Been diagnosed 12 months. Off the gluten since then.
I want a beer. Shall I risk it? What’s the worst that can happen? 😬

Loads of gluten free beer these days

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 14/08/2020 22:51

Don't do it, get a GF beer. It's not worth being ill over. I've been GF now since 2017 and if I get gluten now I get a worse reaction than before diagnosis.
Today I lusted over bread at work, all the lovely bread. I had a warbutons sandwich thin, actually tasted nice, but it wasn't lovely bread.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 14/08/2020 22:52

Also Coors light is like gnats piss, don't bother.

ktp100 · 14/08/2020 22:56

100% NOOOOOOOOO!!!

All this 'you only live once' shit is ridiculous and ignorant.

That beer could cause permanent damage, FFS!!

Can you not just hit the gin?

MargotMoon · 14/08/2020 22:59

@NewPapaGuinea

It’ll be like when craving maccy d’s and then regretting it. Gluten free beer is your friend.

I thought the burger buns at McDonald's were gluten free?

MrsJemimaDuck · 14/08/2020 23:00

Coors lite is awful and doesn’t taste like beer, at all really. I’ve heard Corona is fine and also Budweiser (rice), and I’m sure there are more. But really, one slip may make you very, very ill. Not worth it...

Apolloanddaphne · 14/08/2020 23:03

My DH was served gluten free Peroni recently. It was nice

Thisisnotataste · 14/08/2020 23:03

Don't. Especially for a Coors light Envy not envy
Loads of decent gluten free beers. Yes they cost more but vs permanent damage to your gut.... worth it.
@MargotMoon only chips, hash browns and some salads are GF at McD. Definitely not buns.

nobeer · 14/08/2020 23:09

Your DH has very poor taste in beer Grin

pointythings · 14/08/2020 23:11

Coors light is awful stuff. Not worth it even if you aren't coeliac.

MargotMoon · 14/08/2020 23:17

Cheers! I remember when I was a kid a friend got diagnosed with Coeliac which was the first time I'd heard of it and he was really pleased that he could still have a burger at McDonald's, I thought it must still be the case, that's pretty rubbish if it isn't!
RJnomore1 · 14/08/2020 23:23

Coors light is vile and no self respecting beer drinker would touch it it’s not worth the damage.

MissSmiley · 14/08/2020 23:29

GF Peroni is exactly like the real thing, I was only diagnosed in 2012 and I can remember but oh if I had a crumb or a sip now I'd be seriously illl, try it you'll only do it once I promise you

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/08/2020 23:38

I am really enjoying that Coors light bashing😂 Add the US Budweiser to itGrin

MitziK · 14/08/2020 23:44

@BitchTitties

😂 I’m guessing coors light isn’t great on the gluten front then? Or is it just generally shit? It’s the only one my OH will drink.... not sure I’ve tried it before tbh 🤔
That's handy. It means you'll be able to keep them chilling in the fridge unmolested, rather than looking forward to one after a hellish day at work, only to find that the bastard has drunk them 'because you didn't seem to want them'.

glares at DP

PickAChew · 14/08/2020 23:45

There are gluten free beers. Some are rice based.

PickAChew · 14/08/2020 23:50

Or just stick to voddy and coke.

Veterinari · 14/08/2020 23:59

Aldi have gluten free beer four packs st the moment. Pretty cheap

Pythonesque · 15/08/2020 00:04

I was just going to mention I'd seen some in Aldi recently too. Not that I have any wish to try it - the smell of beer has always put me off big time. (react to yeast as well as coeliac)

Veterinari · 15/08/2020 00:15

@MellowBird85

Fuck it, you only live once.
I assume you are not a coeliac...
BitchTitties · 15/08/2020 00:47

😂😂 I won’t mention the coors bashing to DH! 😬 he’s not much of a drinker and it’s the only one that doesn’t give him a headache so he makes do.

You will all be incredibly proud of me... I took your advice and didn’t give in. Deep down I knew it was a ridiculous idea. Just feeling so fed up of all the things I can’t have and had a weak moment. I’m craving a Chinese so bad! Will someone please eat one for me and tell me how delicious/disgusting it was? 😬

CrepuscularCritter · 15/08/2020 00:49

Also coeliac here, and there are loads of GF beers to stock up on for nights like tonight. Vagabond maybe? Or else a real cider...the kind that tastes as though it had a proper relationship with an apple.

BitchTitties · 15/08/2020 01:05

I know there are gf beers. But that doesn’t help me on an evening like tonight where all I had was regular beer and the shops were closed

Penguin007 · 15/08/2020 07:10

I'm not sure of the point you are making. It's your health, and your choice. There are short-term and long-term implications of not sticking rigourously to a GF diet.

sosickofarseholes · 15/08/2020 07:15

Saucery and fantasma from magic rock are both gluten free I think, they are amazing. We bought them for our coeliac friend and Drink them too now
