Been diagnosed 12 months. Off the gluten since then.
I want a beer. Shall I risk it? What’s the worst that can happen? 😬

Fuck it, you only live once.

Bagel88 · 14/08/2020 22:12

Why not have a gluten free beer?

Your villi (sp) probably won't like gluten..

MeMyselfAye · 14/08/2020 22:13

Don’t do it
I’m gluten intolerant, not coeliac and regular beer causes me so much painabd bloating. You can get decent gluten free beers now too

SnackSizeRaisin · 14/08/2020 22:13

You can get gluten free beer

baublegirl353 · 14/08/2020 22:13

Loads of nice gluten free beers out there. Or (anecdotally) corona is vv low gluten

Wingingitsince2018 · 14/08/2020 22:13

Brewdog vagabond is great and I had some aldi gluten free beers the other day that were really good.

I realise this is not helpful if the need is urgent!

chinateapot · 14/08/2020 22:13

Have a gluten free one.

I have coeliac disease, diagnosed about 20 years ago now. Have accidentally eaten gluten a handful of times and it makes me throw up every time. I wouldn’t.

SuperCaliFragalistic · 14/08/2020 22:15

Get some wheat free beer? Its perfectly drinkable. You might not have a very bad reaction but the damage to your gut is real. And if the reaction wasn't bad you'd be tempted to do it again and again. So not doing it is probably best.

My daughter has coeliac disease but she's only 9 so I control her diet more or less. I can totally understand that you would want to consider taking the risk but my advice would obviously be don't because that's what I would hope people would say to my DD if she asked a similar question.

Penguin007 · 14/08/2020 22:15

You will cause yourself damage which will take weeks to heal. Even if you feel fine. I'm presuming you know about the risks to long-term health too. I am coeliac too, and the GF beers are fine.

Splodgetastic · 14/08/2020 22:17

Stupid question, but does rice contain gluten? If not,
Beer made with rice. Think Americsn Budweiser might be made from this.

LunaNorth · 14/08/2020 22:18

GF Peroni is fab.

NewPapaGuinea · 14/08/2020 22:18

It’ll be like when craving maccy d’s and then regretting it. Gluten free beer is your friend.

BitchTitties · 14/08/2020 22:18

I know, I know 😞

I’d love to have a gluten free beer but literally the only beer we have in is coors light, shops are closed... I’m so tempted, I’ve been saying no for so long!

stitchandbitch101 · 14/08/2020 22:19

Don't. I did it with a krispy kreme once and was so poorly I needed fluids so had a stay overnight in hospital. Believe me it was not worth it Sad

stopgap · 14/08/2020 22:19

No way. I’m celiac and have accidentally been “gluten-d” 3-4 times over the last eight years, which involves acute stomach pain, overall body aches and sometimes diarrhea. It’s just not worth it.

gobbynorthernbird · 14/08/2020 22:20

Oh god definitely don't for coors light.

Splodgetastic · 14/08/2020 22:21

Ignore my comment. The malt contains gluten. Even if the rice doesn't. I had a GF beer but was low alcohol too.

BitchTitties · 14/08/2020 22:25

sigh I know you’re all right 😞 jeez, this is boring. I’m stocking up on vodka tomorrow! 😆

RJnomore1 · 14/08/2020 22:27

Stick up on gluten free beer too!

BitchTitties · 14/08/2020 22:31

Good idea! I’ve never tried it before as it’s so expensive for what you get... but sod it, I think I’ll get some in for moments like this!

OP posts:
SilentStorm · 14/08/2020 22:35

I'm not even coeliac but can't drink beer for some reason just to the absolutely ridiculous bloating - I look about 8 months pregnant for days afterwards! So don't drink it now because of this. But it used to be my main alcoholic beverage so it's hard. I understand the craving, especially on a hot summers evening.

goatley · 14/08/2020 22:38

I had a gluten free San Miguel in a bar the other night. It was okay.

I didn't realise until I looked more closely at the label.

CMOTDibbler · 14/08/2020 22:39

The skinny lager is GF, and £14 for 12 so not horribly expensive. For some reason, beer is terrible for reactions for me so it's not worth it

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/08/2020 22:42

coors light

Lol. No. Not worth it😂

BitchTitties · 14/08/2020 22:44

😂 I’m guessing coors light isn’t great on the gluten front then? Or is it just generally shit?
It’s the only one my OH will drink.... not sure I’ve tried it before tbh 🤔
