Head recommending wearing masks in school

rainyinscotland · 21/08/2020 18:05

So DC has been back at school full time for a bit (Scotland). Secondary school. All pupils in and no masks. The Headteacher has now written to parents that it's not possible to socially distance, so he/she is recommending that pupils and teachers wear masks. Recommending, not requiring.

YABU - the Head was wrong to do that.
YANBU - the Head was right to do that.

Still waiting for @PoppySeedSaid solution list for the 90% of teachers crammed into classrooms with 20+ kids.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/08/2020 13:24

And whilst we are waiting for the innovative solution list I think more and more teachers and staff will be wearing masks.

echt · 22/08/2020 13:25

Are you seriously gaslighting and suggesting that you are the victim?

To gaslight means to say something happened which didn't.

I didn't call you a name so it wasn't a personal attack. I attacked your argument by likening it to an Australian usage I am not allowed to repeat meaning a waste of time.

I criticised the behaviour/action, not the person.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 22/08/2020 13:26

I think this will be the case for all secondary school children who can wear masks soon

Cotton masks are far more comfortable and you get used to them

It’s better than having no masks, increased spikes and schools closing down

They have managed in other countries I’m sure we can manage here (in most circumstances)

Why do you continue with your lie when MN have removed the post for being a personal attack?

Why continue with the abuse? Biscuit

Really don't know why you are waiting? My opinion should have no power over you. And more importantly I've already said I won't be giving it.

The head is being sensible! Surely it's better to wear masks and be at school?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/08/2020 13:40

@PoppySeedSaid you are off topic again

I'm not lying. MNHQ have form for deleting when a post that does not contravene their guidelines. This is such a case.

While masks raise issues and aren't the only safeguard, they're reasonable. Before the stage 4 lockdown in Victoria, the pupils allowed in (11 and 12) had to wear masks, as did staff. Yes, there were blips and trying it on, but generally OK.

SD, not so much.

echt · 22/08/2020 13:51

Should have said SD is vital, but not so well observed.

Think meerkats huddling.

Oh look someone is being so kind and giving tins of biscuits to teachers which they can share in the staff room, pity they are not allowed in the staff room!

Think teachers would prefer intelligent ideas, rather than facetious remarks, on how to create space in already overcrowded schools to ensure social distancing can happen.Oh and no money can be spent on creating this space.

Maybe there could be a national competition for the most creative and practical solutions.

The premises and health and safety staff at our local MAT have spent pretty much the last few months discussing with SLT and teaching staff how SD can be implemented in the schools, and they haven’t come up with a solution yet.

PoppySeedSaid · 22/08/2020 14:01

@hedgehogger1 I won't quote your message because the troll hunting and personal attack breaks MN guidelines.

But since you are on the attack I'd just like to remind you that I didn't say I was "wanting staff fired".

I guess you've just taken some dislike toward me and are trying to claim I've said things that I didn't. But I'd like to apologise if I've said anything that would lead you to believe I'm suggesting a mass firing.

hedgehogger1 · 22/08/2020 14:03

You said the head should be fired if he can't maintain social distancing. Is it just that particular head you're taking such a dislike to then? As no other heads will be either?

hedgehogger1 · 22/08/2020 14:04

So in effect suggesting a mass firing. Perhaps you need to think before you type? As I say to students, stand up to bullies and if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/08/2020 14:05

I am really pleased that the majority agree with the subject of the @rainyinscotland that head can recommend masks

PoppySeedSaid · 22/08/2020 14:05

Again, I didn't suggest that anyone should be fired. If you want to, you can go back and read my previous messages and then we can have a proper conversation. Smile
StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/08/2020 14:08

And we do have a problem getting people to take up headships these days so can we can a little less of the sack/fire them nonsense. After all we have moved on from the Victorian era

hedgehogger1 · 22/08/2020 14:08

My apologies you just want them all to fall on their swords. Resign. Then I assume be replaced by the next line who will also have to resign. An equally well thought through stand point to take

Nat6999 · 22/08/2020 14:10

If schools require pupils to wear masks then they should provide them, families have had enough additional expense during lockdown, teaching at home, furloughed or having lost their jobs or families on benefits.
