Men flirting on a word game - annoying

So - I recently started playing Words with Friends and have been really annoyed with the times male players have sent me weird messages.

My profile picture isn't particularly attractive- it is a silly one

No woman on the game has messaged me except to say well done

I am so annoyed that I have deleted the app and I was really enjoying (aside from the creeps)

AIBU to want to play a game without some men being weird and creepy. I know IANBU but I am just so frustrated

YANBU, obviously, but just play with your friends, not strangers.

I don't know anyone who is playing.

Will stick to Scrabble I think

I used to get this all the fucking time. I shut off the chat feature to avoid these idiots.

It annoys me too. I had this discussion with my husband and he was stunned that I ever received messages from randoms on words with friends. He has never received a single message, whereas I constantly get messages by men. You can’t even see my face on the app, just my name! I stopped playing because it irritated me so much.

I just block the chat and then they either keep playing which is fine or they forfeit and I win.

Yes!! This happens to me all the time. They play a couple of words and then start with the messages. Fuck off! One proceeded to tell me how wealthy he was, working on an oil rig blah blah blah...

It's hard enough finding someone who'll complete a whole game without these twats making it worse.

I'm sure they follow a script. I've had two tell me they are marines posted overseas in a war zone, have lost their wife and have a teenager.
I just don't accept the chat messages now. It was bloody annoying. One kept saying he was in a bad place and needed a friend. I'm some random on the Internet and I really don't like someone trying to guilt trip me. He left the game. I really should have reported him.

Got that with Scrabble Go all the time! They were mostly American men for some reason. And they sometimes abandoned the game if you said you just wanted to play scrabble. Changed my name and profile in the end to gender neutral. Then it stopped.

You have to think of the whole of the internet as a repulsive, free meat market bar. From the 1970s. And no bouncers. 90 men to every 10 women. Porn everywhere. Basically a cesspit.

I just ignore them and tend not to accept usernames with 123643 following their names! Or I resign the game if they start. They're like bots

I just don't understand why they bother. I'm there to play the game not chat to weirdos. They do totally follow a scrip - single male, posted overseas, dead wife and raising a child alone. I mean is this game killing off all these wives?!

A friend of mine met and shagged a bloke she met on WWF. I thought it was basically a dating app, tbh.

They're scammers after money.

I play this game and get the same thing. They're crap at the game and try to initiate lame chat conversations. I just ignore them and keep playing my turn until they leave the game. I show my DH and say 'this game won't last long' and they don't. I get a bit satisfied when they bugger off. I won't quit the game as that will affect my stats. I'm a saddo

I have lots of strangers who I play repeatedly, mostly women mind. Not all the men are like that, but only women initiate another game if you beat them.

Just play games with women, don't let the weirdos push you out.

I generally ignore and they ALWAYS resign the game. I once wrote, "You know, women don't like this kind of thing!" but then I resigned, so I don't think he got the message. Like previous posters, not one woman has ever commented.

I get this, and my profile picture is one of The Flumps (kid's TV series from the 70s). I only play against people I know in real life, apart from one nice retired American man who never inappropriately comments or makes me feel uncomfortable. I have also never had a message from a woman that I don't know. The men always start with "Hey"....

I strung one along for days, told him I was extremely wealthy but lonely and when could I come and visit and get married? When I didn’t get an immediate answer I played merry hell, told him he was just using me and I was so disappointed, I thought we had a future etc. He resigned 😀
Now I just ask if they are a scammer...they usually resign, I don’t see why I should because it affects my standing.

I have changed my username to a neutral one now and my profile pic is always a landscape to head off the annoying men. Seems to be working so far.

I have once had a message from a woman, asking where the landscape picture was. I had played her continuously for months by that stage though, we were nicely matched. We had a nice chat about holidays and our respective children. No creepiness!

Now I'm also going to challenge Mrs Gloss... although my normal rule is to only challenge people with cats in their profile pictures
