'chester freezer'

I'm not defending chester draws, but at least I can understand how it happened.

I've just seen someone talk about their 'chester freezer' on Facebook. There's no excuse.

Love this thread!😀

@winniestone37

The best bit is the OP’s insinuation and everyone else’s mirth and scorn, is that they seem to believe it’s somehow a reflection of intelligence and wisdom. The irony is of course even the smallest amount of intelligence and wisdom means you’ll know that the place that learns these words in your brain is the same place that knows how to take a poo. Ie pretty ducking basic. You’re not more intelligent than other people you’re just nastier, with a cumbersome ego and a tricky insecurity complex. Your judgements show a very limited underdog language and it’s history. Your judgements merely illustrate you’re a bit of a dick. Put that in your Chester freezer and suck on it 😘
Do you feel the same about people who point out errors in maths?

Has corvid been mentioned?

I've just seen it on another thread.

Your for your are rather than you're! See it a lot.
Efnic instead of ethnic

@unchienandalusia

Colleague typed toot sweet to a client in an email. She was an Cambridge grad ( English!!).
Surely it would have been more embarrassing if she was a French grad. There's no particular reason why an English grad should know how to spell a French phrase.
CoralFish · 17/08/2020 09:30

Wallah is arabic and it beautifully fits into that sentence 😂😂😂
"You walk into the living room and... I promise by god (as in not lying)! A beautiful inglenook fireplace"

The first time I saw 'wallah' in this context I genuinely thought 'wallahi' had made it into colloquial English usage along with shuf (shufty) and bint. Took me years to realise what it actually was.

Has corvid been mentioned?

To be fair, my spellchecker kept autocorrecting for a while...

CatRamsey · 17/08/2020 09:40

My English teacher used to call a thesaurus a thea-saurus.

Sign outside a restaurant in Loughborough. Only 2 people aloud in at any time.

forgetthehousework · 17/08/2020 09:50

Even as I write this my DH is watching a YouTube video from 'Steves World TV' channel - and the sign behind him is 'Steves Wolrd TV'.

forgetthehousework · 17/08/2020 09:58

@MrsKoala

If she decorated it with "boar Balls" that would be a whole new look for Christmas

It sounds like something from one of those history of Tudor Christmas programmes where Giles Coren and Sue Perkins hilariously make decorations using the offcuts and giblets.

@Max14165

I belong to a Facebook group called illiterate Britain which is full of misspelled adverts/ Facebook posts / indiscriminate use of the phrase Chester draws etc ... it can be very irreverent (and occasionally mean) but also very funny if you are a grammar nerd like me! ( she says going back over her post to check her own spelling and punctuation !!!)
Well, that group will distract me for a week!!! 😂
lifeafter50 · 17/08/2020 10:01

My pet hate is 'I was sat', rather than 'sitting'.
See it a lot on - even from otherwise articulate people 🙁

Same here!😀

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 17/08/2020 10:36

"Off his own back" instead of "off his own bat" annoys me intensely.

Yes. My surprise is that it was today.

retirementrocks · 17/08/2020 10:44

Duh! I meant your instead of you're for you are not your are!
anyway, next favourite pet hate is otherwise articulate folk who start words beginning with Th with F instead. I find myself counting the number of times they say it instead of listening to the content of the conversation. Might be a speech problem but most times words that have a th in the middle are no problem.

BlooperReel · 17/08/2020 10:52

I know someone who pronounces screen as 'scream'....I want to throttle them.

ForeverAlone1987 · 17/08/2020 10:54

When i was younger (age 5) i always used to hear 'pea's process' on the news, and up until i was in my late 20's (now 33), i came to realise that it was 'peace process' and had absolutely nothing to do with peas the vegetable 😂

MikeUniformMike · 17/08/2020 11:03

How about guerillas?

If you were in Scotland you might have thought it was about sandwiches...

When I was in primary school I told my parents the school was off because the teachers were having some kind of intercourse. 🙈

It's what it says about our educational system that bothers me, humour apart.
