LadyofTheManners · 23/08/2020 16:42

Kirstie isn't a Z Lister! She's hardly a Love Island 15 minute of fame and pneumatic lips person is she?
In fact she is really quite nice IRL.
I could tell you ones who aren't nice but I'd get banned and probably sued

Sophiafour · 23/08/2020 16:42

In terms of monitoring, I'm sure their PR reps/companies will be keeping an eagle eye on this and other forums to gauge popular opinion when it comes to the egos they're looking after....(with apologies to any famous people lurking about who aren't egotistical and genuinely just head here for the craic, as it were....)

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 23/08/2020 16:47

I love the fact that there might be a forum for people to contribute no matter what life situation, perceived class or varations of fame can equally have their contribution open to general debate. When I periodically move away to other forums it’s this openess that makes me return from time to time. There’s a lot that makes me sigh about MN but there’s a also a lot of communal common sense that draws me back. So listed as famous or not that’s my reason for being here.

foreverhungry2409 · 23/08/2020 16:47

Wouldn't be surprised if MeAgain Markle was on here to monitor what people say about her..

BlusteryShowers · 23/08/2020 16:53

I bet there are too. I imagine celebrities are often surrounded by yes-men so it's probably quite refreshing coming on AIBU to be told what an arsehole you've made of yourself.

There was a thread about her a few weeks ago that vanished. I wonder if she had asked for it to be taken down. I'm sure at the same time there was another thread about a celebrity that was also removed.
PiataMaiNei · 23/08/2020 16:53

Graham Linehan's been on the feminist board.

Fromadistance1 · 23/08/2020 16:54

I'd imagine the likes of Kirstie Alsopp, Amanda Holden and JK Rolling are all over this forum everyday.

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/08/2020 16:56

There was a thread on here a while ago where someone had seen Jack Monroe's instagram or twitter post about moving to a new house. The MNer had worked out which house it was and then posted a picture of her front door.
If you like her or not that is not on.

GCAcademic · 23/08/2020 16:59

J K Rowling has, at the very least, clearly spent time reading the threads in FWR.

That's awful. Jack recently posted a picture from a rental property in Edinburgh. It's a city I know very well and I could tell exactly where she was staying from the view from her window in the photo.

That's why I'm always carful about posting things online.

But why on earth would jack monroe post it in the first place? People now, over sharing EVERYTHING
FlamingoAndJohn · 23/08/2020 17:03

This wasn't even a rental or a holiday home. This was her permanent home. To then come on here and post that you know where she lives and here is her front door and what the street is is utterly wrong.

nogoodsolution · 23/08/2020 17:03

I haven't heard of a lot of the people mentioned on this thread, which suggests that they are not very famous, or that I don't have a TV (assuming they are TV people). Or both.

Mountainpika · 23/08/2020 17:04

I'm famous, of course.
I can't stop to post more as my butler is about to bring the tray with afternoon tea. I hope the silver teapot has been properly polished. There was a fingerprint on it yesterday. I suspect the chauffeur had been in the kitchen and his hands were oily.
